On the one hand, the longevity of games this generation has greatly benefited from the advent of downloadable content but on the other hand, some believe it gives developers an excuse to release a less-than-complete title.
Well, Kazunori Yamauchi wants to make one thing abundantly clear: when Gran Turismo 5 launches, it will not be gimped or lacking in any way. You won't want to wait a few months so Polyphony can add all sorts of features that should've been included on the disc. You won't sift through the vast menus of the game and say to yourself, "man, there just isn't enough here." As summarized at GTPlanet , Yamauchi encouraged racing fans everywhere during his recent interview with the Official UK PlayStation Magazine:
"Let me be clear on this. There is a massive amount of content in this game, I don’t think there are many teams that put as much into a game as we can. The launch of the game isn’t a start, we are releasing a full game. Everything we want to put into the game is on the disc when it ships. Having said that, we do have a sizeable online team that will look after it once it’s launched."
Furthermore, it seems the weather systems involved in the game are also complete but Polyphony appears to be toying with the idea of including it all in the game. As Yamauchi said, "the choice is about whether it will improve the experience." Basically, if they're not convinced of the quality of this system, they're not going to put it in. Still, night racing will definitely return so don't worry about that.
There's little doubt that Gran Turismo 5 will be one of the most impressive titles of the generation and we certainly applaud Yamauchi's "full game" comment. And this doesn't mean DLC is out of the realm of possibility; it simply means we won't regret our initial $60 investment.
Related Game(s): Gran Turismo 5
LOL…well I was never worried, but I for sure won't worry now. I just wish it were shipping earlier…
Wow, this makes me love PD and Kaz that much more. With all the DLC stuff this gen, this is definitely the last thing I want to hear; A developer putting as many things possible in their game, on the initial release without any thought of saving their work later for future DLC and extra cash to rip off customers.
Thank you Kaz and PD, not that I had any doubt in the first place. Just good to hear it.

Yeah Yamauchi we know, just make sure you release it world wide within one week of the Japan release.
Thanks Master Yamauchi and PD I cant wait to play your last creation!!!
What do you mean last?
think he meant latest.
latest lol! my English…. haha!
Well there better not be nay DLC, They have been in development for like 5 f*cking years now!
I have a feeling that their team went back to the drawing board to enhance finished items because technology and expectations have changed since they first started on this. I have heard great things about Forza on the xbox. And we have seen great strides over the couple of years alone for ps3 games.
are you seriously gonna mention Forza…
COD6 easily the fastest selling game of this year had plans for DLC even before it was released, i mean like 6 months before. It shows that they are just trying to wash out your wallet.
WHAT!!! THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF DLC!!!! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE DISC!!!!
And enough of that. But, is there any doubt in anyone's mind that some ass cracker somewhere is going to freak out like that?
Anyway, I can't wait for this game to release. Well, I can wait and will have to but I am stoked for its eventual release. I haven't been able to force a Forza 3 purchase yet as I have been too caught up with all the other titles that are releasing right now, and as soon as I can track down a copy of the GoW Collection I will be playing another one, but right now I am sitting on Demon's Souls, NHL10, Dragon Age, and ACII… "It'sa me, Mario"…Classic
lol @ ass cracker. I think the only asscrackers upset about anything GT5 will be non-ps3 owners.
Exactly as World says
ps fans aren't morons.
GT and MGS are the only franchises that can claim to LITEARALLY own the ps brand
Those two franchises are probably the biggest reasons other than Final Fantasy why the Playstation brand is still around
That said, I can't wait to get my hands on this
as long as they don't start selling vehicles on the PSN at $2 a pop I'm all for DLC after it releases

I am a little dissapointed by the possible occlusion of weather effects, tbh. But otherwise, still totally going crazy waiting for this game, heh. GT fanatic since '98.
I havent bought a GT game since the 1st one. I tend to go more for Motorstorm type of racers. But this does look good.

forza 3 should take notes
I can't figure out what your avatar is…
something to do with xbox live
@ Arvis, at the top it says "Support" and gives you some options below.
– Connect to Xbox LIVE
– Family Settings
– Contact Support
– Check Repair Status (highlighted)
– License Transfer
I miss the days when a game came out and what was there is what you got, none of this stupid DLC, charging you money to add something to a game you already bought. Excluding those who don't buy DLC, from thier friends that have. Ill tell you 1 thing, if IW does what treyarch did with [email protected] where they still took you to the pre game lobby of a map you don't have just to get you pissed off enough so you will buy it then my mw2 is going back.
Pd better release a full game after the patience their fans have shown. Pd should go the way of Ubisoft with their "Uplay" rewards where winners of online events have tangible rewards in the form of DLC which can be included in the game. Just a thought, what do you guys think?
kaz should win an award for being born. damn we are lucky he has created something that drives the passion within us.
Lol, this made me chuckle. I agree!
this game will rape your soul, in a most excellent way
that being said, there are always new cars in development, but in his omnipotence, yamauchi-san has foreseen this, and they're probably in there too.
CANT WAIT FOR GT5!
Downloadable content is never a good thing because in the end its nothing but a money-making scheme meant to overall increase the base price of a game. Essentially if you paid $60 for a game then pay $5-15 for dlc then in reality you are paying $65-75 for game.

