Sony, Ubisoft Ink Marketing Deal For Assassin’s Creed II

Has anyone noticed that multiplatform advertisements often focus on the Xbox 360? In the past, this has made perfect sense, what with the much larger 360 user base.

But now that the gap has narrowed a great deal, it's past time to see some PlayStation 3-related ads for multiplats, right? Well, the first example you'll likely see is that of Assassin's Creed II , as according to a report from GamesIndustry.biz , Ubisoft has inked a deal with Sony to make this happen. We already mentioned the first point of some note in that article; the fact that pre-orders are way up over the original Creed – about 80% better – although it makes perfect sense. The interesting part revolves around marketing for the hotly anticipated sequel, as TV ads focusing on the PS3 version of the game will begin popping up in North America and Europe. In other words, we'll see more ACII ad activity "than would have been possible otherwise," 'cuz Sony is willing to lend a helping hand. Perhaps this is the start of a new trend: Sony may not buy exclusives like Microsoft, but they're certainly not above throwing around some marketing dollars. And as far as many analysts are concerned, it's about time .

For our part, we just can't wait to give ACII a try. Just about everything we've seen for this game has been astounding; it should definitely be a big holiday winner.

Ya, pretty much figured this was going to happen when Sony got the E3 demo.

Thats good to here. I was hoping that they didn't stop with the EA sports campaign. Too bad they didn't to it with Wal-Mart/Modern Warfare 2. I just saw it and it showed the game as if it was a 360 game.

Yeah im glad this issue is now just a dead issue, I was getting tired of the propaganda of microsoft owning the commercial "bragging rights" to multiplat advertisments and with any luck this'll let people see that the market is wider then the before ^_^

I'm sick of seeing xbox painted all over multiplat games. I hope Sony stays with this strategy.

ive noticed it the other way around lately.
ever since the slim came out, there was so many adds for multiplatform games like NFS shift with the PS3 logo, and PS3 slim price at the end of them.
kinda sad when sony is supporting 3rd party games more than their own.
god knows how many NFS shift adds ive seen in comparison to the 3 or so infamous adds and zero uncharted 2 adds.
seriously what the …….. is wrong with them?
ZERO! adds for uncharted 2
they obviously dont want there games selling well, i wonder how many R&C ACIT adds ill see.

Dude i dont know where you live but I live in the US and every other commercial I saw was for Uncharted 2 you know the one with the girlfriend that thinks its a movie? Also ever since the price drop I've seen an unprecedented amount of Sony commercials they are really letting the marketing dollars fly for the holiday season, it reminds me of the days of old you know the ps2 era where Sony dominated the gaming market as they soon should again. "Remember it's a marathon not a sprint" someone should've told M$ that. Its one thing to have a system that just launched without many games but when you're 4-5 years into the development cycle and you're out of great exclusives something's clearly wrong with your business plan. Guess they should have saved some of that timed exclusive cash.

Yeah, I noticed that on some internet ads. Saw some of the commercials on tv today but was too focused on the AC symbol to pay much attention to anything else. Now that I'll be getting a little extra money, I'll def be getting this and Uncharted 2.

I haven't played this series, so I'm not gonna jump in until I see reviews of AC.

idk i hope so but ive been watching ultimate fighter and all the commercials for ac2 had no logo after them. actually i think it had all of them so, maybe it just includes sony? idk, i think this game would help, if sony can throw there console behind it in the ads for sure.

i will say im sick of the mw2 commercials and the mw2 edition console of the 360 get over it please! you want an awesome game edition of a console check out the Final Fantasy ps3. that thing is a beaut!

I gotta say that Sony has been pumping out good advertisement these days. They must have laid off the crappy team from before and started over fresh, because "it only does everything" slogan is helping them a lot. If they can get some big hitters like ACII to show the PS3 logo, and maybe the system at the end with it's slogan, and the price, they'll have a hit with ACII. I like the new stuff, keep it up Sony.

They need to, a few friends of mine think that most of these multiplats are only on the 360 because of the picture of the 360 stuck on at the end of the ad.

In the U.K Need for speed shift had adverts that had the PS3 at the end but since they have stopped showing about twice as many have come out with the 360 at the end.

cool, i'm not really interested in ACII dspite all i've seen. AC put me off because although it was a great technical achievement, the story wasn't to my liking with its funky ending and the gameplay became repetitive rather quickly. The dynamic cutscenes were cool, but there wasn't anything particularly thrilling about them. Well i'll wait for the review for this one and then maybe i'll rent it.

Heh… forget marketing. We should be happy with the fact that previously "360-only" titles are now hitting the PS3 with even more content. Alas, I am pleased to see Sony stepping up to the plate.

Perhaps it is 'about time' that Sony throws some marketing dollars around. But I'd like everyone to remember that had they thrown significant marketing money around when the PS3 had a far higher price and a lower installed base, the effect would have been muted due to the price differential. Now with the Slim model and slim price as well as the market 'buzz' around the PS3 and Playstation brand, well, now is the perfect time to spread some of those marketing dollars around.

Personally, I think that any publisher who pushes out an ad for a multi-platform game ought to be required to list each platform the game is available for, just as they must prominently indicate the game's rating. I don't care who tags on a 5 second product ident at the end of the commercial, so long as it's clear during the commercial (for a multi-platform game) just what platforms the game is available on. Frankly it just doesn't make good business sense to put out a commercial and snub half your potential audience.

I totally agree. In fact, I think I feel more strongly about it than the Highlander.

I hate it when Microsoft "brands" multi-platform games as 360 games and I also hate it when Sony "brands" multi-platform games as PS3 games.

I'm delighted to see Sony spending more money on advertizing (though I never found there to be a dearth of PS3 ads, as others have stated), but I hate to see Sony stooping to Microsoft's level. Two wrongs don't make a right (though three lefts do).

"Sony may not buy exclusives" So… developers just choice to make PS3 exclusives because they want to the quality of game to be on the top end and not just sale numbers. That's how I know I bought the right console.

Sony really is in a sweet spot right now and it's the perfect time to start flexing your systems' muscle. This holiday season, I am sure we'll see a flooding of ads (hopefully print ads will also see an upswing…until now, it's always Xbox and Wii with a sampling of PS3). Perhaps this will wake up some other developers who have developed an infatuation love affair with M$, all but mooning PS3/PC players…ahem….IW…..the PS3 is poised to move ahead, and hopefully developers are prepared to come along for the ride.

Hmm, this sounds great. The better business relationship Sony have with Ubi-soft the better chance we are at getting Splinter cell and other games. Well I hope 🙂
