FF Versus XIII “Information Blowout” Early Next Year

It's the PlayStation 3 exclusive that has remained under a frustrating veil of secrecy since its announcement. But we won't have to wait much longer for details.

As reported by SCRAWLfx , the latest Famitsu issue features an interview with Square-Enix producer Tetsuya Nomura, and he says an "information blowout" for Versus XIII is headed our way "at the beginning of next year." This will be the second title in the new Fabula Nova Crystallis series but beyond a couple extraordinarily sweet CGI teaser videos, very little is currently known about the actual gameplay and storyline. Nomura said he wished he could reveal more this year but he doesn't want to let the cat out of the bag until the developers have had a little more time with the project. PS3 owners have long since anticipated the full unveiling of this title, primarily because it really does remain exclusive to Sony's platform while the hotly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII is headed to both the PS3 and Xbox 360 (in North America and Europe, at least). We have no idea what to expect with Versus XIII but we have our expectations and hopes, as we're sure you do as well.  You've had enough time, right?

So come January, we'll start looking for this "info blowout" and we'll definitely cross our fingers for some actual combat/gameplay footage.

Hmmm not soon enough. I hope this has less of a Kingdom Heartsy feel and stays closer to the Final Fantasy feel. Don't get me wrong, Kingdom Hearts is great but it's not Final Fantasy.

You guys can thumb me down, but what the hell is so good about Final Fantasy, Taking turns to hit eachother like old wars where each faction would take turns shooting.
Ladyboys with amazing hair and compensating swords with lack of dialog vocalization and B-Movie cinema.

I just dont get it, what makes Final Fantasy so good? I have tried 7, Tactics, Every iteration on PSP and I still dont understand, can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or why these games are so well recieved? (Honest question I am not flamebaiting, I understand that it may be great games I just dont understand why).

What RPG's DO you like?

Don't rack your brain over it, it's perfectly normal. We are all different and have tastes that reflect that. Just like I don't see the draw of the Halo series. People love it, but I'm not one of them. Not because it's an Xbox game, either. I love my Xbox, just not as much as I love my PS3. 😀

Uhhh…considering FF hasn't been turn-based since FFX (almost 9 years ago), I'm not sure what you're talking about. FFXII was basically a real-time/turn-based hybrid and you can expect something similar – only faster and flashier – in FFXIII.

And I COULD go off on one gigantic rant about why turn-based is a superior RPG mechanic, but I have a feeling it would be lost on you (no offense).

You probably just dont like Japanese RPG's, no need to force yourself to. Differnt strokes for different folks.

I'll handle this the best I can. You are comparing an athletic game and an intellectual game, like Soccer and chess. Turn based is more than i hit you, you hit me, there are lots of intricacies in the system and all support the idea of strategy. You go into the battle with a strategy or you die. It's a thinking man's game and you have to like strategy to like it.

The ladyboy issue has to do with the typically anime inspired style, which isn't for everyone but is a very popular art style not just in Japan but all over the world.

The length of your given RPG gives you a chance to get to know and care about each character, their problems, how they think, how they interact with eachother. And like a great film, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, what have you, you want to see those characters through the complex and endearing story to finally vanquish the problem and witness the ending for the characters you have come to care for.

That help?

Now I'm not too sure about your age, but it does seem a great deal more obvious that younger generations cannot grasp why people find these games so engaging.
The thing with these types of games is that it allows a type of strategy that is not seen in too many RPG's lately such as Fallout 3, and the customization and battle systems are a great deal deeper than they may appear.

Many games now are more filled with action, and – in my opinion – are a whole lot less satisfying. I have never felt a greater sense of accomplishment completing a game now, that i have had when beating the final boss in say… Final Fantasy IV.

again, im not sure of your age, but with younger gamers traditional turn based RPG mechanics arent much of a hit because of the pacing or what have you.

Because we love awesome fantasy stories and strategic fights with hardcore limit break-type attacks.

It's awesome to just sit back and adventure. Not always being on the edge of your seat like in Uncharted or the Call of Duties on Veteran.

I imported FF7:ACC Blu-Ray and there is a 'trailer' for this game on the FF XIII demo disc. All I gotta say is..WOW! The graphics for this game look sweet as can be, since it's being created exclusively for the PS3.

Then again, the trailer just showed the two main characters talking and we all know how awesome cut-scenes can look compared to gameplay footage…

I have good knowledge about FFV13 ^.^, so if anyone wants to know, come ask me =D, I'd be happy to help.

I know things regarding what we can expect from the gameplay (but not specific mechanics), who the characters are, and I do have a brief/rough understanding of the overall premise.

For sure though, I do know the main male and female protagonist.

Oh, if I'm ever wrong in anything, my deepest apologies 🙁

announcements of announcements.
whats next?
announcements of when announcements of previews?
i mean seriously developers are only doing this to drag on the dev time and make it look like they have showed more than they have.
i dont understand why developers are so secretive of their games these days.
back in the day especialy magazines had info on games a year or so before release, and every month there was massive info and detail on a big AAA game.
and reviews of games months before they release.
none of this review of game released 2 months ago BS.
like the AU PSM october edition reviewing wolfenstein.
WTF?
i thought this was the october edition not the august edition.
why would i read a review of a game that has been out for 2 months?
mags should have reviews of games released in their month or later not 2 months ago.