This demonstrate to me that PD care more about building a quality product rather than stuffing the game with things that might be non-essentials, in other words gimmicks.
pffft, GT5 is for kiddies.
I heard that Forzas new update will include wear and tear on the vehicles, to the point where you can no longer drive them. You'll have to download one tire at a time, brakes, oil and more. All for a modest fee, of course. Microsoft's ultimate gaming business-model..
No matter how much noise about how good their game is, the makers of F3 are making, GT5 will leave F3 in it's smoke cloud. Can't wait!
I beg to differ with regards to downloadable content. It's a great idea when not abused by the developers. If you know you're launching an unfinished title and want to charge me for levels and maps that should have been included, then I have a problem with that. The "Uplay" alternative to paid DLC is a great idea where game points are used instead of real world money. Super Street Fighter 4 is already rubbing me the wrong way as I felt that it could have been DLC to the original SF4 despite what Capcom tells us.
they should make this game as complete as possible (if only they had a 400gb. Blu-ray disc!), but they shouldn't rule out the DLC option. New and better cars will always be coming out, including some that may not be included when GT5 finally releases, and eventually they will have to release some DLC to stay up-to-date. I would rather have them release DLC for a cool new car instead of making a GT6 just so they can include it. That would be like Sony making another playstation every time that a firmware update became available. Both the developer and the consumer save money when the developer releases DLC instead of a whole new game.
Will the full game be on 3 bluray disks? Or just 1?
"Furthermore, it seems the weather systems involved in the game are also complete but Polyphony appears to be toying with the idea of including it all in the game."
I guess I don't understand this statement, they are toying with the idea of putting weather systems into the game? Shouldn't they be there anyway if they are complete? Just make it an option you can turn on and off or something.
i really hope a weather system is included
i love a challenge of hardcore simulation in changing weather conditions. Combine that with a great damage model and some good online functionality and this game will not be leaving my drive for a Loooooooong time.
oh and i hope it has a really good replay theatre so i can save my crazy racing vids.
cuz if the online races include all this stuff damn its gonna b some pretty eye candy to go back and look at
This is one developer I will respect 100%.
There's 70+ tracks and 1000+ cars, what else is there to add?
best news ever!!
what a weird feeling… its gonna happen, they will release it.

noshownogo, can a pay to play scheme be any good if a developer aren't abusing it?
The point I'm making is that like microtransactions, downloadale content is nothing but a nicely dressed-up scam in disguise to pipe more money out of you and its shame people like you actually support things like this.
Super Street Fighter 4 is already rubbing me the wrong way as I felt that it could have been DLC to the original SF4 despite what Capcom tells us.
What Capcom is doing with SS4 seem very fair, though I do wish Capcom was doing a arcade release. Ontop that the game should've been $30 instead of $40.
Yamauchi-san! Thank you for going for perfection with this masterpiece!
Seriously can't wait to get my hands on this beauty. This is THE racing game I've been waiting for this generation. As much as I love Motorstorm, GT is the real deal.
I hope they do add the weather….
Ideally racing events are rarely, if ever held in bad weather conditions (unless it's rally or Nascar or some stock cars). But for most Pro racing leagues it's almost always clear day/night.
But it wouldn't hurt to add weather for the Arcade mode of rhe game.
I just hope they do add time of day (morning, day, afternoon, evening, night)
By the way, that's the power of blu-ray right there

so out the box u get 900+ cars?
I can't say anything but:
And the other new bit of info about the 'Weather System' being done makes me giddy inside =]
I hope they include it. PD are games developers that know a lot more than use about game balancing so we gotta' trust them on adding weather or not.
PS3 firmware 3.1 and PSP firmware 6.2 are up.
i hope they have the license tests in there like the old ps1 titles had they were the best part.
hopefully its like NFS shift, hard but forgiving.
the only thing i hated about shift was i noticed the racing line was off.
i take a corner at green and i spin out, i take a corner at yellow im fine.
green is to fast but yellow is ok.
anyway besides the racing line it was a very enjoyable game i just hope the price of racing wheels go down.
i really want to get one, but the cheapest one i can find is like 300 bucks.
no way in hell am i paying 300 bucks just for a racing wheel.
Every main GT console game will have license test =]
Go over to Amazon and do a search for "PlayStation 3 Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel". It's $100.
This dude reminds me of Kojima
If a game's price is proportional to the content inside the game, then PS3's exclusives (MGS4, Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2) prices are triple the normal amount. But from what I'm hearing of GT5, it looks to be surpassing that amount multiple times.
Seriously, PS3 games are the best bargain deals considering their content is a higher quality and quantity than their competition.
Now I hope PD, releases GT6 within 3 years because it would feel so wasted to have a very awesome and definitive racing game treated like another AAA racing title (just like Forza).
Sounds good – GT4 was a huge game, and I'm hoping GT5 will put it to shame 🙂 I'd be in favor of DLC though. As long as we get a huge number of cars and tracks in the original game, I wouldn't have any problem with being able to download extra ones, depending on your tastes.
As far as weather, I think it would be awesome to have it snowing in the snow races, and raining in the wet races. And in regular races, maybe have it be cloudy one time, sunny the next; noon one time, a beautiful sunset on the horizon next time. I wouldn't want changing conditions in regular races though. You finish in 4th, you try again, hoping to do better – then it starts raining and track conditions change drastically – that would suck!
I never found myself worried over GT5. This game has been on the top of my list ever since I bought a PS3.
I also don't care how long it takes for the game to come out either, for I know that I will be in for racing experience like no other!!
