The PS3 Slim boasts a large 120GB hard drive, which should be plenty for most gamers. But if you desire something even bigger, you've likely been paying attention to the rumors concerning a 250GB model.

Japan is getting a special FFXIII-themed PS3 Slim that features the massive hard drive in question, but beyond that, we've only seen spotty rumors about a regular 250GB Slim hitting store shelves in 2009. The latest evidence comes from the reliable UK branch of Amazon.com, as noted by Engadget ; this machine will supposedly be available on October 6, which means European gamers will be able to plunk down their cash for this 250GB mammoth on Tuesday. Furthermore, this picture here from an "unnamed retailer" shows both the 120GB and 250GB PS3 Slims side by side, so it appears that we're approaching a definite announcement at some point. However, while Sony didn't comment on the possibility of this new model for Europe, SCEA was quick to say there's no such console scheduled for this region. Based on this evidence, it could still be the case that the 250GB PS3 Slim will be exclusive to European (and Japanese) regions, even it if seems somewhat illogical. If you'd rather not take part in all this speculation, you can always switch out the 120GB hard drive with a bigger one of your choosing; it doesn't void the warranty and in fact, Sony actually encourages that you do so.

Anyway, this should all come to a head within the next day or so. We'll see if only Europe gets this 250GB model…perhaps it's like a timed exclusive for PAL areas, or something.

Any idea how will this 250gb is priced? Its too early to replace the 120gb already.

If it's priced reasonably I might buy it to upgrade from the fatty. Then I'd put my 320gb hdd in and I'd buy two enclosures for the original 60gb and the 250gb hdds that'd be sitting around. I would never run out of space!! Muahahahaha!!!

That is what they all say Kowhoho… you probably will run out of space…

I thought I wouldn't need a lot more space… I am about to buy a x4 drive enclosure that will permit me to use x4 – 2Terra 3.5inch hard disks. I will buy one to begin with and add as I need… this will be a mini NAS server for the whole house, all my laptops and the PS3 can draw all media from them… space for 10 years at least…

I just upgraded my 80gb to a 320gb. I'm trying to tell myself that I won't need another one, but by the time the PS4 comes out, I have a feeling I'll be putting at least a 500 gb in there before the system is done. Have to wait and see I guess…

You know, instead of bringing out consoles with Larger harddrives, why don't them just make some Harddrives to buy for those people who arent tech savvy. Kinda getting tired of them bringing out this new PS3 crap every so often. Just "Inform" people about the ability to upgrade the harddrive. It's cheaper and very easy.

Sony doesn't need to bring out discs that are easier to install, they couldn't really be much easier to install.

What they'd be better off doing (in that regard) is working out an agreement with a big electronics retailer to provide HDD upgrade services for PS3 owners who don't want to do it themselves.

weve already got them.
theres a 250GB bundel with fifa 2010 and NFS shift.
and one with uncharted 2 on the 15th.
wonder if they will do one with R&C ACIT.
kinda disappointed though its 100 bucks more than the 120GB, last time they did this it was the same price with 2 games instead of 1.

Last time they did this? They've released a 250GB "slim" model before?

last time they released a extra bundle.
when they released the 80GB next to the 40 it was the same price and came with 2 free games.
where the 40 came with zilch.

The 40GB came with Spider-Man 3 and lots of retailers threw in either a free controller or blu-ray remote but I get what you're saying. The 80GB model didn't come with two games at every retailer and the games included were on the cheap ($20 and under) side but yeah, free is free. The 250GB bundles with a game are going to be the same price as without a game? Does anyone know this yet?

as far as i know there is none.
this will probably be like the uncharted 160GB bundle.
thats why its only 100 bucks more, if they remove the game they would have to drop the price.
no one with half a brain will pay 100 bucks for a extra 130GB

And I remember the days when a 1gb hard drive meant you spent way to much on your computer

Has anyone considered that implications of a HDD failure with a 1TB disc full of downloaded material?

One word – backup.

We're all going bigger with these internal drives, but what about backups?

We should all be running out and buying a large external USB drive for backup purposes.

Remember on your PS3 you probably want to do two kinds of backup – copy your game save data separately to a USB drive, and do a complete system backup as well. Don't forget that the system backup will not backup everything depending on how the content is tagged. You may still have to re-download a lot of stuff.
