There was a time when you would glance at the top-selling video game list at Amazon and rarely find anything related to the PlayStation 3. That was over two years ago, though, and things have changed.
It's interesting to look at the Bestsellers in Video Games Amazon list now, which plainly features a strong showing on Sony's part. Halo 3: ODST unsurprisingly holds the top spot as it just released, and the legions of franchise fans have quickly responded. That was expected, but what's interesting is that the PS3 Slim – even after nearly one month on the market – remains high at #3 (while the Xbox 360 labors down at #21), while the Dual Shock 3 controller sits pretty at #2. Furthermore, impending blockbuster Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is in at #4 and even the Blu-Ray remote manages to crack into the top 15. Oddly enough, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is down at #10, but that's likely because the majority of fans have already placed their pre-order a while ago. Sony claiming three of the top five spots is a definite accomplishment, though, and it's worth noting if one has a good memory and can remember the dark days of the PS3's early existence. The God of War Collection is in the top 20, too, and you can expect that to rise as the weeks roll by; many people will want to play that GoWIII demo.
Sony needs to maintain this momentum through the holiday season; they snagged it with the price drop and introduction of the new Slim model…now they just gotta hang on to it.
Related Game(s): Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Those are impressive numbers considering people like myself just go to the store on day 1 to purchase a new title rather than pre-ordering it. For titles like Uncharted 2 though, I may have to try more than 1 store in the event of a sell out 😛
Buy it from Amazon!
Uncharted 2 went 1 up =P
No wait, hahah. Seems like the PS3 and Uncharted 2 are having a friendly Amazon battle.
I am completely happy with where the PS3 is. These are the games I'm expecting from a playstation experience.
Although I am disappointed at the motion controller. They better come up with a nunchuk-like add-on with the wand, because holding the dualshock with one hand hurts the wrist. (You should give it a try, its really uncomfortable)
that's great, it also shows how dumb Halo fans are 🙂
2 millions in like what 24hrs? All for an expansion pack, lulz all around.
Ah!
Sony is a leader, doesn't conform to whatever's out there. They did this with ps1, same with ps2.
They knew they had to go BEYOND the standard. (the original xbox tried to COPY the ps2 a year later, but copying doesn't hurt Sony).
^Very important points
By the way, the level of variety Sony offers in its software (AAA games) is the number 1 reason I stick by them.
Platformers like Littlebigplanet, Ratchet and Clank, and the dear Jak series are some great examples.
Then you got flower, Last Guardian
That's how it is, that's how it is

The PS3 was ahead of its time. It's nice to see it coming into its own now……and it looks like the 360's Halo crutch is still holding it up for now.
alrite wat exactly is Halo: ODST, is it a Halo 3 spinoff or is it a new game altogether?
please no ps3 fanboy-ism, only serious answers….
its a spin off.
the story is based on halo 3 but your playing as a different character.
a Orbital drop shock trooper hence the name ODST.
i would suggest renting it before buying it, the SP is only 6 hours long if that, and the MP is exactly the same as halo 3 but with a few extra maps.
its no where near worth the 60 bucks.
I've read that people are beating it in under 8 hours on hard. It started out as a 30 dollar add on game and then quickly turned into a full priced stand alone game. Makes you wonder how much content was added to the game after they decided to double the price.
Try 4-5 hours. If you're a Halo fan it's a no-brainer. If you're not or new to the franchise it's a rental at most. Half the weapons, enemies and piss-poor graphics makes it a "meh."
Maybe with ODST the Halo series will finally open the eyes of their blind faithful.
The maps weren't new, they were DLC already. They just tagged 'em on there…
ODST is an add-on for Halo3 that was expanded a little to justify a full price release. It's as if the makers of Wipout HD decided that the Fury add-on was sufficient to justify a full release on it's own, and charged full price for it.
Not being a Halo 3 fan or owner, I am not enticed by ODST at all. Some may say that I shouldn't comment beacuse I don't own Halo3, fine. But, I do question the value of taking what was to be DLC, and inflating it a little so it can be released as a full game.
It's getting great reviews and this is a good sign of sales but I'm still hesitant on the numbers in the first few weeks.
for the GOW 3 demo, is it going to be the exact same as what they showed at E3?
because 1 i seriously cant see the head rip getting passed.
2 i hope they extend it slightly im dying to find out what happens when kratos lunges himself at that titan.
i thought kratos and the titans are working together and helping each other, so why is he attacking him?
1 – He's been ripping off heads for years. It'll pass
2 – Full game is in march 2010
Last point that you didn't number – Crap always happens to Kratos and he rarely keeps a friend for more than two minutes.
i meant i hope they make the demo last longer.
i want to see what happens when kratos lunges at the titan, and i cant wait till march to find out.
I hear ya! I'm dying for that game too.
SONY is like a freight train. they just take a little bit of time to wind up to speed. its a slower gradual speed its hard to notice but when the stupid M$cow or the Nintendeer happen to cross the tracks….
just preordered GOW collection can't frigg'n wait.
I have a crew of friends that all have the PS3 due to me having faith in Sony and purchasing the system 2 days after Christmas back in 2006. We all really appreciate all of the functionality, free PSN, and now the variety of great games that are showing up!
I found it interesting that the Dual Shock has been in the top 100 for almost 2 years! That's way more than any product that is in the top 100.
People mainly buy controllers when they buy a new console. The other big reason is because their original got worn out. So either people are playing the crap out of their PS3's and wearing their controllers out or their is a ton of people buying a new one. (I know, stating the obvious)
I wonder if this is the reason GT5 isn't being released till march. Sure there was never anything official to say it would come out this year but enough comments from PD that it was practically ready to go made us think it'd come out before Christmas.
Now they (Sony) realized they have enough going for them at the mo that they felt they didn't need to release another AAA title just yet
interesting figures there!
This is going to be one hell of a holiday season!
