We all know about the many, many great games on tap for the fourth quarter this year, and most of us simply don't have the time or money to play 'em all. And if money is your primary obstacle and you've missed out in the past, maybe now's the time to turn your attention to those attractively priced Platinum Hits.
There are already several great titles in the lineup and for only half the original price, they're always great deals. And now, according to European site PSFocus , three of the PlayStation 3's best titles to date will be inducted into the illustrious Platinum ranks early next month: Killzone 2 , MotorStorm: Pacific Rift , and Resistance 2 . Now, it's only a Euro site and we don't have any official announcement from either SCEA or SCEE, but the only question we have concerns the date, which is September 2. On that day, you should be able to buy these three games for only $30 each. However, while we're absolutely certain all three have sold enough copies to qualify for the Platinum label, we can't say the second of September is 100% accurate without a press release. If it is accurate, that's great, because it means these three insta-classics will be available as Platinum Hits at the exact same time the PS3 Slim hits store shelves. Think about it: buy the new, cheaper PS3 for $299 and maybe two of those three titles for the price of one new game.
Yep, sounds like a great deal to us. We imagine other titles might soon be added to the Platinum lineup in the near future, too, so if you still need to play some catch-up, pay close attention…
I have to agree, I was disapointed with the entire "orange" look for Resistance 2. I loved Resistance
Fall of Man for so many reasons, but mainly because I liked how the whole game looked. Resistance 2 had too much color, but i guess I can blame that on the game engine since it's the same engine Insomaniac uses for Ratchet and Clank.
Resistance 2's story wasn't as good as the first. Other then that, it was better than the first in almost every way (online, graphics, and campaign).
It's really just opinion, but i think that resistance 2 was better.
MS:PR was fun until the 7th/8th bracket when the AI starts cheating, then its not fun at all.
R2 missed a lot of the great weapons that make Insomniac games awesome. They all felt really bland compared to R:FoM. I enjoyed the heck out of it though, and the online is still really fun.
I haven't played Resistance 2 or Resistance FOM, but they both look fun, so if I can get them both for $30 that would be awesome!
the main thing that pissed me off about R2 was that there was no 2 player campaign. I mean wtf is that? put it in the 1st but not the 2nd? Pretty stupid if you ask me.
I don't really like buying the platinum, greatest, or any kind of hits games. I like sticking to the original, unless they carry added features that the original didn't have
You don't like paying half the price for the same game?
Could be that he does not like the box. I don't like seeing the greatest hits logo at the top.
yeah that's it i don't like the greatest hits logo, but if if includes some DLC then I will purchase it
Ah, an aesthetic choice, right on.
Personally it could be a picture of a Helghast taking a dump on a dead marine, for $30 bucks that's still a steal. lol
Unfortunately (for my wallet), I've already purchased 'Resistance 2' and 'Killzone 2.'
But I'm not a big enough fan of the 'MotorStorm' series to pay full price for it, so perhaps now I'll get a chance to give it a go.
MS:PR was great. Still is and we still play it here. I have two of those games and yeah, my wallet is a bit bitter but oh well. That's technology for ya. Might have to finally pick up KZ2 even though I will get my arse handed to me.
You dont have to worry about KZ2 too much they try to keep players of the same rank in online matches together. Just there are a few out there that like to improve thier rank and score by starting over.
fluff you gotta get it at that price, even if FPS isn't your fave it is a helluva game.
MS:PR was a huge improvement on the first one, in the way of loading times, graphics, and computer AI, but the same sloppy control was still there, though probably intentionally, as it is an offroad racer. I enjoyed it, but like the first one, I couldn't get over the AI at higher level races taking themselves out of the race just to ruin your race. It is lazy programming that leads to AI cheapness being the prime indicator of difficulty. I don't think I raced a single time online, due to my frustration with AI in single player causing me to put it on the "trade in at next game purchase" shelf.
As for R2, in the long run, I found the single player campaign more entertaining and compelling than KZ2, though the online wasn't as engaging as KZ2. To each their own.
Killzone 2 will be great at $30. Although with Obama 30 is the new 60 with taxes.
Amen. Who ever believed this dolt would lower our taxes was kidding themselves.
I never played Resistance 2. I have to admit i was pretty disappointed with the 1st.
Thats funny a little of topic but funny.
Anyway, this is great that these games are getting lowered, with all of the new gamers who are going to be picking up the ps3 slim this will give them all a chance to get the great exclusives for $30.
Just don't be taxin my smokes anymore!
Three beautiful games I have
Wow, surprised that KZ2 got to into Platinum status so early
Usually it takes a year
Maybe its time to pick up KZ2 finally…
@ Jawknee couldn't have said it any better.
Actually I should have said, who ever believed the lies this dolt told us about lowering our taxes was kidding themselves. =P
No politics, would you kindly?

