With the advent of the God of War Collection , which features two PS2 classics remastered in beautiful high-definition, other developers and publishers are starting to toy with this idea.
And from where we're standing, Team ICO should definitely consider giving their two PS2 classics – ICO and Shadow of the Colossus – the high-def next-gen treatment. We're talking about two of the most artistically accomplished titles of the last generation; not to mention two of the most critically acclaimed and widely beloved games in history. So of course, we were excited to hear Team ICO boss Fumito Ueda tell 1Up that he's on our side. Yep, he'd love to see his projects end up on the PS3 with full HD and Trophy support:
"I always thought they were designed for PS2 and should stay there. But lately, I’ve been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to other platforms to reach more users."
So long as he's considering it, we're happy. However, it appears that Ueda and Co. would need the support of Sony…probably the same executives who gave the green light to the aforementioned collection. But do you remember Sony asking gamers how they might respond to such a product earlier this year? Well, the overwhelmingly positive response likely gave Sony all the feedback they needed, so while the final decision may rest with Sony, it's up to you to talk this up a bit. Request it from every corner of the Internet; start up a petition, whatever you need to do to get their attention. Team ICO is willing, so let's tell 'em it's a damn good idea!
Related Game(s): Shadow of the Colossus, ICO
I sure hope so
ditto!
I was about to say just that 🙂
Same!
we can only hope especially since i'm yet to play either; not that i can't appreciate a good game in low def.
Ico and SoTC coming to PS3 would be the sh*t!
If any games deserve the treatment, it's these two. I've talked with many people about ICO, and more often than naught, they've never played it, and when looking for a copy are unable to find one. This would introduce a large mass of people to these IP's that have never had the chance. Plus, SotC would looking stunning in HD.
1080p and 60fps!
Just please release it with the game and not like GoW.
I mean they should release the collection with the full game… I still hope they offer a collectors edition of the full game with GoW 1 & 2.
I got thumbed down? HAHAHAHAHA
There is no limit for fanboy hysteria LOL
I love both games and will buy both collections regardless but, I still think they should offer a full version of the games with the two remakes/remastered version of the first two so… Thumb me down as much as you want HAHAHAHA
If there is going to be a remake then let it be a remake and not just a reprint. I haven't played Ico yet but I have beat SOTC and I must say that gem is a bit fuzzy on my HDTV. So a HD remake of both will be very welcome to me.
I feel sorry for anyone that has played SOTC without first playing ICO.
Hey LV it seems you're not the only one with haters fanclub, I got my own thumb downers following HAHAHA
Getting thumbs down isn't that big of deal lol
Don't need to comment on it ^_^
And typing "Hahaha" (with caps) doesn't help.. haha, oh what?
BTW I didn't -1 you

@Karosso
Must mean we're doing something right if we have people taking the time to judge our comments.
You're right about that Bro, we sometimes have an opinion that deffer slightly from other people and that seems to be enough to get people annoyed 🙂
Anyways, I have bought at least a dozen copies of each one of those two games in between me letting people borrow it and never getting it back and gifts to friends and cousins… but I'm sure to pick these up if it ever comes true.
LV
Why is it bad to play SOTC before Ico? SOTC is first in the time line is it not. Why would anyone play the game based 2nd in a series first? It is a shame that I haven't played Ico yet, but I just haven't had a will to get it yet. I got 35+ games I own that I haven't beat yet. I need to work on those first before buying some more.
@Chewy
The reason is that the experience you have with Ico carries into SOTC. The entire game you're wondering if this ties in at all with ICO and only after seeing the end of SOTC in combination of having experienced ICO can you truly comprehend the weight of Wander's sacrifice. The end of SOTC is simply beautiful with the knowledge of what goes on with ICO. It's a great gift to those who played Fumito Ueda's previous game.
Well Id rather go with a games time line. When ever a game comes out that's based before something Iv already played that just ruins the story about 60%-70% of the time. Like how SE did with Crisis Core. It's a DAMN GOOD game but I already knew over half of the story before even buying the game. Kowing the story of a game can and has stopped me from ever finishing it. No matter how good the gameplay or MP is.
Have to strongly disagree with you. Having played FinalFantasy7 dozens of time I felt those play throughs made Crisis Core that more enjoyable. Zack was barely even mentioned in FF7 but his fate was well known. It was great to have several main characters from FF7 have their backgrounds fleshed out. How can you say you knew a majority of the storyline in Crisis Core? A vast part of the game dealt with new Characters and scenarios completely unrelated to FF7.
Playing ICO before SOTC will not ruin your gaming experience one bit, however playing SOTC before ICO will reduce the meaning and scope of the game.
Need I remind you the developers intend on you're playing the original before dabbling in these prequels.

