We all know the Call of Duty franchise isn't going anywhere and at this point, we can expect a new entry every year, what with Infinity Ward and Treyarch trading off.
So it's no surprise to learn that Activision has confirmed another CoD title for 2010; the announcement came during a conference call with analysts, and of course, other major franchises will return as well. Said Activision president Mike Griffith:
"In [calendar year] 2010, Activision Publishing is expected to release strong, innovative new titles. The diversified lineup will include titles based on the best selling franchises including Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Shrek, [and] Spider-Man."
Details are few and far between concerning the Guitar Hero and Spider-Man titles but we've heard pieces of information concerning the next Call of Duty . Earlier this year, Treyarch was reportedly seeking new music for the game, and such tracks included "Vietnam War-era tunes, as well as Cuban, African, and Soviet Union music," which got people thinking. Could it be based around Vietnam or the Cold War? We also heard from Treyarch's senior producer that World at War would be the last CoD title to be set in World War II, which will undoubtedly be a major topic of debate amongst loyal followers. Lastly, we do know that wherever the setting, the new Call of Duty has already been in development for quite some time so perhaps we'll start seeing some info and media before the year is out.
At this time, Activision is clearly focusing on the gigantic launch of Modern Warfare 2 , which launches next week and is predicted to be one of the single biggest entertainment-related launches in history. Could it sell 14 million copies before the year is out…? We'll stay on the lookout for any details concerning the next Call of Duty but in the meantime, let's hear from you: what setting would you prefer?
Only looked at title and all I can say is that's good to hear… I was spoiled with Modern Warfare and going back to the older weapons just sucked too much, though I used to go crazy over WWII shooters.
***Random Thought*** how cool do you think it would be if they did some sort of futuristic war game like WWIII and speculate possible weapons
Might be a stupid idea but I wonder where else they'll go with it because I'd rather see a shooter with more recent technology.

they need to move to NAM… the only good game set in that era was snake eater and it's got little to do with the actual conflict…
CoD: Civil War… nah.
haha i was thinking the same thing… but like I said I can't regress in weaponry
Take a page from Ratchet & Clank…
Cod: Civil War Future lol
I love the high tech themes. I want gadgets, red dot sites and really detailed automatic machine guns and sniper rifles.
I'm also just played out of WWII – I even like the idea of Vietnam (even though its not too high tech), but think of all the GREAT music you could put in there.
I'm really looking forward to MW2 – it should be incredible.
But I don't know how long they can keep it interesting with a new one EVERY YEAR…
If they based it off of Vietnam…how badass would it be if Forrest Gump was an unlockable character?
could we allow this one to come out before talking of the next one please activision?
yea seriously jeeeez
thank everyone who preordered MW2. When you buy a reskinned version of a game you already own six reskinned versions of you are directly responsible for this sort of thing.
chucknasty, when people are sick of COD, they'll stop buying it. just because it exists doesn't mean you need to have it. im gonna get Mw2 then cod can go eff itself unless it make something im interested in.
I want to see other 'fantasy' settings for CoD. Like a Cod set in the Bioshock/Fallout3 futuristic 50s or 60s. Or heck, CoD Future Warfare or some such.
yea or something like a post apocalyptic future, Allies vs. Mutated enemy nations with futuristic weapons
laxpro we dont want no more halos
i didn't exactly mean halo, but I guess you can get that from the post… I just wanna see futuristic weaponry (kind of like Modern Warfare weaponry only what one would assume to be more advanced) and halo doesn't really have that
Yea I know, just wanted an excuse to bash Halo lol 😀
Call of duty heroes World Tour?
lol
that could actually work in a way…
must be Vietnam. it would be kinda hard to make it based on the Cold War considering it was "cold" aka no battles occurred… i suppose they could have you cruise around the USSR in a submarine trying to avoid detection. then you get to be Kennedy negotiating with russia, and then a sailor on board a navy cruiser helping in the blockade of Cuba. then you are Neil Armstrong stepping on the moon to "win" the space race… AWESOME!!! LOL
Your name is NoMoreWar – but you're commenting on a game that is all about WAR…
I dont get it.
And what do you expect our kids to play 30 years from now if there are no more wars today? HAHA
I would hate to continue to see WWII games in 30 years!
just messin' around.
No shortage of wars today unfortunately, so you don't need to worry about what your kids will end up playing. But in the cold war there were plenty of things going on besides Vietnam – insurgencies all throughout Africa, with the Soviets on one side and the US on the other, and some stuff going on in South America as well.
As for CoD and WWII, a good game is a good game – I play plenty enough other games that one good WWII shooter for me every couple of years isn't over-saturation, and there are _heaps_ of topics and themes that gaming hasn't gone close to, but Vietnam is ripe, as is Korea, or even Afghanistan (a game playing as the Mujahideen fighting the Russkies has the potential to be a lot of fun).
@ SvenMD: lol, i keep getting this more and more. its a game, and i thoroughly enjoy virtually killing virtual people.
@ Axe99: well i dont know what you are talking about regarding the Cold War unless you mean the era in general, but i'm talking specifically about the conflict between the US and USSR named the Cold War because it was "cold," referencing the fact that there was no actual warfare going on… just an arms race, space race, economic race, nuclear missiles being sent to Cuba, resulting blockade, etc.

