The news from this year's Tokyo Game Show hasn't been exactly earth-shattering, but one big update seems to be flying low beneath the radar.
According to this TGS video , Square-Enix has revealed details concerning the upcoming beta test for Final Fantasy XIV . They're not handing out codes immediately but if you want to be a part of the early action, you need to head on over to the FFXIV website and register for the newsletter; when Square-Enix is prepared to issue sign-up details, they will put them in that newsletter. After that, all you gotta do is follow the instructions and hope you land a position in what is destined to be one of the biggest online multiplayer titles of the generation. That trailer looks pretty damn slick, too, and even though we aren't big MMO fans, we'll definitely want to give this one a whirl. And just to clarify, FFXIV remains a timed exclusive for the PS3; it should come to the Xbox 360 and maybe the PC at a later date, but as far as we know, it'll definitely debut on Sony's console. And at this rate, it might launch right around the time FFXIII is expected to arrive in North America…
We'll have more game details on FFXIV as they become available but in the meantime, be sure to sign up for that newsletter!

Yup did this one already. Can't freaking wait, but Ben is this every region or Japan only (for the beta).
This game keeps looking better and better every time I see and hear about it. This will possibly be the first MMORPG I'll ever play… unless Sony can release their titles first.
OFF TOPIC: There's a ad on myspace for the 360 saying "XBOX LIVE" and below it it says "PLAY TOGETHER. . .FOR FREE" wtf? Is M$ making LIVE free or is there something I'm missing?
Can you screen capture it for us?
@Andy
I'm on my PSP so no I can't, sorry.
Oh okay.

Well you can still make friends and communicate with people with a Silver account, and that's technically free so yeah. you just can't play online games without a Gold
Legendary,
The ad specifically said "PLAY TOGETHER FOR FREE".
It's obvious that you can't play with other people on xbox live without paying $50 to microsoft.
It suprises me that no one is doing something about it to stop their lies. It suprises me even more that they're still in the gaming business.

I saw that too, and i clicked on it out of curiousity.
I forgot what it said as i looked at it a couple weeks back… but it either was talking about a game that they were allowing people to play free for a weekend of it was about the trial xbox live that comes with the system…
Something stupid like that
meh
Wel… I guess I'll see you all online then.
How much are the sub fees? Wuah wuah….
probably the usual $15 cdn if they want to stay compeditive. They should also do what WoW did, wasn't there something like …you could pay a bunch of cash for 6 months or 12? or something like that. 'tis a good idea me thinks.
Game looks great! I've never played a mmo I'll try to get into the beta.
Ooooh gimme gimme. I'm hungry for some more online FF. Some modern day online FF.
well since i beta tested FFXI and played it for 3 years i hope they remember my email addy and give me an invite. i would be so happy because i know i will be playing this like crazy. plus the fact that they reworked the whole leveling system and things and being able to play solo if you want makes things so much better.
FFXIV is gonna be the type of game you can play when you want, take a break for x amount of time, and then come back and pick up where you left off without feeling like you missed out. at least from the sound of things it will be like that
lol @ the eu version of the website
I bet they'll make us p2p for the beta -facepalm- ugh I wish this game was entirely micro-transactions..
what beta did you play that made you p2p it? lol
None, but I'm sure SE will come up with a reason for us to.
Will this game have an offline single player mode? Or is it online play only?
lol um FFXIV ONLINE. i would think that would give you your answer
I still think it should be called final fantasy online 2. I was a beta tester for 11 it was pretty upsetting besides the fact I got a free hdd and network adapter for my ps2.
Bummer… I'd like to give it a try, but I just can't stomach those fixed monthly fees.. Just seems like a rip off being charged the same amount regardless of how often you actually play the game..
just registered, thanks Ben.
This is really the only MMO I want to play. A Focus on story and questing instead of grinding. Thank you SE.
Monthly Fees? If that true I wouldn't take this game I prefer to use that money for more games.
Exactly
I laugh at monthly fees
Normally I would be in agreement. I've tried a few MMOs and they all boil down to grinding and other repetitive actions for nothing more than pointless leveling.
That's why a story driven MMO is very fresh and appealing to me.
They should just charge a small annual fee if a fee is absolutely necessary. The fees kept me from playing XI, they will keep me away from this one. 🙁
guranteed JapanONLY beta wise
any news on DC Universe?
ive been waiting for that for ages, feels like decades since it was first announced.
man it for reasons like this i luv being a sony beta tester!
Nice I will register right now
