Dragon Age: Origins Delayed, PS3 Version Pushed Further?

Well, we never like to hear about a delay, but we're only talking about a couple of weeks and besides, it takes a little of the pressure off for October.

Bioware's hotly anticipated RPG, Dragon Age: Origins , had been scheduled to release on October 20, but now, according to EpicBattleAxe , it has been confirmed that Origins won't launch until a few weeks later on November 3 in North America (November 6 in Europe). This was revealed by Bioware's Matt Atwood and while it isn't a huge deal, the news is a bit worse for PlayStation 3 fans: only the Xbox 360 and PC versions will be available on the aforementioned date; the PS3 version won't release until "later in November." Now, the wording of Atwood's comment is a little confusing: we're not sure if he's only talking about Europe, or if the PS3 version is delayed in both regions. If it's the latter, it isn't necessarily surprising, as Bioware isn't at all familiar with the PS3's architecture; they often opt to support Microsoft platforms, as history has indicated. Still, one would've hoped for a simultaneous multiplatform release, just 'cuz that's what all developers do nowadays.

Anyway, we'll let you know about the fate of the PS3 version; at worst, we have to wait another three to four weeks. But on the bright side, it kinda clears the way for the likes of Demon's Souls , Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , and Alpha Protocol in October.

Could you say M$ had something to do with this?

Nah. If they wanted timed exclusivity, it'd be for a hell of a lot longer than a few weeks.

It's just Bioware not being entirely up to speed on the PS3 hardware.

@Ben,

It is not like shipping the PS3 game two weeks later than the 360 version is going to allow them to accomplish a lot with the PS3 version.

Exactly, what do they hope to get done if this is really just going to be two or three weeks?

The only thing I can imagine is maybe a legal problem with the licensing(maybe some music in game, idk)in the EU with the many countries having different music publishing deals and stuff like that and if it was a rival to Sony then PERHAPS this could mean a little delay but I doubt it.

Bottom line is I fully expect the vague "later" to grow and grow and grow-and after Bioware were all "oh developing on the PS3 is a breeze and we have no idea why lesser companies have issues" the other week. If they can't get it out simultaneously in this day and age-and esp with ZERO explanation-then the game, which I would definitely have bought is dead to me on both platforms(I could get it on either OR PC)as I won't give money to developers who discrimnate against any gamers and if one had to be delayed they should all have been, imo.

It just looks really shoddy and amateur and if they give no reason for it what else should we imagine? Plus, I've just replayed ME1 but this time on 360 so I could have my char saved for ME2 and, christ, what a difference from the PC game! If Dragonage is no better than that load and glitch fest(not to mention the elevators to maks loads as well!)then PC will be the way to go anyway and as they're not used to PS3 I can't see it being even as good! Well, esp not now that they're messing PS3 gamers about-it could be a real mess and they're hoping a crappy PS3 review of a buggy game doesn't impact on other platforms sales-if I'm not right why no further explanation from B/W?

I just think it looks very poor, that's all and with the timeframe mentioined I don't see another real reason, or not a likely one in any case.

Good question, though. It would've been just as easy to hold the release for a universal release.

Most likely: the PS3 version needs a bit more optimization (maybe due to Bioware's lack of previous experience) and won't be ready for certification (which apparently takes longer with Sony) before the 360 version. The same thing supposedly happened with RB2, though M$ did pay for some advertizing.

I can never understand how a few days or weeks matters to anyone (unless it pushes the release until after their birthday).

It doesn't affect me, since I'll be waiting for the complete (GOTY) edition, just like with Fallout 3.

Generally speaking you delay a product to make it better, not worse…

It does seem like there will be problems on the ps3 version, but you should have always been goin with Demon's Souls

Why? They're pretty different games. Demon's Souls is more of a pure dungeon-crawler While Dragon Age is story-focused epic fantasy. Personally I have always been more interested in Dragon Age. Which is not to say that Demon's Souls is a bad game but it's not really my cup of tea.

No like-minded PS3 fan should see this as negative news. They're testing you to see if you really are hyped up about Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls and the like. Besides, I can only afford 2 games per month if I were to deal with 2 RPG'S at the same time, I may go mentally insane.

The PS3 always get's a hand dealt this way, the 360 of a game will always release first but when it's a a PS3 game all systems gets simultaneous; Tekken 6,FFXIII

i mean they should release them all at the same time it's only fair, but hey they wouldn't know about that now would they?

Well it takes longer than 3 or 4 weeks to figure out how the PS3 works so I highly doubt that's the reason.

So has mine but aas an EU gamer I guess I can shove it where the sun doesn't shine as it isn't coming over here! Neither is Blaz Blue! And as a UK gamer I won't be buying MW2 unless I stick a knife in every gamers back by paying the extra that Activision hve put on it in my nation for NO reason other than to test if they can con eveyone next time!

Add to that the fact that we aren't seeing Yakuza3 in the west and I'm an unhappy gamer right now!

When I tried to import the Asian DS with Eng subs I got cnned as well! But if I want the game that I've waited two years and already payed for once(at £70 as an import)I guesss I'll have to again. Anyone know a really good export company in the US as the one I last used from the East was reliable up to last time!? Sucks to be a UK gamer these days.

I hope its just for the PS3 version in Europe. No offense to the Europeans.

This does put more focus on Demon's Souls and Borderlands and maybe even Alpha Protocol.

This is a tentative for me. I enjoyed mass-effect (just completed it today). I hope the graphics is an extreme leap forward though. They better have got their arse in gear learning the ways of the PS3.
