Namco's Splatterhouse has gone through a confusing development process – Bottlerocket is at the reigns; no, wait, they're not…no, wait, they are! – but maybe this latest update proves the game is finally on track.

According to Joystiq , there are five new screenshots and the added information that the promising, bloody action title should release during the third quarter of next year. When it was first pushed out of this year, Splatterhouse was given a tentative "early 2010" estimate, which unfortunately has proven inaccurate. And if you've never caught a glimpse of the game before, this latest batch of screens show a slightly different atmospheric palette; it's almost cel-shaded but…not. They also toned down the muscle definition on main character Rick, which seems to be a reversal of the recent trend of overstuffed male heroes. Immensely bloody games tend to have a bizarre cult following ("I'll buy anything that's gory!") but without the polish and fun gameplay, mediocre titles go nowhere. Therefore, perhaps we shouldn't be too annoyed at this delay; if the devs need time, give 'em the time. We'd much rather wait for a quality product and besides, it's not like we're deficient in awesome software right now.

We'll bring you more on Splatterhouse as it becomes available. For now, keep hunting for that hidden U2 treasure chest and please, for the love of God, take some breaks when searching. Don't hurt yourself. ūüėČ

Promising bloody action title? I think not. Just another example of a failed attempt at cashing in on a fun 2D experience. Everything shown thus far for this game has been mediocre at best.

I remember the old splatterhouse game that garnered so much bad press. It was fantastic. I hope this new one is an actual good game and not a "HEY! LOOK AT THE BLOOD! IT MAKES IT GREAT!" kind of game. I hope the devs put something into it.

I have some mild interest in this game but all the delays and farting around rarely produces a good game. I wonder what happened. Wasn't it supposed to be a downloadable title at one point? I hope they take the extra time to add some depth.

::WAY OFF TOPIC::

Sorry for my delay in regards to FallOut3. I beat Demon's Souls and I'm going to start back at it again once I finish Uncharted2 (Which I bet takes me far less time than DS did).

FallOut3 was a perfect example of a game trying to be too many things and faltering because of it. Being a FPS connoisseur I couldn't look past the flaws in the shooting. The guns had hardly any weight to them and the aiming was hardly accurate. The addition of RPG mechanics sounded like a good idea until freezing time and clicking various areas around an enemy's body became boring.

WAY too much empty land with nothing but walking involved. Id much rather play a game with random encounters, at least then I'm ensured some form of gameplay other than walking.

Never felt like a true Fallout game, more like Oblivion with more metal and technology.

The endings BLOW, I mean BLOW. Oh ya I play just to die, w00h00!

I have to admit I went into the game being biased towards it based on my previous Fallout experiences. I'm glad you enjoyed it. On a related note one of my friends picked up Demon's Souls and HATES it. I guess I'm on the other end of the equation this time.

Damn, you're right. I guess I was assuming a majority of people had already played it if they wanted to since its been out for a while. My bad on that, big time.

There doesn't seem to be any drive behind the development of this game. No vision and no drive equals lousy game.

Nice to hear it's not vapourware yet, I want this to turn out well even though it more than likely won't.
The new look isn't exactly much of an improvement. This could have been a delicously gory horror-fest but it's looking like it'll be a mediocre brawler with lot's of red paint. Here's hoping the bg music is still "all mastadon all the time."

If Namco was smart then they would've gutted this game because no amount of extra development is going to save it.
