Don't be fooled by the controversial anime-style sexual content; there really is a niche JRPG beneath that titillating exterior. Well, kinda.
According to the recently launched website for Record of Agarest War , it is now clear that Aksys Games (publisher of BlazBlue ) will bring this title to the PlayStation Network some time soon. Developed by Compile Heart, the game has made the Internet rounds…based on the picture you see through that link, this shouldn't surprise you in the least. On the gameplay level, Agarest War does feature an interesting "Soul Breed" system that lets the protagonist create many relationships with female NPCs, and it's unlikely that you'll be talking business. This will probably be a large downloadable title for the Network – perhaps one of the biggest we've seen – as it is indeed a full-length title, not originally designed for the digital format. We're waiting on a price and date for North America, but in the meantime, we figured you'd want a heads-up on the matter because you've likely never played it before. Record of Agarest War is one of those games where you'll have to suspend belief (and perhaps morality) for a little while, if you're willing to indulge in some adolescent virtual pursuits.
Does anyone remember the dating side-quests you could do in Thousand Arms ? This is like that, only on a much, much more expanded scale…
Related Game(s): Record of Agarest War
I forgot all about Thousand Arms! That game was hilarious as long as this one has a similar sense of humor I'll be checking it out
I'll bet this takes an age to come to the US store and will NEVER arrive in the EU!
I'll get over it if it doesnt…
Hitting Europe as "Agarest: Generations of War" on disc on Aug. 21.
Fan service to the max!
Cue moral objections from the "won't somebody think of the children" mob.
Looks like a fairly harmless, frivolous and possibly fun game. Hope it makes it over here…
Japan has goodness knows how many games that use the dating sim theme, and then there are games like the Idol Master games. Cutesy characters and graphics combined with a healthy dose of fan service does not equal a moral threat to western civilization. It does equate to a lot of fun for those that play the games.
For a country that likes sex as much as they do you would think they would be at least replacing their population.
No, they really just like porn, thats the problem.
I'm glad this is coming over but i'm honestly tired of srpg's
I with you on there being too many SRPGs. But, I love SRPGs so I am alright.
That pic shown on the link to the website is hilarious.

It's a record of a war so do you fight anything besides female moods?
HA.
so is there sex in this game?
I doubt it, these games tend to be more about the building of the relationships and such. If there is I would think it will be implied, and nothing more.
Hmmm the description of the game which has the protagonist establishing and building relationships with various female NPCs sounds a little reminiscent of Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia where the protagonist has to build relationships with the Reyvateils. The Reyvateil are a synthetic race capable of song based magic, and the player must build relationships with several different Reyvateil through the game.
This sounds kinda similar in the sense that the player must build relationships to progress.
WOAH AWESOME!!!!
Man, I still haven't finished that game 🙁 I got the edition with the artbook, it's a great RPG, but someone stole my memory card =| and I don't feel like redoing everything I've already done because I got far T.T oh well…I know there's an Ar Tonelico 2 also, but eh. It was a good RPG though.
Well it couldn't be worse than a game where the goal is to hook up with underaged girls and then shoot yourself in the face with a gun to fight monsters.
Oh wait I loved that game
wtf wat game is that, it sounds freakin sweet i must play it
persona 3
I would be more excited if this wasn't an Idea Factory game…they're not exactly known for quality.
It's not an Idea Factory game
The game is by RED Entertainment (great company)
Well, according to Wikipedia anyway, "The game is a collaboration between Idea Factory, Red Entertainment and Compile Heart". So I guess we're both 1/3 right. But I thought Idea Factory was the primary developer.
In any event, while I'm biased against Idea Factory games it's a bias based on experience and review scores. I'm certainly not going to buy this without reading reviews but if it does manage to get decent reviews then I'll give it a shot. I'm always up for a good SRPG and the…suggestive elements don't bother me (I loved the Ar Tonelico games, after all).
^Aye, don't know what to say but to agree and hope that this game rocks.
I am only playing this game because I like RPGs and trophies…
And it's being made by the same company which made Thousand Arms!
Hoooooooooorah!
I'm so getting this game no matter what, don't care if it's good or not *raises fist in air*
Thanks for writing up this article, Ben. Even if not the greatest rpg, it's good to see more rpgs on the ps3.
You never know, just like Thousand Arms, a severely underrated rpg, but definitely one of the most interesting rpgs this Agarest War game might surprise us.
I'll say this ya'll should give Thousand Arms a shot, don't let the dating aspect drown your interest. If anything, what really matters in rpgs are the storylines and that game's got plenty of that. Hopefully Agarest War does too.
that pic= epic sexyness
I swear I stubbled across much worse somewhere in my latest quest of google
WTB news for Fate/Unlimited Codes =[ How come PSX missed the news from last week?! I'm so like, gonna cry. It's coming THIS SEPTEMBER on the PSN, for the PSP! -cries-
I don't know, Compile hearts isn't known to make the breast of games… BEST! Best of games…
*Cough*
Well, I'll just wait to see how this stands up from the crowd… OUT! Stands out from the cleavage… I mean… Never mind… I'm just going to go to breed… Er…Bed…

Umm, it's not really "light-hearted and frivolous," and saying this game gives you "fan service" is like saying poison will upset your stomach. It's an actual hentai game that was released for the PC with the explicit content removed.
Really I don't care about the "fan service," but if you are familiar with most Japanese PC releases, you will know that it is going to be a pretty terrible game.
Fan service is light hearted and frivolous. I'm not sure what your problem is, although it seems that you do have one.
I'm familiar with a great many things, one of which is that there are lots of distasteful games released both in Japan and in Western countries. If you think that Sony or Microsoft are going to allow anything like those games to appear on their console platforms, you're sorely mistaken.
Regarding this game, I have no idea what the quality of the title will be in terms of game play and story – it remains to be seen. However, AO (Adult Only) ratings on console games are effectively the kiss of death. So the worst that this game could be rated is M. If anything this game will be rated T for teen, and the content of it will have been toned down appropriately.
