We all know about Trophies and Achievements but Ubisoft has decided to embrace the concept and take it one step further.
They've lifted the lid on their brand new Uplay Rewards Program , which gives you a lot more incentive to tackle some of the more difficult tasks in any given game. The first two titles to support this rewards program will be the freshly released Assassin's Creed II and the upcoming Splinter Cell: Conviction , so get ready to buckle down and accept the challenges! If you are successful, you will receive a certain number of points that you can redeem for all sorts of cool stuff; see, you can actually go shopping with those points. Granted, it's all virtual stuff – no saving up your points for a free PlayStation 3, or something – but it's still pretty damn cool. You can redeem your accumulated points for prizes like exclusive maps, character outfits, themes, wallpapers, special content, and even extra usable items. For instance, in the promotional video at the official site (follow the previous link), you will see Throwing Knives for ACII. You can nab 'em for 20 "U" points and really, this is only the beginning and the possibilities are almost limitless. Of course, this is restricted to Ubisoft titles but don't be surprised to see similar programs from other publishers if this proves to be successful. And we think it will be…
Trophies and Achievements are neat and all but all you really get is a little symbol on your machine. This? Well, it's a whole new approach, and we like it. By the way, in case you're all wondering, I am currently playing ACII so be on the lookout for the in-depth review later on Thursday.
Nice to finally get some "tangible" for simply playing the game.
or at least "digible"
Lol World!
Q!
"i am home"
Why God did you beat me to that? I've been screaming this the whole time. Glad I have something to work for now. Trophies just didn't give me enough motivation to keep replaying a game, but this will do nicely though. Now if it will only catch on.
Seems pretty cool, gives players an excuse to buy a game from a certain developer over another.
Now if only the concept of the Trophy system was like this in the first place, then I'd actually care as much as others do to gain Trophies within a game.
Interesting, but when we used to do this it would just be an unlockable on the disc.
Another feature, and this time, all games should have, actual rewards for achieving something and trophies have always been superficial to me.
Too-Freakin'-Cool! Gettin' my Assassin's Creed II this week!
P.S. Off-topic- A BIG "Thank You" out to Pandemic for the good times you created…
Sweet. Leave it to Ubisoft (my favorite developer) to innovate! I think this is a spectacular idea and I really hope it takes off!
<3 U Ubisoft!
Leave exclusive maps out of it, unless their single player maps. What good will the extra mp maps be when 5 people have them. I guess this is better than playing for an mp map that no one plays, i.e. Killzone 2, Resistance 2.
that reward system is similar to what Uncharted 2 uses
So if I like one game better than another, I can use the points from the crap game to buy added content and digital goodness for the game I like? That sounds pretty damn good.
dam i wish you could use them to buy games.
this plus a psp has sent me totally completley broke.
i knew i shouldent of gone for that holiday to Melbourne.
who would of thought a 2 day vacation could of cost so much?
What world said.
sounds like Precoursor orbs in J&D
The extra ACII map looks great. I'm all signed up and ready to get it. Now how do I get these points?
I keep waiting for Sony to offer something for the trophy work folks do.
Getting extras in say Home with your trophies would be a good idea. It might even bring more interest into Home if your Platinum on Uncharted 2 did more then unlock a MP costume.
There may be others, but my bad ass red sunglasses in Home came from my "trophy work" in SingStar.
Nice. I wasn't aware that trophies for goods was already being used.
There are plenty of examples of game-to-Home rewards (e.g., the Cole costume for playing the inFAMOUS demo or the Batcave), but it is still the exception rather than the rule.
They definitely need to integrate Trophies better with Home. How about a bronze for completing each mini-game?
