We're still waiting on the North American release of White Knight Chronicles , but developer Level 5 certainly isn't sitting on their laurels.
According to RPGFan , they're already working on a sequel, although we don't have any details just yet. This is already starting to remind us of the Yakuza franchise; by the time we get one of the installments, the sequel is already available in Japan. In news pertaining to the original, Level 5 has also announced the second major update for WKC, which is known as the "2nd Wave." This lets players "freely create a world complete with NPCs and fields for him or herself." There will also be new items and weapons to purchase and basically, this update is for those who wish to "create a unique-looking character." All of this will probably sound cool albeit a little painful to RPG fans here in the U.S., who have to wait until next year before getting their hands on this long-awaited title. Still, it's great that Level 5 continues to make additions and enhancements and to have a sequel already in the works…? Well, that's great news, provided the original is well worth our time, and it looks like it will be.
White Knight Chronicles has sold over 350,000 copies in Japan thus far, and we've been hoping to see it hit stateside in January or February of 2010.

this is great news, but right now I just want WKC to be delivered asap, and before that my time will be devoted to demon's souls
You've gotta believe that a sequel will build on the first game. And what I've seen of WKC looks good as it is, a sequel should be very, very good.
Perhaps we all forget that FFVII wasn't the first game in a series, SquEnix had had chances to refine the concept and gameplay. By the time FFVII and then FFVIII arrived, they knew exactly what they wanted to do, and how they wanted it to work.
Maybe it's time for the lightening of success to strike somewhere other than SquEnix?
I thought FF7 and FF8 was a change of pace from the previous FFs? I started FF on PS1, so i never played FF1-6. But i could've sworn I read that somewhere.
They are, they're far better games than the earlier ones IMHO. I do believe though that neither would be as good as they are has SquEnix not already made several FF games.
So u think Lvl5 can pull it off? When the PS5 is out, WKC7 will be crowned the greatest RPG of our children's time?
Why not? No one would have predicted FFVII would they?
I would have, FF has been the hieghth of my RPG experiences since NES.
what?! the first games isn't even out in europe
I'm kind of relieved that WKC isn't coming out this year. So far, I count 4 RPGs I want to play this October. And adding WKC to the list would be just flat out outrageous.
Indeed. Plenty of RPG's coming out that will get my cash..
I still wish this game was coming out sooner though!
Heh, ok some may not find this amusing, but you'd have to just laugh if WC2 launched in Japan before WC1 made it out in the US lol. I'd seriously laugh at that one. I'll buy them when they ever come out though.
This game just sounds better and better. I hope they take their time and add as much as they can before it comes here
Wow 350k in Japan alone. Here's hoping NA and EU can bring in the numbers too. I want RPGs to be successful so there is incentive to keep making them.
350k in Japan for a console game is amazing. I'll bet it will easily break one million with US and EU.
You Americans will probaly get this before we get the first one!
Since we haven't got the first one yet, how do you work that out?
Didn't Level 5 say that they would continue to make games on the PS3 if they got enough support from the fans? I guess the fact that they are already making a second WKC means that they've done okay so far….Just hope they bring it here soon, there's so much hype around this game coming here that I hope it will still be as good as we're expecting when we finally get it.
Give me my NA WKC, i've waited long enough. This sick game of torture has gone on long enough:(
Woohoo more good birthday news, this week couldn't get any better 🙂
I just would like the first one please… like for this fall 😉
More of a reason to get the original!
Gosh…Q1 2010 for me is going to be like Fall for everyone else. I feel $300 lighter already…oh well, at least it's extremely unlikely that this and my other must-buy titles will be anything less than stellar.

im confident this will be one of the best RPG games and franchises of all time.
it just sounds and looks utterly amazing.
sequel? best news of the month.
Well though Famitsu only gave it a 29/40 rating(WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU FAMITSU!!!).
So I'm not expecting too much though I'll still expect a lot but not like the expectation of GOWIII.
Yeah seriously, i'm with several of the other commentors when I say, lets just get our hands on the first one and maybe we will get excited about a sequel….considering we have no idea if the first one won't be a BOMB. Geez, way to jump the gun developers!
