Guitar Hero 5 DLC Not Backwards Compatible

It's not surprising to learn that Activision will have some downloadable content ready for the week after Guitar Hero 5 's release on the first of September.

But it may be disappointing to find out that such DLC will not be compatible with last year's Guitar Hero: World Tour . The compatibility issue between software and peripherals has always been a complicated one concerning the music franchise, but even if this isn't great news, at least we know the score going in. An Activision representative very specifically stated the situation to 1Up :.

"Guitar Hero 5 downlodable content will be compatible with future Guitar Hero and Band Hero games…however the advancements and innovations made to the franchise do not allow for downloadable content to be backwards compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour."

Now, before you start scoffing, you should realize there really are a few upgrades and enhancements in this year's Guitar Hero iteration. As the article went on to say, such advancements include "band moments, Expert+ drumming, and the new vocal star power." Also, bear in mind that any DLC you've already paid for is compatible with Guitar Hero 5 , and you will be able to "export" tracks from World Tour and Smash Hits so you can try 'em out in the latest entry. So basically, the upcoming DLC designed specifically for GH5 will only work with GH5. Clear now?

I still prefer Rock Band. Heck, they're still releasing new DLC now a days which is what GH should have done from the first iteration.

I hope music games go away forever.. Is hilarious how people complain about games costing too much and still they buy this garbage???. Besides the music on Rock Band and Guitar Hero sucks. Except the Beatles, Beatles forever baby

I for one, can't wait for GH5. I thought it was a given that the upcoming DLC for GH5 won't be compatible with World Tour *shrug* I started playing with GH3 when my brother in law borrowed the game and the guitar from a friend. I didn't even need to play it to see that it would be fun to play. It's nice to play a game (solo or with friends) and see your skill steadily increase over time. It also combines my two favorite things … music and games.

I just don't see what is so appealing about robot animations with -sometimes- decent songs played on a plastic guitar. Beatles rock band is the perfect example of how they are going to make so much more off the brainwashed plastic axe wielding kids.

so that means GH3 tracks cant be exported to GH5?
i hope you can but meh i wasnt going to get this in the first place, batman AA, wet (if it comes out here ^%$%ing better) operation flashpoint 2, and NFS shift is more than enough to keep me occupied for september.
plus im positive the fallout 3 DLC will be out during september.

i just cant bring myself to buy a GH game. Too many caveats, with EVERYTHING. this is a good example, even if this one appears to be somewhat valid.

I know its business as usual for activision, but still…

Wow Activision you never cease to amaze me. It's a shame a massive amount of people keep buying this stuff. It's only going to get worse.

Another good reason for me Not to buy another Guitar Hero game. It's like they don't want me to give them my money. Besides Kotick the DLC for GHWT was few and far between compared to what rock band was and is getting. Both Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises are buddy buddy with Microsoft now as I see it so I don't really have anything to buy. RB2 was delayed for ps3 and koticks comments along with ps3 avatars being the only ones not used for GH5. Sony should get some peripherals for SingStar. Though those games are released too frequently as well.

yay! activision releases such novel games that no one would ever want to play an older generation. These are not NOT cheap cookie cutter iterations of the same game. They are awesome!!!

DLC sucks anyway, doesn't bother me. I have my hands full with the hundreds of songs I have already in GH3/Aerosmith/Metallica & RB1/2, who needs DLC with that many songs??

I'll prolly get GH5/Smash hits/Van Halen really cheap somewhere down the line…
