Well, they probably don't need one, anyway.

Gamers have come to expect playable demos of blockbuster titles this generation, which is why millions have been searching vainly through the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace in search of a playable demo for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . Now, we figured we'd be able to tell you that it would arrive a week or two before its intended November 10 launch date, but as it turns out, Infinity Ward simply won't provide us with one. Here's what they had to say at the studio's official Twitter page :

"No plan for a Demo before launch. The entire team is focused on polish all the way up to ship of the full game."

This sort of implies that they wouldn't be entirely happy with a demo that came out today, doesn't it? Of course, we have nothing but the highest expectations for this title but we were definitely hoping for a demo; titillating samples have really become a tradition in the past few years, haven't they? Well, it's not likely to hamper sales. And there's no saying a demo won't hit after the game's released, just in case there are a lot of people on the purchasing fence.

I have to admit, I haven't purchased many a game after playing the demo… do demo's do more damage than good.

I am currently playing through a raft of demo's such as Wolfenstein and Lost Planet 2… priority for me as a tech head is to see improvements in engine technology rather wanting to play them because they are titles I actually want in my collection. There are only a few genres that really interest me, and only a few AAA titles that are worthy of being bought.

I made some mistakes prior to 09 with my purchases, but not anymore, I am being very careful and really only want the best of the best for my collection…

A few actually do more abd than good, like Motorstorm 2's demo. But a few are still good.

Not surprising that there's no demo for MW2. They dont need to promote it.

Interesting, because Motorstorm 2's demo is what convinced me to buy the game. Lost Planet 2 is now totally on my radar as well.

In general though, demo's are usually turn-offs.

Yeah, I would really prefer a demo, this game still needs to impress me and tooting its own horn doesn't make it look any better. Generally demos do not do the game justice I agree but c'mon MW2 and IW get your heads out of you arses.

LegendaryWolfeh

Eh, don't really think it needs it, play MW1, that's pretty much what this game is gonna be, just better graphics and more weapons and slight changes in gameplay, but I mean the core game is pretty much probably the same.

BeezleDrop

Well that's unacceptable man, if it's similar that's quite sad. Lets evolve the genre instead of adding a few perks, weapons, and small maps, and finally implement trophies! Not required but a nice addition.

LegendaryWolfeh

Well when I say core I mean really the core, like all fps are fps at heart and such. Now when it comes to mechanics and maps and weapons and how fluid the game is, I literally have no idea, I haven't played the game and honestly for me it's a no question, I loved MW1 and I have to say it's one of my fav fps of all time (it was my first online multiplayer game ever [not counting mmo's]) so I have a bit more bias towards it possibly, but I'm guessing the game will probably be more of what MW1 was and added to it, making it better and better.

I say it makes sense. Why slow your production by making a demo? They should release the demo after the game is out like many games.

I agree. Why cut out valuable time to craft a sample of a game that you know is going to be worth it in the end. Mw2 is one of these exceptions.

I know what you mean, I don't expect you to shell out a hands on preview. I really enjoyed the 1st MW quite a bit myself. Its just after playing it so much(online) it got boring, I ranked up and I could hold my own so it just got repetitive. I mean sure, its bound to happen on any game but I just wanted a bit more diversity. What I mean is bigger maps, vehicles, and Tactical Destruction, which is Bad Company. I'm not comparing the 2 but I just had more fun with Bad Company, it was humerus and a breathe of fresh air to me. I have respect for IW's engine but it just lost its appeal to me.

I own both titles cod 4 and bad company and i truly spent most of my time online on bad company. I enjoyed both games and looking forward to cod mw 2 (demo or not).

Well, if you go to youtube, they have hundreds of videos of people in the beta (IW members + family only) and it looks pretty good.

I also spent more time online with BC enjoying it more. I will get BC2 and not MW2, I will prob rent MW2 as the single player campaign is sure to be fun, though it will most likely be a short lived affair.

It amazes me how many companies don't seem to grasp the need for demos.

It's like this… savvy consumers realize that game reviews are largely untrustworthy. They want to see and try the games themselves. That means videos and demos.

I don't care what your metacritic score is. Some of my favorite gems were heavily panned by game reviewers. And I've been disappointed by games the reviewers assured me were without equal. Game reviewing is broken.

Impress me with your demo, and I'll buy your game. Have no demo at all, and you're not even on my map unless a friend happens to get it and talks you up.

It its simply another game in a long running series that's been proven in the past what is the need for a demo? Demos are meant to give the consumer a small taste of what to expect from the full game. I only see an importance in a demo if it's for a new game with zero history.

ive noticed a trend this year with activision games.
they dont release demos for some reason.
i wonder why……………
prototype no demo.
transformers 2 no demo.
GH5 no demo.
and they all sucked!
may be thats why there not releasing demos because they dont want to scare off petentional customers.
i for one wont be buying this.
GOW collection (if its on ebay better be) and assassins creed 2 is all i need to keep me company in november.
O and R&C ACIT releases on november 5

I noticed the same thing. Not every dev is the same though. However, I'm starting to dislike Activision and their despot leader Kotick but the devs who are creating this game deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. Just take a look at some gameplay. Gets me pumped…

Shame their is no demo, we should get a little taster since they want to charge so much for this game.

On demo's I always wondered why their are about 4 different guitar hero demo's on the 360 but not 1 for the PS3.

Do we really want a demo of ice climbing? MW2 will sell based on hype. Like GTAIV, AC, FC2 and many others. Sold through the roof, but how many people were duped into buying something they didn't enjoy? If they were to release demos of these games the hype bubble would burst and gamers would be more inclined to wait for price drops.

Oh, and since they don't give a rat's a$$ about patching MW with trophies and yet still think they can sell it for 50 bux, why should I care about their new games?

Does anyone know if there is any truth in the rumour that CoD MW2 is the last CoD on PS3?

I got a message the other day on my PS3 saying that after MW2 it's becoming an Xbox exclusive?

Doesn't bother me that much as CoD gets boring after a while, so more of a wondering than an exclamation.

@Godslim:
PC. Gaming. Sucks?
How can you say this!?
If PC gaming sucked, they would stop making PC games entirely!
If PC Gaming sucked, Alienware would not exist!
If PC gaming sucked, Steam would never have been invented.
But yeah, your completely right!
Why would someone pay $2000 for a gaming PC that they'll have to upgrade in 1 year?
Why would someone buy a $600 PC that has the specs of the PlayStation 2?
The $600 dollar PC can only play Cubis 2.
But the $300 PS3 can play everything!
So basically, what's the point?

PS:
I'm buying my PC next month! 🙂
I love computers!

I'm not much into PC gaming either but FPS's and especially CoD seem to work and play best on the PC. no other shooter controls come close to the mouse and key board for FPS. Well maybe Mertoid Prime on the Wii but even that's not as good. I started out playing FPS's like Half Life and Counter Stike. Console shooters don't even compare. The only console shooter I enjoy at this point is KZ2. But other then that it's all console gaming for me.
