Gyllenhaal On Prince Of Persia Movie: “Real Classic Story”

We all have our reservations when it comes to films based on video games, and for damn good reason. But the more we see and hear about Jerry Bruckheimer's adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time , the more convinced we are that it'll be well worth the price of admission.

Early trailers have been promising and now, star Jake Gyllenhaal speaks out about the movie's script, and why it's so "intriguing" for him. During an interview with Moviefone UK , Gyllenhaal and costar Gemma Arterton talk about the process of making this epic blockbuster. With 14 different stages and 120 people working around the clock to make everything just right, "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is shaping up quite nicely. Toss in one of our favorite actors – Ben Kingsley – and you've got one hell of a cast to go along with what Gyllenhaal says is a great story:

"It wasn't like your normal video game adaptation. It was this massive epic that they had in the works; this real classic story that was emotional and real and filled with just ridiculous turns and twists. And that's what makes it intriguing to me."

Well, we could play the hardcore gamer card and point out that many video games have storylines like the one Jake describes here; movie directors just have to bring that out on the big screen. For instance, they can't very well fall short in the "emotional and real" aspects of the "Metal Gear Solid" movie, now can they? But anyway, we are indeed hoping that "Prince of Persia" turns out to be a fun, well-done film that is more of a tribute to the fans…rather than the typical disappointment.

As long as it doesn't have Jean Claude Van Damme in it, it has a chance.

Back in the day, he was the man, when I was in 8th, 9th grade, I loved his movies. I guess at that time I couldn't tell that he had no acting chops.

Thrill Kill, when is the last time you watched it? I would think if you watched it now, you would cringe on how bad it is. I suppose it is one of those that is so bad it is good? I know I liked that one when I was a kid.

Every movie needs JCVD and Chuck Norris. They are as important as boobs or lesbians to making every movie better.

Ah, JCVD…yeah, back in the day, he was a bad-ass. But then again, so was Steven Seagal. All their early stuff was frickin' great in a totally cheese way, IMO.

I was gonna say the same thing, an intriguing and emotional epic is exactly what video games tend to be. I know he's the protagonist in the film and has to push it but I'm inclined to believe him, this will probably be a very good movie. Let's hope it starts a trend.

Gemma was a Bond girl right?

Yup. It thought from this pic, she looked a whole lot like the half-Cuban/half-Russian gal from Quantum Solace. Turns out, she's from Quantum Solace, but she's the other one (red-hed).

I'm just bothered at the fact Hollywood gets a caucasian actor to play a persian. The couldn't find a real persian or a israeli actor, maybe even latin actor to play this role. They could of done alot better It's stupid!

Technically, Persians, as well as their language, are classified as caucasian. A lot of them appear to be darker, but that is because they've mixed with a lot of races (just about every race except for African). Though, I know what you mean. There was a time in hollywood western films, they would just have Italians wearing wigs, with painted skin playing the parts of Natives. They wouldn't do that today.

I walked into my local "Grammaphone" store here in Singapore and bulked at the price of Blu Ray movies. You won't catch me dead buying these until I get them for the same price as a DVD on sale… which I noticed was $10 dollars, about US$6.70. Then Blu Ray has arrived… for me!

really could not care less about the movie.
for some reason im not enjoying movies any where near as much as i use too.
the dark night was the last one i really enjoyed, went to see 2012 last night and fell asleep.
i mean yes its Hollywood but CAN IT GET ANY MORE PREDICTABLE?
i mean every single scene you can pick exactly whats going to happen, you know the ending half way through the bloody movie.
maybe thats why im not enjoying them anymore, there just far to predictable.

I agree with BlackBriar. Its getting ridiculous especially when Angelina Jolie played a black woman. But i'm not surprised, it's a Disney movie, but i am surprised that by it being a Disney movie the went with Jake instead of Orlando.

Also, why Jake Gyllenhaal? Since when has his name rang any bells? He and his sister both are sub par.
