It seems almost impossible to keep third-party titles exclusive to one particular platform for very long; in the realm of RPGs, we've already seen Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia start out on the Xbox 360 and then eventually make their way to the PlayStation 3. Might Square-Enix's Star Ocean: The Last Hope be next on the list?
Throughout much of 2009, we've seen more than a few rumors concerning the possibility of a port, but Square-Enix has never made an official announcement. To avid followers of the Star Ocean franchise, it makes little to no sense to keep this newest installment off a PlayStation platform, but we assume Square-Enix had a reason (a reason with lots of dollar bills attached to it). Anyway, it seems that GameFly now has a listing for a PS3 version of The Last Hope . Not surprisingly, there is no estimated release date and unfortunately, we can't seem to find another retailer that sports this same listing. However, it might just be that GameFly is ahead of the curve on this one, and maybe Square-Enix will make the announcement at this year's Tokyo Game Show. For my part, I don't really care; I played 20 hours of The Last Hope and while I loved the concept, the combat annoyed me so much that I eventually had to trade it in. There are better RPGs out there, certainly, but I also know that many people have had a great deal of fun with Star Ocean . …I just wasn't one of those people.
As for Tales of Vesperia , there's no word yet on if the PS3 version really is coming to North America, but we'd almost have to assume it is. This is another one we'll keep an eye on.
Ummmm….yay?
Please don't make such cliche and childish coments.
wow, freak out dude, and im the chidish one? and how is that comment cliche exactly?

@ Kokoro
o_O O_o
I wish I was speechless but this is what I had to say.
Let this be legit (crosses fingers)
It's coming sooner or later, the real question is when?
I might buy it when it comes out even tough the voices are horrible as long as the price is reasonable and if i don't have any games to play…oh and if i don't have any work to do 😀
I wouldn't be surprised if this were true. Gamefly tries to list new games before anyone else does and they've let the cat out of the bag early a few times now. This is great news for PS3 owners!

To be honest, I really don't care 'bout this game…
I've been waiting forever, let's hope it comes out this year.
Microsoft spent all these money for Japanese market penetration. After they take the first share of sales, Sony will come into take the real sales. Its kind of sad to see some PS3 ports to see just as much sales as Xbox after 1 year.
If they add some content and stuff I'll get it, but probably not at full price. Boy did SE miss the boat on their own product with this.
@mastifchild
Are you sure you played SO TET? cause I played it and there was absolutely no let down anywhere, well ok the item creation was a little bit annoying, but the rest of the game was phenominal, and Worldendswithme, you have said what I've been saying for the past year about SE missin the boat.
Of course Vesperia will come to America. I wouldn't worry at all, the series makes Namco money.
As for Star Ocean, they'll have to fix it up a lot…there's simply so many little hitches.
Kinda ironic how they're porting stuff from 360 to PS3 more than the other way around, yeah? Cause it's supposed to be easy to port from PS3 to 360, but hard from 360 to PS3.
On top of that, there are more people willing to pay full price for RPG rather than Xbox if it would ever be released on PS3 platform first.
I doubt they'll port SO4 over myself. As a series fan(one that wasn't even put off by the poor SO3 effort)I actually played the US 360 version at a mates on a chipped console a while back and it has got major tech issues, story problems and some dungeons turn into huge joyless grinds at times.
The combat's the star for me but if they find a willing audience, remember this will arrive in the west after FF13 I would think(if at all)for such a flawed game and after such a loooong wait too.
The initial, and unlikely, excuse that they began before the PS dev kits were out is gone(and if so how did ES get released everywhere before this got to the EU on PS3?)now but they'll really have to work hard and add extras to make it a goer on PS3. Reviews were terrible(esp in the UK at 360 only mags and sites)as well so will there really be a profit in porting such soiled goods?
Is that picture right???
I hope we get SO4.
I spent way too long on SO3 and then went overboard in time trying to get stronger to beat Freya.
No, sorry, that picture wasn't right. Seems it was incorrectly labeled in the database…
Anyway, fixed now.
yeah I remember this game was helping the XBOX 360 on Japan but suddenly Yakuza 3 just raped him…I dont care about this bastard son of the 360 I want my Yakuza 3 US version!!!

i completely agree with u, Yakuza needs to come!
Ive played the demo so many times.
Star Ocean 4 is awesome and it is my second fav. JRPG this gen after Lost Odyssey, I just love the vibrant color and typical classic JRPG world, have not seen much this gen. and I am dying for it. cuz used to see so much on PS2, i need more, 10x more of those this gen.

