There are plenty of great games to be had this holiday season, but few are what you would call straight-up, over-the-top, bad-ass, hack 'n slash, press buttons until your fingers cramp action titles.

Thing is, we have to wait for Bayonetta until January, even though it's already out in Japan. And maybe you've already had your fill of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and aren't as stoked by the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Assassin's Creed II . Therefore, you might want to import Bayonetta and surprisingly enough, the language barrier won't be an issue: according to Siliconera , "the Japanese PlayStation 3 version is region free and entirely in English." The instruction manual isn't but everything in the game, from the menus to the voices, is…although we're not entirely sure why . But maybe we shouldn't ask that question; maybe we should be happy that if we absolutely needed Bayonetta right this instant, we could do it without sacrificing any understanding of the story. They say Play-Asia has some copies left so if you're sick of waiting for the game that scored a perfect 40/40 from Famitsu, feel free to wait no longer.

Of course, we should probably clarify that it was the Xbox 360 version that nailed down that perfect score; the PS3 version scored a little lower, coming in at 38/40. Well, that's the bit you sacrifice for being a port, I guess.

Oh wow that's a shocking piece of news! I hope more jap games come with this region free feature, its a big nod to how gamers are expanding across the globe I think ^_^

and if they weren't it wouldn't matter, US and Japan are in the same Blu-ray region.

Yeah, I saw somebody at another site showing off a picture of the Japanese version of Bayonetta. All PS3 games are region-free, aren't they?

I'll wait for the North American release, and the North American reviews that'll come along with it. I'm not sold on this one at all.

i'll be waiting 4 the US release too, but if ur 'not sold on it at all' then don't buy it. i'll tell u one thing tho, if u don't buy it you'll be missing out on a lot, and i mean A LOT of high-climatic action!

OK, if you say so.

And a lot of screen tearing to go with that cinematic action. ūüėČ

we could be having this here too, but new ips during the holidays hardly turn out well. i'd rather get bayonetta than MW2: another average shooter with good graphics

Yeah, lol they are. But I think they mean Bayonetta is a true region-free game. I mean, sure, you could play any PS3 game across the board, but as for understanding an import in another language, you usually gotta guess, or just find an FAQ for it. It's a shame, Sega did something right in that aspect, but they totally screwed up by developing it for the 360 first, =P.

well i can't wait to get it. i don't care what u make of it. i enjoyed devil may cry and ninja gaiden, so i know i'll enjoy bayonetta too. if that makes me a 'fanboy', again i don't care. at least i'm some of the people willing to give new IPs a chance

first i seen you hate on FPS, now you hate on bayonnetta. I'm not going to buy it full price because i dont want to support this kind of standard concerning half ass ports. So i'll have to wait till later. kinda makes me wonder what kind of games you like to play.

I don't hate Bayoneta I already make a post with pros and cons of this game.. I'm with you in this point of dont pay full price for an inferior version.

My opinion of FPS aren't about just hate but how the industry degenerates on that genre and now we are infested with them.

I agree with Oxvial. There's nothing great or ground breaking about this game. The graphics look not like the PS2 but the original Xbox. The game play is just a rehash or a copy of Devil May Cry. That may be great for fans of DMC but it's hardly original or new. Plus I don't know about the 360 version but the Japanese PS3 demo I just downloaded has some of the worst screen tearing Ive ever seen. I don't know how this got a perfect score. Those Famitsu reviewers are on crack.

No one should be expected to pay full price or a ported game.

Im not a hardcore FPS fanboy. The main thing i look for in an FPS is that it is enjoyable for me to play. You cant really ask for any ground breaking features when it involves FPS games. If they do like in killzone 2 graphics, thats good for the game too. Bottom line is i like FPS because i enjoy playing it. I played killzone 2, resistance series, Modern warfare, world at war, unreal tournament, and battlefield bad company. and after playing COD4, i have high hopes for Modern warfare 2, mostly concerning multiplayer. But not as high as i had for uncharted 2 which delivered big time.

The Demo wasn't "Entirely in English", Just the Dialogue. Items and messages were in Jap. text. Not very helpful if it was an important piece of info. that you needed.

great news, will think about it, cuz sometimes i do like Jap. voice over English provided it has English subtitle.

I gotta pass, not too happy about being treated like dogsh*t.

And well, isn't English a required course in Japan?

Shouldn't Square Enix do the same thing with FFXIII? "No…we hardly care what our customers think." Oh right I forgot about that.

*long sigh of disappointment*

Pretty cool how Bayonetta is available to us though.
