Over the years, we've seen Hollywood butcher our favorite video games over and over and over again. But as gaming becomes more popular (and legitimate in the eyes of the popular mainstream), filmmakers are starting to allocate more resources to such projects.

So the question we had for you is, will we finally see some top-quality and ultimately rewarding movies based on games? It seems like every last major game title is on tap for the silver screen, and we're all honestly hoping that something like the "Metal Gear Solid" film doesn't sully the pristine name of a legendary franchise. But while some of you simply think it's a matter of time, and there is hope, the majority of you simply say, "meh, it ain't likely." We've all had to suffer through too many of these abysmal films and it's tough to discount history. Of course, it tends to work the other way as well; games based on movies usually don't turn out well, either, as any critic will tell you. However, we've seen a significant rise in quality over the past few years, as certain titles like Kung-Fu Panda , The Bourne Conspiracy , and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs have at least been halfway decent. Perhaps that's all we want out of a game-turned-movie: something that's entertaining. We don't need an Oscar winner, but please, for the love of God… stop turning great game productions into trash, Hollywood.

This week's poll centers on last week's big news: the PlayStation 3 price drop and unveiling of the PS3 Slim. The Slim isn't what's going to launch Sony forward; it's that new and suddenly more attractive price tag. Since then, we've posited that this price drop was Sony's final hurdle and when a consumer sits down to weigh the pluses and minuses, most will choose Sony's machine over the Xbox 360 now. What do you think? Maybe the super huge blockbusters still need to get here first…? Or maybe you think Sony still needs to really push that price via an aggressive advertising and marketing campaign?

it would be nice to see some ads for the product i use, and that is true about anything i use. im not sure if they got a new advertisement department since the ps1 ps2 days but they need to do something. maybe now that they arent losing money on ps3's anymore they can put money into the advertising. even the crappiest movies run the hell out of some ads and make a ton of money before people know it sucks.

as for games to movies i am scared for some of my fav ones. unless kojima is involved in the mgs movie i see that getting totally f'd up. on the other hand with marvel now makin statements that they are done with crappy movie based games, maybe more companies will take that stance and make more quality movies instead of milking something that made some money.

we can dream cant we

When AAA games are respected and glorified, they all been reduced to sluts in Hollywood. Good grief, NO METAL GEAR SOLID MOVIE PLEASE! Damn, just thinking about it just give me the jibbies. You also have to understand MGS is of a more Japanese-humor type of game. But no, it will turn out to be pure Hollywoodesque-humor.

As dumb as some gamers are

The price drop will be in their faces now
To choose a console with no future games such as the 360 is a bad decision

And then you consider the psp and the amazing exclusive lineup.

You'd have to be a deep down hardcore 360 guy to pass up on a ps3.

Anyway, I just can't wait to get all these exclusives, it'll start with Demon's Soul and the probably the most beautiful game out there: Uncharted 2. Then it just keeps coming with Ratchet and Clank, GT5, and follows into next year HAHA

I don't care what people do, it's been a fun year for me with the ps3, this fall is going to be even better!

With the acception of Silent Hill (and it gets a pass only because the special effects were top notch and the director had actually played the games) Hollywood doesn't really care what the gamers think. If people keep going to see bad video game movies, then Hollywood will keep churning them out.

I do have hope that more directors like Christophe Gans who play games get more video game movie projects.

agreed… silent hill is the best video game-to-movie adaptation thus far… not only the mood and atmosphere but, a decent story to go along with the universe that the game created… sure it didn't follow the game's story but, it made it's own story based on the world of silent hill (with some splashes of the game story mixed in as well)…

i loved this movie… the only other video game movie that came even within striking distance of the original content was resident evil… maybe horror games are easier to do?

i give credit to hitman (i know most don't) because, they're were at least in the same ballpark… max payne completely pissed me off…

Generally the movies have to appeal to a broader audience so there is some sort of a profit to be made. Definitely excluding Silent Hill, because it was fantastic! Not only because I'm a SH nut, but it captured more or less the essence of the games.

I have faith in the Uncharted movie if some super douchie actor(MM) doesn't play Drake. I know Prince of Persia looks and sounds bad but I want it to be a decent film, the PoP franchise deserves to be portrayed the right way.

no no more advertising.
no more adds its getting to a stage that i dont watch TV any more.
foxtel use to be ADD! FREE!!!!!!!!!
i could actually watch a show, now its 5 minutes of show 5 minutes of ads 5 minutes of show 5 minutes of ads and so on.
and 99% of the time its the EXACT SAME ADD!
like today i was watching fear factor, 5 minutes into the show there was a 5 minute add break, twice within that add break there was a add for real insurance, than druing the next add breat there was ANOTHER! 2 adds for real insurance.
im paying for foxtell to watch the same add twice every 10 minutes or so?
and dont get me started on national TV its the reason i have foxtell, its either ALL news ALL sport or ALL soap opras/drama shows.
every channel has the same type of show on, like last night around 9 there was a choice of soccer, NRL, AFL, or cycling.
sport sport sport or sport?
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm real hard decision but i think ill choose sport.
back in the good old days friday, saturday and sunday night use to be movie night.
WTF happened?

Stop watching TV, it's an easier solution than you may think, ether that of build/buy yourself a MythTV PVR and it will automatically remove all the ads for you.

Even though I am sick of seeing great games butchered by Hollywood writer's, It doesn't really bother me either way. The last movie I went and saw in theaters was the last Batman movie. Maybe I'm getting spoiled with how great video games have become, but I'm starting to find that unless my media is interactive…I'm not as interested in it.

The only way this will affect me is if they finally do figure out the hybrid discs that were being rumoured and you can buy a game and a movie on the same bluray. That is when I'll worry about what Hollywood is doing.

They won't get it right because money is the motivation.

I swear it now, if hollywood touches Shadow of the colossus like rumoured, i will never spend another penny on hollywood and all there unoriginal crap.

Hollywood just cant make good and original movies anymore and my mind fails to be captured by them.

I voted for "they might get a few right, but they will be few and far between" (or something to that effect).

Without a doubt, most games with tie-ins to big budget films, are not going to be good. They are usually quick, shameless attempts to cash in on the name recognition. (GI Joe, Transformers,Iron man, etc)

However, the Wolverine game received favorable reviews… lol that's the only decent movie tie-in game I can think of though..

It used to be that we'd see a movie and say "It was nothing like the book." We'd still go to the theater though because we'd at least get to see some special effects and hopefully some good acting even if the story was far from the source.

Now we see a movie and say "It was nothing like the game." But we go hoping to see some great special effects and some good acting. Unfortunately for Hollywood the game already contained awesome effects and great acting so what's up on screen usually proves to be quite disappointing by comparison.
