Sadly, we won't be able to play with EyePet this year; it was revealed yesterday that the innovative virtual friend is on hold for North America until next year. GameStop currently lists it with an April 4 release date.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't learn more about it, so you should definitely check out a new interview with Sony Computer Entertainment London's producer and creative art director, Nicolas Doucet. Conducted by French site GameKult – Euro sister site to GameSpot – the interview runs through some behind-the-scenes information for EyePet and even turns our attention to a couple projects we thought were six feet under. Here's one of the most interesting comments about that cuddly virtual friend:

"Well, it is a casual game first. I would say that you'll need to spend 15 minutes a day to ensure everything's OK with your pet. But there are also things, such as drawing, where you can lose hours at a time. What happens if I put square wheels on my car? If I put three, five, six wheels? What if I add a spoiler? You can also take and use pictures with personal touches: your home, your family, your EyePet, your games. Once you put it all online, it becomes a bit like Little Big Planet. Those who love it will get lost."

There's a lot more about EyePet there so if you're interested, feel free to give it a read. But to add to the intrigue is the mention of Eight Days and The Getaway 3 , two games that had supposedly bitten the dust quite some time ago. But Doucet says they haven't been entirely abandoned; merely "put on hold" so the team could work on other projects like SingStar . He also confirms that both games were "just over halfway through" in terms of development so there's a possibility they may return to those projects at some point in the future. It seems it was more about a change in focus for a while, that's all. So we'll be on the lookout for any details about a resurrection for either of those games!

I was always under the impression that TG3 and Eight Days were put on hold. This is the first time I hear of them being thought of as having "bitten the dust".

As for Eyepet being pushed back. I find it kinda sad as I looking forward to it coming out for the holidays, but hearing about the 15 min check up stuff is perfect because GT5 will consume soooo much time.

I'm sure it's possible to get a UK copy shipped over to the US.

But DLC is region locked so if you have a PAL version you cannot buy NTSC DLC, and in a game where half of it is dressing up your monkey-rat-dog-man-bear-pig you know that yo will want to buy every sweater off the Playstation store for it.

Is it just me or is that Eyepet thing kinda creepy? It's supposed to be simian right? It's hard to tell. I always think of the monkey from Monkey Shines when I see that thing. Just give him a pair of cymbals…

this topic was bought up at the neogaf forums and was quickly found out that The Getaway and 8 Days had infact ben cancelled by someone who worked as a developer on those games.

Except that the head developer for the group just said the games weren't cancelled outright, just put on hold.

So, who are you going to believe, the developer named in an article or some anonymous guy on the NeoGaf boards who says he knows a guy who knows a guy who was a developer on the games and he says they were canceled?

Sadly, I would believe the NeoGaf forums over what the creative art director said.

Notice how he said "on hold", well here are some other games which are "on hold" (taken from the thread):

The Witcher: The Rise of the White Wolf, The Crossing, Project HAMMER, Halo Chronicles, NASCAR Whatever Year It Is, Turok 2, Frame City Killer, Harker, Aliens RPG, Starcraft: Ghost, Duality, and Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising.

On hold is an easier way of saying "cancelled" in this industry, cause it does leave the door open, but not many games ever get taken off hold.

I think Sony Bend, the original Syphon Filter developers, would be working on Syphon Filter 5, not Sony Cambridge. I could be wrong though.
