God Of War Pack Crashes This Year’s Holiday Party?

We all know that God of War III won't be ready to go until March of next year, so we've kinda put it on the back burner and turned our attention to the fourth-quarter gems of 2009.

However, it appears that Sony may be preparing a little surprise for all PlayStation 3 owners out there, especially those who were disappointed that GoWIII didn't make it this year. A reader has turned us onto MarkPlayStation's Twitter page ; this guy is supposedly a manager for Sony Mexico. And if the translation is correct, there's a very special package heading our way in December: this package will consist of both God of War and God of War II , plus a playable demo of God of War III . Yes, it's a Blu-Ray disc for the PS3 and it's very big news if true. The only bizarre part about this is that Sony hasn't announced it yet, and as this franchise has always been more popular in the eyes of Western gamers, it seems strange that Sony would announce this at the Tokyo Game Show next month. Maybe they don't consider it big enough for a show unveiling; maybe we'll just suddenly see the press release in our inboxes. Who knows?

But we do remember a survey earlier this year that asked gamers what they thought about revamped GoW titles…if we remember correctly. It's no surprise that fans of the series would love to be able to replay the first two stellar installments on the PS3, and that GoWIII demo is even further incentive. We'll see what we can dig up but in the meantime, keep your eyes and ears peeled…

Pretty good for anybody who hasn't played the first two games, wonder if both games and the demo would be on a single Blu-ray since it has enough memmory for them all.

If it is true I hope that they release the demo on the PSN also.

I would get this too, So far I have only played chains of olympus. (I was in a gaming recession when the first two came out.)

Are not God of War and God of War 2 both PS2 games? On a PS3 disc?

Really?

Or has someone invested the time necessary to port the games from PS2 to PS3?

It would seem necessary to do a port wouldn't it? Or maybe the PS2 emulation will be out by then 🙂

Porting a game from the PS2 to the PS3 isn't a trivial task, it'd be easier to rely on a purpose built emulator.

If my no b/c ps3 will play it, I'll be getting this. I haven't played any of them and this would be an excellent way to catch up.

Porting is such an ugly word for this particular story…I feel that when someone says port, it means bringing the game from a superior console to a less superior one which is not the case in this situation…perhaps the word we should use is more awesome-ified

Yeah I would get it, would be cool if they could brush up parts I and II a little to make them shine a little more before release.

GoW 1 and 2 would be nice on blu-ray but the demo would be something I would not like. I want to play GoW3 in its entirety and it would just piss me off that I would have to wait another 3 months before playing it.

GoW 1 and 2 would keep me entertained until 3 released though.

I want to play GOW III very very badly like everyone else, but I am also a man with traditions, so I really don't mind wait till March of 2010. Just like previous title, GOW I released on March 22, 2005, GOW II released on March 13, 2007, GOW:CoO released on March 4, 2008 and now GOW III release on March (16 or 23), 2010.

As for including GOW I and II, even though I already had them, but I don't mind if they put it together, so I might play them one more time.

I must admit, I haven't played GoW 1 and 2 – I am going through Chains of Olympus on my PSP though. Which is excellent game.

Thumbs-down? Seriously? For a statement of fact?

Here, give me one as well, because I too haven't finished either game.

I know. Shameful. I don't know why I was never interested. But GoW3 has sparked my interest. I've been thinking about picking em up but have been holding out in hopes of some compilation such as this.

This must be in lieu of actually giving us 1 and 2 in a delux edition of III like everyone asked for on that pack-in survey.

the actual GOWIII deluxe edition packed with GOW1 and 2 will be a better choice and more attractive to me. i will buy it no matter at wut price. lets hope that happens. 😉

This will be awesome if true, I hate playing GOW on my HDTV. It is an awesome game, but uggh

What the hell? This is one strange piece of news. If this is true then one of two things will also be true.
1. All PS3s get PS2 backwards compatibility
OR
2. The games are ports

One thing is for sure though. Being released on bluray for would mean this is not just some re-release. THIS ONE WOULD HAVE TROPHIES!!

well I dont know about GoW1, but GoW2 looks great on a PS3, one of the few PS2 games that really does look good running on a ps3.

dont get me wrong, PS2 games all look like they should, well mostly. But if you have ever seen Tenchu: Wrath of God on a PS3 then you know what im talking about when i say looking good!

personally I think both games will get a bit of spit and polish when released on that brd.

TheHighlander

@Dillon, I have a 60GB system with BC and without exception all PS2 games run as well or better than they did on the PS2. On an HDTV the games look better played on the PS3. Not sure why you think otherwise.

Jed

I think I heard the ps2 games dont look as good on the 80gb systems, but dont quote me on that

@Jed

The 80GB PS3 doesn't have the full PS2 chipset onboard, and uses both software and hardware to achieve backwards compatibility. It's only truly compatible with 80%-85% of PS2 games. So some games either don't run, or run poorly on the 80GB systems with BC.

1. Infamous
2. Valkyria Chronicles
3. LPB: GOTY Edittion
4. Uncharted 2
5. Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time
6. Modern Warfare 2
7. $70 worth of PSN cards
8. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2

I want this so bad that I would… That I would… That I would kill the god Zeus himself for it if it meant a HD upgrade with trophy support for GoW and GoW II the consider Zeus assassinated. The GoW III demo is extra bonus of awesome to me. lol

Alienange

I think the HD upgrade is a bit of a stretch but they'd have to implement trophies… wouldn't they? Like they did with the original Wolfenstein.

Might get this if the price is right… Just so I don't need to dust off the ps2 console cobwebs and replay the first two games next year before tackling the awesomeness that is GOW3

two PS2 games on a Blu-ray disc? how odd, i obviously as B/C is out the window they had to find another way to make them playable for the conection for the thrid game. If this is true, they'll no doubt release a pack with the 2 games and GoW 3, i dont have any GoW games, but that would certainly encourage me to get them.
