Warner Bros. Boosts SCi, Eidos

Major Hollywood player Warner Bros. Entertainment has announced they plan to make a significant financial investment in SCi Entertainment Group, the parent company of game publisher Eidos. But just how significant? Well, the investment rings up to over 10% of SCi's worth, and the deal will be finalized once SCi shareholders approve it.

Eidos gets a big bonus out of this transaction as well; they've gained the rights to develop games based on a number of WB properties: Batman, Looney Toons, and the popular TV show, "The OC," for starters. And because WB owns the licensing to Hanna-Barbera, Eidos will have access to those cartoon characters as well (Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, etc.).

To solidify the deal and offer some assistance of their own, Warner Bros. will begin handling and distributing some Eidos-published games. The worldwide company will provide North American warehousing, merchandising services, and other benefits to Europe-based SCi. As far as actual game operations are concerned, the U.S. branch of Eidos will continue to have full control.
