Somebody should probably tell these guys that if they want it to sound legitimate, they should try denying rather than issuing these "no comment" statements. For some people, that's as good as a confirmation, ya know.
Bioware was perfectly willing to bring Dragon Age: Origins to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and we're certain EA wanted it that way. Giant publishers like EA and Activision simply don't do platform exclusives; it eliminates far too much in the way of earning potential. Therefore, as soon as EA acquired Bioware, everyone simply assumed that Mass Effect 2 would be headed to the PS3 as well. However, they have only announced the hotly anticipated role-playing sequel for the Xbox 360 and PC, which is why PS3 owners have been a little miffed. Furthermore, journalists keep asking Bioware and EA if they ever plan to release a PS3 version and they never just say, "no, there won't be a PS3 version." They just make statements like the one Bioware co-founder Ray Muzyka gave to GTTV :
"Always lots of rumors, but we’ve announced basically it’s coming to Xbox 360 and PC, and thats all we’re talking about."
Bioware's Greg Zeschuck chimed in with a "we're not saying anything" comment, thereby allowing anyone with any ability to read between the lines to smile at their computer screens. Really, this type of thing is almost as good as a confirmation in the world of gaming reporting, but of course, we're not making any unofficial announcement. The only downside is that it appears a PS3 version, if it were to exist, wouldn't arrive at the same time as the 360 and PC versions. But we'll have to wait and see.
Maybe they are holding out on the ps3 version and will release both as a special package. Now THAT would rock. 🙂
End of Line.
"no comment" means m$ better pony up the cash or they'll release it on ps3. but they can't just release a second one without us playin the first.
It's more likely that Microsoft has a pre-existing contract with them and EA is trying to do away with it.
The first Mass Effect was fantastic. This is the only 360 series that I actually WANT on the PS3.

Me too.
Get it for PC?
I tried that, stupid thing wouldn't run. I think I needed to spend half a mil on a new graphics card or something.
You can buy the graphx card I use for less than 120$, and I can pretty much play Crysis on Max Settings with it, tho tech it's not all the graphx card powering the game and such. So no, it doesn't cost half a mil.
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT is what I have, btw.

mm, rather get two PS3 games.
with the money you spend on a new graphics card, you could've spent on an Xbox during the Walmart promotion for $100 bucks back. After you get bored of the game, throw the console in the garbage.
I like that plan. 🙂

its not all about your video card your CPU comes into line with it too.
i can run crysis at max settings with my I7 and my 9800GTX+, but change the CPU to a quad core and it starts to lag big time.
theres no point buying a new video card if your CPU is really old.
9800GTX+ has a much higher clock speed and its more or less the same price it only cost me 300 bucks.
and it can play anything even crysis at maximum settings with full 8X AA at 1080P.
and theres more availability to over clock the card, i have not done that because well i dont need to.
but increasing the voltage can give you a big advantage.
anything over a 9800GTX+ now is overkill, well till crysis 2 or RAGE is out but there not out for at least 1 more year 🙁
I have to wonder if we're looking at a situation similar to 2k games' Bioshock. Could they release the first and maybe the second soon after? I've never played Mass Effect because the RROD has never been something I'd gamble on I like reliable consoles, but I heard it was a good game.
RRoD hasn't been a problem for some time now… don't use lame excuses like that to not go multi-platform in your home
Mass Effect is still one of my all time favourites and I just have to have the sequel. Even if they do release it on the PS3 I will be buying the 360 version because it takes into account my ME1 game save.
I don't want to go through ME1 from scratch on the PS3 (all 55 hours of it!) before I unwrap ME2.
This is exactly the way BioWare handled it when people asked about a PC version following the launch of the first Mass Effect. They said the same things about a PC version, and six months later it was on store shelves. I expect that by June we should hear something about a PS3 version (if not sooner, and be on shelves by mid year), I believe Microsoft paid for timed exclusivity.
And you can play the 2nd without the first. In fact, they have to plan on that because some people will by 2 without playing 1. Just like in KOTOR 2 there will likely be some sort of question/answer bit to determine where the story went for you. And they've already said your stats will not carry over, Shepard gets set back to level one through an undisclosed plot device.