Indeed. I can't wait for SO4 either.
Wait, you love Star Ocean but hate FFVII? okay…
this is off the topic here but let me clarify
@jawkee
I dont hate FF7, that was not wut I said, I said FF7 was a great game, I played it thru 9 times; wut I said in the other posting was they use the same thing again and again to just make money, thats wut they are really doing; And it is exactly this business practice that damaged Square's reputation and compromised Square's recent game quality, they need to move ahead and bring out their real talents and focus on creating classic games just like the old SquareSoft days. not just use a legendary title to make money.
another point, FF7 is a great game, but so are many other titles — Chrono Trigger, Cross, FF4, FF6, FF8, FF10, even FF12, Romancing Saga on SFC, Vagrant Story, Dragon's Quest 8 etc ,they are all great games and most games are on par with FF7.
The fact that Square continues to pick FF7 to be its money-making strategy does not mean FF7 is above all the rest RPGs, and as time goes on, if you continue hearing only FF7, you had enough and get sick of it

Thanks for clarifying. I assumed you hated it cause this is the 1st ive seen youve said something positive about it that I've seen. As for the making money part, if people will buy it they should sell it. This hasn't hurt Square in my eyes, the M$ whoreing what hurt them in my eyes. They need money to work on games. If they can stil make money off FFVII just goes to show good the game is. The money to pay people to work on future FF titles has to come from some where.

meh……….
money grubbing SE just trying to recoup losses from ps3 fans
At least this way they will see that releasing an RPG on the PS3 is a profitable venture, and they don't require a subsidy from Microsoft to make a platform profitable for them.
I played through SO1 and SO3
Star Ocean 3 was a horrible game at least for me
the story was so fucked up
but it had some interesting features
can somebody tell is it still the same combat system So3 had?
Can't this just be a glitch? Isn't Gamefly a US only retailer? Why would they have this information that hasn't even been leaked to Japanese retailers?
You know what? I'm getting tired of seeing certain exclusives become multiplatforms.
"…while I loved the concept, the combat annoyed me so much that I eventually had to trade it in."
So is the combat for SO:TLH pretty similar to Tales of Vesperia then? Hack and slash with a story?
It could be that Square did not get a lot of sales for this 4th entry on the 360 and thus running to the Sony fans. I'm still vexed that we had to wait so long for this game, when most fans of the game own a Sony system. I'm not against any 360 owners or against 360, it's just that they could have release it at the same time on 360 & PS3. In other words serving two customers at the same time and not leaving your most loyal customer waiting. I donât care for this game no more; itâs now an old cold dish being reserved on a new plate while being microwave. They lose out on a potential first day buyer.
So you dont know that if square release this games on the ps3 the 360 would be death on japan a long time ago.
That I do know. Its the stab in the back I'm still feeling, not fully healed yet.
Think about this. SE probably made money on SO4 because of their exclusivity deal with MS which no doubt included an incentive to cover the loses generated by selling too few copies on the 360. Now Se (assuming that So4 does come to PS3) will have an opportunity to see how their game would sell on Sony's platform, without the subsidy from Microsoft skewing the numbers. I'd bet that with the PS3 sales included SO4 would have made money without the MS deal. I'll also be unsurprised if the sales of SO4 on the PS3 are not higher than the sales on the 360, to the point that the game would have made a profit on the PS3 without an exclusivity contract and subsidy. I'd hope that SE's business managers will see the numbers and understand their meaning, and start making business decisions motivated by the long term health of their company, rather than the short term advantage of getting into bed with Microsoft.
I thought of that idea as well and you make a valid point: it might not sell as expected, coming out so late. If it does come out I'll be waiting till its cheap. I got my RPG hunger fixed on other stuff and I'm quite full so far.
@highlander
could not agree with u more, excellent point!
If it does come I'd buy it again.
I'm not optimistic for the PS3 sales numbers of this game. Had it been multiplat from Day 1, I would have bought it on Day 1. Now, it's rent-only for me. And I'm certain most people see it the same way. Lots of fans of the series own both a PS3 AND a 360, and already bought it months ago. Many fans who only own a PS3 (like myself) feel jilted and no longer have the motivation to spend full price on sloppy seconds.
-Arvis
Well, that's exactly what I'm saying.
I hope we get this, the PS3 really needs a strong RPG. FFXIII is still a while off. I really enjoyed SO3 on the PS2, So i would like the chance to play the lastest one.
Personally I felt SO3 was a let down after the first two games had been so good and, to be honest, you'll prolly find SO4 a let down too.
Certainly it isn't the game to save the rep of the PS3 jrpg. I do not see a good enough reason for a port unless much is changed and added to this game.
I never got the chance to play the first two, so i was never very critical while playing it and really enjoyed it, i got rather addicted to it infact 😐 lol. actually i dont think i ever completed it, im somehwere on disc 2.
@ mastiffchild I strongly agree with you, SO3 was a let down for me also. I still play SO2 even now on PSP.
People have had fun with Star Ocean yes. But not many have had fun with SOTLH. This release will bomb.
I lost my hype in this game. Even if it will be released on the ps3, I don't think that I'm gonna buy this game. I'm more interested in getting Demon's Souls. Hey Ben, I have a question. What is your opinion on Demon's Souls, is it a good game to you?