Im just saying that a LOT of prequels are ruined for me by knowing the ending. I knew most of CCs story beforehand because the little details in FF7, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, and the Last Order OVA. The only parts in CC I didn't know about was the beginning, some of the filler, and 1 maybe 2 of the other key parts. I tend to pickup on a lot of the little details and once that happens it takes a lot to forget them if I even ever could.
But back to SOTC and Ico. Even if Ico doesn't give away parts of SOTC Id still never play the 2nd game in a series first if I had a choice. It doesn't matter if the devs wanted Ico to be played first to me. What matters to me is that since SOTC is first in the time line, playing Ico first could have ruined it for me. The only way for me to have known that Ico didn't ruin SOTC was to play Ico. That "what if" was a huge factor for me in my choice in play order.
Sure, why not? Like God of War, offer a hi-def, low-priced package for both major fans and newcomers that includes a demo of the upcoming PS3 entry. And those who have already played the PS2 versions and don't feel its necessary to buy the hi-def ports, well, they don't have to! It's a no-brainer.
Anyone else think they should repackage Shadow of the Colossus with HD and the Motion Controller? I imagine it would be a lot of fun to swing your sword with a motion, and a lot more accurate for shooting arrows. What do you guys think?

Great idea! I'd buy that on the first day… OK who am I kidding? I'll buy it first day regardless of motion controls or not 🙂
Thats a sweet idea! doubt it will come true, but is awsome non the less.

I have never played those two games. They were always on my list to check out but I never got around to them. :/
In any case, I would definitely pick up revamped versions on the PS3.
Same here for the most part. I remember Sony sending me a demo of Ico and it was a blast, but I never got around to buying the game. I would definitely buy this.
same here, never played them, maybe i'll pick up the HD versions now.
I just recently picked up Shadow at my local game stop for 10 bucks… epic gameplay!
they are probably my two favorite games of all time. I have never played a game that had such an emotional element to it.
I'd buy it just to finally get a chance to play ICO. Have you ever looked at what used copies of ICO are selling for? It's crazy…
It would absolutely be a day one purchase for me, especially since I haven't played Ico, yet. And SOTC definitely would benefit from a face lift even if it were just a boost to the frame rate.
So many games from the last gen that I never got to play. If these came in a blu-ray pack like GoW is going to then I would pick these up as well.
@ outcelgeist,
What are those dolls called? They are made my whom again? So creepy, but so awesome haha. SOTC is one of those games I found on the PS2 recently after discovering how much praise it received online, I found BG&E as well and love that one too. I haven't played ICO yet but I'm sure its pretty good. I have been noticing how some of the box-art for the US games looks horrible when compared to Japanese box-art. Go figure I know but man, take more time on that, not everyone has to have action rubbish all over the cover.
It's a Brian Peppers doll. Brian Peppers is an old internet joke that started when someone saw a picture of him on an Ohio sex offenders registry. He's ridiculously popular on ytmnd.com. The doll is probably one-of-a-kind.
ICO and SotC definitely deserve the High-def treatment like GOW I & II. I will buy it for sure if Sony make it happen. C'mon Sony!!
I would like to play Ico and sotc since I missed out on them last gen, wish my PS3 was backwards compatible
i think i might be a little retarded, i dont know what ICO is…anyone wanna tell me
i might no what it is but the name doesnt ring a bell
Never played them and would love to have a go at them on the PS3.
I'd buy this. I'm playing SotC right now. It has a lot of jaggies. I want to play ICO but can't find a copy for less then $80. If they followed the footsteps of the GoW team I'd buy on day one. I never played GoW or any of Team ICO's games. A nice blast from the past for people like me.
You're truly missing out on an experience by playing SOTC before ICO. If you really want to play ICO I will let you borrow it…just give me ur address and I'll mail it to you.
lol seriously? here email me and ill send you the info.
[email protected] dot com
::emailing you::
Address sent.
MAILED
Sweetness.
Hope it comes with The Last Guardian demo 😀
I personally don't want a demo for that game. ICO along with SOTC are such engrossing games that I'd much rather experience it from beginning to end without a quick game play sneak peak.
Guys, wait. You didn't notice? Fumito-San said, " Iâve been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to OTHER PLATFORMS to reach more users"
Xbox?
i'd rather it on nintendo's duct-tape gamecube than bill's box, that'd just give them more material to work with.
This
Must
Happen!!!