Well, I never said you can't play ME2 without playing through the first but you will lose the story flow benefit.
the Bioware/Microsoft deal goes back to the fact that Microsoft has console publishing rights to Mass Effect. They likely modified the deal when EA bought Bioware for exclusive rights to the trilogy… remember peeps that Microsoft was going to be publishing the whole trilogy originally.
I see this as another game thats going to be rushed for 360 exclusivity and then released for the ps3 with more features/additions. maybe they'll even include mass effect 1 on the same bluray.
A while ago I was hoping for a simultaneous release, but I dont think its going to happen with ME2 coming out in Jan. Im hoping it comes out for PS3 sooner than a year later, though, otherwise I might break down and get the PC version.
I think Microsofts publishing rights has something to do with the delayed PS3 release, rather than timed exclusivity or whatever. Maybe Bioware is letting the contract run out before they can say anything official about the PS3 one.
If and when Mass Effect comes to the PS3, I'll buy it.
Until then, whatever.
Yet another title where I'll be picking up the PC version.
As some of you mentioned, it would be a good idea and a nice treat for PS3 owners to release ME1 and ME2 on one blu-ray (God knows it could be easily done) but I wonder if they would be that kind.
Something tells me if they release the first one at all, it will be a separate release in hopes of making some decent sales like they did with Bioshock. Hope I'm wrong though I'd like to try the game. Oh yeah, and it's definitely coming, that's about the most thinly veiled confirmation I've seen.
Even though I really wasn't impressed with the first one this would be great for the playstation community in general.. the more games the better
It'll happen – there were a few 360 exclusives from Ubisoft that went this way early in the PS3's life, and it was the same with Square Enix's RPGs, and I'd put good money on it being the same with Splinter Cell:Conviction. It's all good, it's not as if we won't have FFXIII, WKC and a bunch of games in other genres to play while we wait ;).
It is sounding like a not in the immediate future but never say never stance to me.
Would make perfect sense to release a PS3 version, with a staggered release of ME1 then ME2.
its going to happen.
M$s cash book is probably whats holding it up now, 50 bucks says ME2 will release exclusive to the 360 and PC than they will announce ME1 and ME2 on one disk for the ps3 at the price of 1.
I think they really wants to make it happen.
there must be some kind of deal with MS,
when they say "thats all we're talking about." at the end of the quote, i think they mean thats all they have talked about, and they havnt discussed a possible ps3 release.
now trust me im as optimistic as the next person, and want the game badly for my ps3. but talking about it being on the pc and 360 seems to mean inside the developers workplace to me!

Really……this is EA publishing it, it's not like EA to not publish a game to all console.
Not true. They've made PC games that were never brought to consoles. And vice-versa.
I think he means console exclusive, and a PC is not a console.
All EA games are multiplatform while some are PC exclusive, in terms of console there's no console exclusive.
No they're not. Might want to research that some more 🙂 A lot of the PC stuff is exclusive though I agree.

If you're so convinced that you are right and we are all wrong, perhaps you could…I don't know, maybe actually provide evidence? Name EA games that were console exclusive, and a PC is NOT a console.
Most of these may be old but they were, and are, still exclusive to their original console release. I'm not going to list them all since there's too many to list.
007 Racing (PS)
Aquatic Games (Genesis)
Beetle Adventure Racing (N64)
Blades of Vengeance (Genesis)
Boom Blox (Wii)
Escape from Monster Manor (3DO)
F-22 Interceptor (Genesis)
FIFA Soccer 64 (N64)
Kessen (PS2)
Medal of Honor (PS)
Medal of Honor Underground (PS)
Mutant League Football (Genesis)
Mutant League Hockey (Genesis)
NASCAR Kart Racing (Wii)
NCAA Football 2002 (PS2)
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (Xbox)
Rumble Racing (PS2)
Spore: Creatures (DS)
SSX (PS2)
We Love Katamari (PS2)
Among many others.
Mass Effect was a Microsoft published game first anyway… they would have published all three if EA had not swipped the company up so I expect there is a exclusive console deal
Still not true. They've made some console games for certain consoles and not others. One of the Oddworld games comes to mind. Though I think I read somewhere that PSN and Steam are getting it before the end of the year. And most of the Medal of Honor games were on a Sony system and/or PC. And a PC is a console. It's just not classified as a video game console since it's designed to be used for other purposes as well.
PC is NOT a console. Nor is any handheld. Heck, video game consoles barely qualify.
"Console" =/= "system" or "platform".
Check the dictionary.

A video game console is an interactive entertainment computer or modified computer system that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.) to display a video game. The term "video game console" is used to distinguish a machine designed for consumers to buy and use solely for playing video games from a personal computer, which has many other functions, or arcade machines, which are designed for businesses that buy them and then charge others to play.
"Console" =/= "system" or "platform"
Last I checked the PC is a system. Even the dictionary says that. But you would've seen that if you read it 😉

The PC is a general purpose device not a gaming platform… most of our current gaming platforms can also do stuff none game related, but they are generally very specific and designed in a meaningful way towards gaming.