What about Vietnam? Compared to WW II and modern settings, Vietnam has had next to nothing come out.
Vietnam war? Does that mean you can't beat the game?
@photo K, you win by getting out of vietnam alive. if you were in my squad with that attitude and went KIA , in the words of AnimalMother- Better you than me.
Call Of Duty: Kotick's Office
Great multiplayer map idea… weaving in and out of piles of gold coins and stacks of money…
Yep and a screw games billboard too
They could have had the decency to wait till MW2 came out. While their at it they might as well confirm the one set of 2011.
Every bloody year…
How are "Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Shrek, [and] Spider-Man." stong, innovative new titles?

New CoD it's not WWII… that must be the innovative feat.
Was thinking the same thing, especially when he said "innovative" and "based on" in the same answer. So he's practically admitted it's all copies of old innovations.
In the name of business, he's only selling himself.
Well, they're not, thats why i only buy every second CoD… sorry Treyarch.
I see the series heading to the future.
One world governments fighting terrorism.
i prefer a completely fabricated COD:WWIII, using real proto-type weapons, but nothing fake and so futuristic like Halo.
do they have to do a new one every single year?
actually yes they do. are you unfamiliar with activision? lets be happy they only do 1 a year. hell with activision we are lucky they arent tryin to do it twice or more a year like the hero games.
They are just setting up that stool next to the cow, and milking those udders for all they are worth. Until everyone is lactose intolerant, you will continue to see them roll out more of the same year after year.
yep callin it right now. CoD in 2011.
might as well call the next one also, CoD in 2012. oh dont forget CoD set for 2013 and the one set for 2014 and….
The only thing that'll stop this is if the world really does end in 2012.
Yeah. But the world better not end with you in 2012.
There will be no 2013, it's like the 13th floor in the USA, it doesn't exist, you go from the 12th to the 14th floor, so we'll just skip straight from 2012 to 2014. ABC will have to run a new TV show about how the entire human race lost a year of their lives and no one remembers a thing….
it'll be like those 3 doctor who episodes like 2 years ago
Lol World, no, the WorldEndsWIthYou 🙂
Q!
"i am home"
I hope this is true, that's why I didn't buy WOW. I'm tired of that WW2 crap.
NOOOO!! not World of Warcraft Athene needs to pwn the newbs
After Tuesday I am officially done with the COD franchise, I just wanted the sequal to my favorite one. Now it's dead, and done. Activision sucks.
and what you gonna do when they release the third one?
What it there's a MW3?
