The PSN is home to some of the most unique and rewarding experiences of the generation, and most all for a bargain price. Well, yet another must-try downloadable title is headed your way very soon.
It's the critically acclaimed Braid , the former Xbox 360 exclusive that received rave reviews and became one of the most cherished little titles of the generation. We knew Hothead Games would be bringing the game to the PS3 at some point but today, we have the official press release that gives us the finalized date: November 12. This applies to North America as the European version will be "announced shortly." If you're not familiar, Braid has you controlling the hero, Tim, who must work his way through the beautifully designed and wonderfully artistic world he inhabits. It's basically a puzzle/platformer of sorts that may be best compared to the recently released Trine (only without the combat and RPG elements) and actually has you manipulate time to your advantage. The release describes it this way; it's worth reading:
"In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, including the ability to rewind, create parallel realities and utilize time dilation to overcome the many obstacles in your path. There is no filler in this game; every puzzle shows you something new and interesting about the game world."
They didn't provide us with a price but we'll take a shot in the dark and say it might cost $14.99. Trine was $19.99 and other recent PSN titles were $9.99 so we'll take the middle road and make an estimation. However, it's hardly a guess to assume that Braid will immediately become one of the best downloadable titles on the PSN. Something else you need to buy this month! HA!
Related Game(s): Braid
Why does it look like I'd prefer LBP over this……
LBP is one of a kind. But this game does carry some clout with some very favorable reviews. I will probably try this out, see what all the fuss is about. Always good to have a game on the PS3 I can play with my kids. I can only play the Wii so much you know!

Braid is actually a very very solid and challenging puzzle game. LBP is something entirely different than Braid.
It is definitely worth a purchase and if I didn't already have it on the 360 I would be getting it on PS3, and for that matter I may actually buy it on the PS3 anyway just to have it on there. Yeah, I enjoy it that much.
@coverton,
Yeah, I'll buy it again for the PS3 too.
I was just thinking of this game this week, probably after reading about Trine, or playing Crank's Time manipulation levels, and I was wondering what happened to it. Thanks for the update, Ben.
No time to play these little dlc rip offs.
Braid is leaps and bounds more than just a DLC rip off. You should really research it before slagging it.
Who, Mr. Negativity?
Why would he research anything when he can continue to talk out of his ass?
LMAO @ Orvisman! Good one bro!
Research is going to make me want to pay 15 bux for Commander Keen? You guys are so funny. You just keep high-fiving each other over the greatness that is Braid. I've got blockbusters to play.
Without having played Braid, mind you, I think why there has been so much acclaim over this title is that it takes gamers back to the fundamentals of what made games so great: ingenious gameplay, level design, and even story (and even the music that went along with those). I'm not implying today's blockbusters are not made out of that stuff. On the contrary, after putting in 20+ hours in playing R&C:ACIT (on Hard while collecting all Zoni's, Holo-plans, and Golden Bolts), I am ecstatic over what games we have for the PS3. And I'll be happy to download Braid when it's released on the PSN.
By the way, i loved the clever Clank levels and the breathtaking explorable moons. The game lacks online fragging, but it has the most enjoyable single-player campaign this generation for me. But, my suggestion is to play the game in chunks.
Just how many exclusives does the 360 have left? Im not trying to start something here (seems that way) but at this rate how can the 360 survive? I may not like the 360 but we need it for the competition that makes so many games better.
not much, really. most of the 360 exclusives are either crap or mediocre at best and some see enhanced ps3 ports. i refunded magnacarta 2 after it came clear to me it's a timed exclusive. i'll wait for the ps3 port to come out. rpgs feel better on playstation for some reason… 😛
having played the 360 version of braid and already and solved all the puzzles, i'll be passing this up. but for those of u who haven't played it b4, i highly recommend it. u get this 'feeling' from the environment and the time-travel part plays a huge role in the gameplay. the best thing about tho, was the ending. it's so complex, it's near impossible to understand.
i am wondering, tho, if this signals the US release of ToV, since games at are a year old are still capable of selling well on other systems. does braid have additional content? well have to wait and see…
Well in this case, we are talking about downloadable games. First it was Castle Crashers, and now Braid.
I wonder if it would ever go the other way? What I mean, is will we ever see Flower, Fat Princess, etc. move over to XBL?
@MyWorstNightmar
i've yet to see a psn exclusive game move over to xbl. since hardly any ps3 exclusive game (disk or psn) gets ported, i doubt xbox-only users will get to play flower. in terms of disk-based, as of now, the only ps3 exclusives that ended up ported to the xbox 360 are cross edge *shocker* and record of agarest war. the xbox 360 versions of those won't be seen worldwide however…

