GamesCom Brochure Confirms GT5 Releases This Year?

Last week's GamesCom event was a huge one for Sony, what with the announcement of the PlayStation 3 price drop and PS3 Slim. But we missed out on other big announcement we honestly had expected to hear: a 2009 release date for Gran Turismo 5 .  We want it!

Well, maybe it did get announced…but on a much smaller stage; in fact, on a piece of paper. As reported by GTPlanet , it seems that Sony was handing out a brochure for GT5 at GamesCom, and RiseOfGames snapped a photo of it. It's in German – the event was held in Cologne, Germany, after all – but we don't need a translation to know that "4 Quartal 2009" means Q4 2009, which certainly means we'll be seeing it before the year is out. Past evidence has also hinted at a December release for the hotly anticipated simulation racer, and fans everywhere have been pining for the perfect holiday present. In our opinion, it is indeed coming in 2009, and we expect Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi to make the announcement at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. That seems to be the correct venue and if it does pop up then, it will automatically make for another big Sony conference.

If, for some bizarre reason, they decide to make the launch date announcement before then, we'll be sure to tell you all about it. It would be a brilliant capper to the year, wouldn't it?

Launching GT5 on the tails of the PS3 Slim and major price cut would be a literal hat-trick of major announcements. I think that for a lot of PS2 owners looking to upgrade, a PS3 at $299 with a full blown version of Gran Turismo is exactly what they need to enable their upgrade decision.

So, if Sony are smart (and I think that they sometimes are) they'll find a way to get this into the stores in time for it to be purchased as a gift for that funny day at the end of December….

Either way, just announce the game and launch it already, I can't wait!!!

it'd be a great way to end 2009 and a great transition into 2010 which may become the best year of exclusives yet.

I'm pretty sure it will land this year, Sony has too many games coming out next year to push GT5 release any further.

Mag-January, Heavy Rain Febuary(rumored),God of War 3-March,and Final Fantasy 13 is being said to come in Spring 2010 so that's either April or May. That's pretty much has Q1 2010 filled with AAA games.(well except for June)

If GT5 is released this December I think it would help sell more PS3s than if it was released next spring. You know, because of that big holiday at the end of the year.

The actual date beyond which Quarter will come at TGS, as a nice way to add to their list of goodies for the show. See: win the show versus the competition.

They're probably just waiting for the Tokyo Game Show, the other really big games convention. Gotta' save some announcements for then, ya' know? It was made by Japanese Developers, so it makes sense.

Sony stole Gamescom, and Gran Turismo is like what Halo is for Microsoft(only bigger), so TGS is another one in the bag.

Im going to need a time machine to keep up on my gaming. GT on psp,GT5, Ratchet game,Uncharted2,Jak on psp,and many more. Not buying multiplatform games for a long time. Also I still need my 10,000 kills on Resistance 2.

Just remember PSX guys, no bragging about GT5 sales, especially if it overshadows Halo 3. Just brag about how it blows "the-most-definitive-racer this-generation" out of the water and into the sunset.

No doubt 'bout it now! December is the racing month!

Us ps3 gamers have been waiting for this gem since the ps3 came out. Finally we'll be able to enjoy the most engrossing and beautiful racing game out there.

Man, I just can't wait to dive into it and hopefully start a racing league with friends and such.

Long forum arguements with Shoota FTW.

I can't wait either, I told my friend we should make a n00b racing team on the game. Maybe we should join you and make a PSXE racing team! For drifting and hardcore stock car races (plus WRC and Race Car)!?

It won't be worth it for that 😉

We need all the issues ironed out in GT5 so it can pwn everything (on consoles [trying to keep the PC guys happy]).

I want in on this PSX racing team. Maybe have tryouts on the "Ring". I'm so pumped and ready for GT5 that I need to buy GT PSP just to keep me from going crazy. Good thing GT is going portable so like that I get my fix anytime and anywhere.

wait doesnt Q4 mean between october-march 2010?
because they were saying the same thing for GOW3 a Q4 release date, which is still technically on track because Q4 doesnt end till march 28th.

fluffer nutter
fluffer nutter

1st Q = Jan. – Mar.
2nd Q = Apr. – Jun.
3rd Q = Jul. – Sept.
4th Q = Oct. – Dec.
Twelve months in a year, broken up into quarters means three months per quarter. 4th quarter of 2009 starts in October and ends in December. Also, when talking about release dates of games, to the public, they reference the standard annual calendar, not the fiscal calendar.

@fluffer nutter,

I was actually going to post about the 4Q 2009 date.

It varies by company. Some companies have fiscal years (FY) that END in December (a calendar year) while others might have a FY that ends in March, June, or September. It all depends by company.

And no, not all video game companies use the calendar year when giving dates. In fact, many of them use the FY benchmark because they are a business and they have to report financials like any business; so they use the FY instead of the calendar year so they don't have two Q4 references out there (one for the investors and one for the consumer) that will just confuse people.

It all depends on when the FY ends.

When the companies talk about when the games are going to come out, to the public, they go by the calendar year. I have yet to see a company tell the public differently. This is why we see the for sale dates match up with the calendar.

they do that all the time.
sony have always been saying GOW3 will be out fiscal year 2009, before the march date was announced.
when 2K set there games back(bioshock 2, MP3 mafia 2) back they said that mafia 2 and MP3 will be out Q1 2010.
which relates thats why people were saying its still possible for MP3 to come this year, although highly unlikely.

Every where I go I can see that GT5 will release this year.I think it will release this year learning from the rumors about PSP Go that were true as will as the rumors about PS3 Slim so GT5 will come this year at least in Japan.

Any rumors about SONY = Over 90% reality! 🙂

I just hope that announcing the game so late in the year doesn't hurt it. With everyone pre-ordering now, it might get passed by from a large portion of people who have already made there buying decisions.

That's the main reason I think it will release in 2010. That way they can build hype in advance. I think it's too late to properly do that with a 2009 release.

Don't get me wrong, I would pick it up in 2009 if it does release. I just don't think it would be a wise move on Sony's part though.

if anything confirms a 09 release date its the statement stright from kotakus interview.
they asked when GT5 will be out, and were told shortly after GT PSP.
shortly is subjective, it could be weeks or months.
but it seems pointless to me for them to say shortly than release it next year, thats not shortly.
also it seems pointless to have connectivity between GT PSP and GT5 if ones going to be out well before the other.
