It's one of the most successful video game franchises of all time, and to make it even more successful, it seems as if EA wants to expand the potential fan base of The Sims .

According to a Gamasutra job listing , it's apparent that developer Edge of Reality is preparing to bring an installation of The Sims to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. They're looking for someone with console experience and they're not hiding the franchise name, so it's basically inevitable at this point. If you're wondering The Sims has never come to a Sony or Microsoft console this generation, and in the eyes of many, it's long past time for the series to make the leap, especially given the ever-rising popularity of consoles. With a combined PS3/360 installed user base of nearly 55 million, EA isn't about to ignore the possibility for jacking sales through the roof once more. But on a disappointing note, it seems that Sega has canned the other Edge of Reality project, Cipher Complex . As reported by GameSpot , Sega has evidently pulled the plug on the espionage stealth/action title, which is unfortunate. It was a cool idea, and one we would've liked to have seen on store shelves.

The latter isn't official yet, though, so there's still hope. And as far as The Sims on consoles…well, why not. It isn't really our thing – still a touch creepy, says I – but popular things sell, and that's that.

Well the Sims games have been seen on the PS2 and original xbox so it was just a matter time before they hit the next generation of consoles.

meh, never really been a big fan of sims, but my siblings have and I can never complain about more games coming, but I'm sure many other people will be happy that this is coming

I can hear the crowds of people not caring already.

Who plays the Sims any more? Considering the ps3 userbase is quite an older crowd i doubt The Sims will see much success there. Maybe its my skewed perception, but i always thought of it as a kid/young teen game.

You're not suggesting that those with lives don't play this kind of game are you? Older gamers of course being old enough to have a life…;)

Tell me I'm not the only one who would build houses full of traps and slowly kill off my Sims family lol…

Your not the only one, i took a fireplace and stuck wooden chairs in a square around it and trapped my family inside, and well, they died from the fire, cause the fire jumps from the fireplace to the chairs, and from the chairs to the people. Then the Grim Reaper showed up, lol lmao

It was never meant to be, just a fun and quirky game for children to pre-teen, thats all, it was never meant to be a serious console game, just a fun adaptation.

People who want it will play it. The closest i've come to playing sims was getting a copy of Sims 3 by accident from amazon. I sent it back though.

Hmmm, well the only reason i used to play The Sims was to cause catastrophes or put the move all objects cheat on and cause embarassing situations like being taken out of the shower and put ontop of the dinner table….

I just hope they never make a game the 'The Urbz', It was repulsive.

I loved The Urbz, its probably MY favorite iteration in the deries, it was really fun. You actually got to walk to places and do multiple jobs.

i hope it's a sort of sims 3 type game… i'm about tired of the sims 2, been playing that for years… i would like to try the new sims game but, my computer can't handle it… and now, maybe i won't have to upgrade my computer if they can release the same version on the consoles…

and think about it, with the way DLC is handled these days, i am sure EA is drooling over the possibilities of releasing their expansions the same way they do on the PC… but, over the networks… yea, it's a smart move on EA's behalf because, out of the 55 million install base, i bet there's about 15+ million sims players in that mix…

YES!! DO IT!!! I LOVED THE SIMS ON THE PS2!!!!

Just that they were al restricted to damn bungalows and it was annoying. I was recently wondering when The Sims would return to consoles, and now it may be happening.

😀 😀 😀 !!!!!!!!

This will be a fun rental.

I've always liked The Sims, but never enough to actually BUY it for PC. On a console, I can just rent it until I get bored with it. 🙂

Great news for people who can get into it, I just never could. Playing god and controlling a life like simulation is just odd to me. I have my own simulation from day to day to work on.