Alan Wake and Conviction are the only ones that I am planning on getting. Oh and Mass Effect 2. I know that ME and ME2 might make their way to the PS3 and won't be exclusive anymore but I will get ME2 on 360 nonetheless just so I can link the saves and not have to start fresh again on a different platform.
Oh and Fable 2 and the upcoming 3 and pretty much anything Molyeaux or however you spell his name comes out with.
They still have some exclusives and for what they have as exclusives they really are the cream of the crop on the system, just like the PS3 exclusives are the best on the PS3.
It helps that the PS3 exclusives outstrip the 360 exclusives pretty much hands down now though.
i'm definitely getting alan wake and conviction (epically alan wake). to tell u the truth, my 360's been sitting there ever since i got the ps3 so i need to make up for that 😛
I think it is strange that both Cross Edge and Agarest went to the 360 but only in Japan, the one region where it sorely lags behind. Maybe it was a way of trying to get the Japanese market to sort of embrace the 360? I dunno, but still a weird turn of events in my opinion.
from my understanding, cross edge sold horribly, in the US AND JAPAN. famitsu reported that only 44,246 units were sold at the end of 2008 in japan. selling it on the 360 won't make things better because of as you said, a [much] lower fanbase. if it already failed at a higher fanbase, what makes idea factory think that a near nonexistent one will save them? its an obvious desperation for more sales. im not sure about agarest's situation tho. it's worth nothing, tho, that they're both made by the same company…
I am starting to wonder why I have a 360, all it does is sit there, turned off. I do have Mass Effect but still have not got round to playing it, the only other thing on the horizon for me is Alan Wake but the more I see of it the less interested I am.
Im also wondering why I still have a 360. It has some nice games but Iv beat them all or I have them on PC. I don't even have it hooked to my TV anymore (the PC took the last HDMI slot). The 360 needs more exclusive games (NOT A FPS. There are way to damn many), it's that simple.
I M$ doesn't do something by June, I truly fear for the 360. Maybe they will come out with the 720 next year to try and beat everyone the the next gen once again.

dont forget crackdown 2.
why does everyone forget that?
crackdown is one of my favorite games, and crackdown 2 is the only reason im keeping my 360.
well that, and theres nothing on the PSP worthwhile.
I did enjoy crackdown, but never finished it, but that was the 360's fault. I must have got to about 90% of the game and then all of a sudden my saved data was corrupt…WTF. Anyway my only option was to start again so I sold it.
Because Crackdown 2 is not being developed by the same developer, so it remains to be seen if the second game can recapture the magic of the first.
I'm sure I'll pick it up, but SC: Conviction and Alan Wake are higher on my priority list; and I'm sure Conviction will show up on the PS3 at some point.
I don't have a 360, but they released a mac version of this a few months ago. I downloaded the demo, and I must say it was an impressive game. Really forces you to think in ways you don't normally about platformers.
According to the PS Blog, it is $14.99.
LOL. I just saw my RSS feed update and was coming to say that very thing.
Spot on Ben with your guessing skills.
Even though I have Trine, I want Braid, too. This is a nice surprise. I'm getting it Day One.
Well, I guess I should be happy that too many games are coming out for me to keep up. This will be one that I probably have to let go until a later date.
Hye guys just wondering, is Trine any good? i would probably get it if it had a demo. But it looked really cool but i was confused how the controls would be on the ps3.
There is a demo of Trine, well there is in the UK/Euro store.
It is a beautiful game; really beautiful and plays very well;
I will be picking up "Trine", Braid and Uncharted 2 for Christmas… yes, waiting 8 weeks for all of them… actually if I wait longer, the prices will come down 🙂 I am learning the system and how it works.
Q!
"i am home"
mmmmmm
not always, i bought gears 2 and unreal tournament 3 for 100 bucks each in june.
even though gears 2 had been out for 7 months and unreal tournament 3 was longer.
hell infamous here is still 110 bucks, even though its suppose to go platinum in a few days.
Well I loved the Trial on the 360 never got around to buying it though, I haven't really bought no arcades, I much rather full games.
My housemate has this game on his PC and it's fantastic. One of the best DLC only games I've seen. Seeing as he has it, I might not download it right away, but I probably will someday.
i received a PSN card from a mate today so i might give this, fat princess and trine a go later on.
im surprised ive lasted this long for fat princess, i was dying to play it just before it was delayed.
still havent tried shatter yet either, curse sony and there massive download files.
why the hell cant they compress their bloody files?
i cant believe how big some things are, a 10 minute demo is 2.7GBs?
you gotta be kidding me, FEAR is just over 3GBs AND THATS A FULL BLOODY GAME!
My brother has this game for the xbox 360. This game truly is a piece of art. The graphics are unique and for all those puzzle solvers out there this is the perfect game for you. I can't wait to snag it myself on the 12th. Hehe.
YES, YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.
DAMN I CAN'T STOP JUMPING FOR JOY!