Sounds like a Killzone 2 PS3 Slim bundle on the way.
Too bad I already bought 2 of the 3..lol. I may get Pacific Rift, I really enjoyed the first Motorstorm that came bundled with my PS3. For 30 bucks the second could be a good deal.
Now a little off topic, and I don't know if you consider it news or not, but Ben did you see the patch that is suppose to be coming for SOCOM: Confrontation tomorrow morning?
It looks like Slant 6 is finally making the game the way it should have been when it released last October. (and new DLC coming shortly after)
Like I said I don't know if you consider it newsworthy or not, but check out socom. com if you want the full list of details of what's coming.
I already picked up MotorStorm:PR at Target for $15 and the Collector's Edition of Resistance 2 at Best Buy for $40. KZ2 is definitely on my "to get" list and its new Platinum price status will speed up that process.
CE of R2 is 29.99 at TRU now. In case anyone is interested. I'd get it but I got R2 on release day for $34.
Yeah, funny how they have to raise the price of some games when they make the greatest hits list.
I might get motor storm at that price, i need a racing game and its seems to deliver. I already have Resistance 2, very dissapointed there was no co-op campaign, especially after R1 did.
I'm not getting K2 purely becuase i have enough First person perspective games, 6 is more than enough for me.
I agree with the co-op campain opinion. I think that in resistance 3 they should include both whole new story campain and co-op campain. But just have like 4 player co-op campain instead of non campain co-op's 8 players.
@ Kevinater321
How could Insomniac even make Resistance 3, given the game's ending?
What do you mean? SPOILER it may have a different progaonist but there are TONS of things that are still not ansered!
A smooth move regarding KZ2 if you ask me. With Uncharted 2 sporting multiplayer, Gorilla Games probably wants to fight for some attention.
Wow, this is a win/win for Sony and gamers.
Things are movin'….
*continues to wait for Uncharted to make the list*
Really…
Shoulda gotten it a long time ago, now Uncharted 2 is about 2 months away.
Didnt Uncharted make the list already as the Greatest Hits? What's the difference between Platinum Hits and Greatest Hits?
godsman,
In EU its Platinum. In US its Greatest Hits
I heard somewhere that it did, but I have yet to see anything official, if anyone has anything official post it up.
Amazon dot com
It's GH and 29.99
edit: took out the link. I'm sure you can find it. 😉

@World
They announced Uncharted (and SOCOM) about a week ago, available this week.
I'm trying to decide whether I can wait until my birthday (2 months). I'll probably cave.

I believe Ben, that they are called Greatest Hits. The XBOX ones are called Platinum Hits.
pretty sure in europe they are Platinum, and this news comes from a euro site. fyi 🙂

No in EU, the Xbox ones are called XBOX CLASSICS
and PS3 ones are PLATINUM.
in north america, 360 and xbox "discounted" editions are platnum, and ps3, ps2, ps1 is greatest hits.
just a little clarification..
2 FPS and an arcade Racer, pff I shall pass.
oh well, your loss
In your opinion, correct. In mine (which matters the most to me) I'm saving 90 dollars that I can spend on games I actually use a console for.
