It's a common theme thus far in 2009: if you're not one of the big boys, step out of the way and give yourself a chance to succeed at a later date.
According to ShackNews , Capcom has revealed that Dark Void has been delayed until 2010 "to avoid competition with releases of major titles of other companies." If you're not quite familiar with the game, it utilizes the unique concept of "vertical combat," in that you will fly upwards with a jet pack and deal with enemies on that vertical plane. It's a great idea and one we've been keeping a close eye on, but it seems that certain blockbusters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have scared off yet another promising title. The only problem is, we've seen a great many games disappear out of 2010 for this very same reason; one of them was Quantic Dream's hotly anticipated PS3 exclusive, Heavy Rain . It's certainly true that IPs have enough trouble succeeding without competing against established franchises, but perhaps this is the start of a troublesome trend…
On the other hand, it also means that the fourth quarter of 2009 isn't so loaded down with games, and titles really do have a better shot of success when they're not overshadowed. As of now, Dark Void is slated to arrive some time in Q1 2010 (between January 1 and March 31).
