Naughty Dog: DLC For Uncharted 2 More For Multiplayer

Downloadable content has really opened a lot of doors to developers and designers this generation, even though some gamers still say it's an invitation to slack off on the initial product. For our part, it's a balancing act, and we're convinced that Naughty Dog will only make a great game better with DLC for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves .

As Gamerzines reports, Uncharted 2 Creative Director Amy Hennig said that DLC is in the works that will help expand on the game's multiplayer and co-op modes. Said Hennig in a GameTrailers interview at this year's Comic-Con:

"One of the great things about the multiplayer and the co-op is that it gives us great opportunities to expand the experience for players with downloadable content, unlockables, things like that. Which of course you don't really do with the single-player game that much. We tried to pack a lot of value into the first game in terms of unlockables, but with that online component the game can kind of keep growing, especially based on players' feedback too."

In our eyes, this is a good route to take. This means the single-player experience should be full and without much need of enhancement when the game first hits store shelves. That's the way it should be. But you can always improve on multiplayer modes with some future updates, and that's a positive thing. If you've already forgotten, Among Thieves is scheduled to arrive on October 13, and you can bet your bottom dollar that it won't need any DLC to spruce up a lackluster production; the DLC is just gonna be like little bonuses.

This game is going to keep me occupied for a long, long time.

I'm more interested in the single player mode and the story. Co-op sounds interesting though.

I never felt Uncharted needed multiplayer but whatever. I hope that SP wasn't shortened or cheapened because of the time spent developing MP.

Its worth it, you know it will be Ultima! Yes it has a ranking system, and depending on how well you do you can buy upgrades and weapons and boosters.

Hmph! Worth IT!

Funny how the DLC feels like its to superior to be contained in the original release, It will be like MGO, rediculous DLC, you shouldnt have to pay for such updates, i paid for the game already.

It really is amazing how people complain about having DLC. For one have you had every single thought about a subject at the time of learning about the subject? Has every idea you have ever had been fully formed upon having the initial idea itself? Did these ideas stay completely as they were when formed even after hearing other peoples takes on them?

I mean really, yeah the BD is large enough to hold the content but do you think that the developers of these games plan every piece of DLC out at conception of the game? Do you think they put the game out there listen to what people want in the game and then release DLC that was planned at the beginning anyway? Do you think that after hearing these ideas from gamers and after coming up with new things that they want in the game, going through the effort to write the code, going to lengths to test the new code, and then releasing it after all these man hours that they should just give it away and lose money on their time and effort?

Well, then I say to you, go to work tomorrow and do everything that is required of you at that time and then for the next month go to work and do everything else for free. Because obviously you should have done all of that stuff before you are fully capable if you are doing it at a later time and why should you get paid for doing something today that you could have done yesterday.

Yeah but the when the game isn't finished, they can still put it on the disc at least.

OK, so long as they don't forget that there are a lot of anti-social gits like me that don't enjoy playing co-op or multi-player and just want more play time in the game.

My feelings exactly. I grew up playing games that were just meant as Single Player and I still enjoy them today.

I find online to be quite annoying to be honest. There have only been a few times where others actually worked with me to accomplish goals. Wether playing COD4, Burnout, Warhawk or KZ2.

Mostly it's a big jumble of "everyman for himself" and "shoot your team-mate because it's funny" non-sense.

To you, TheHighlander, I say give online another chance. You will discover that in fact not everyone online is l337 nor will you be the worst player out there. Once you've tasted n00b you'll be hard pressed to not put in a couple hours a week of online mayhem.

That's what happened to me anyways… I used to look at those online trophies like they were the plague of the game. 100 online matches?? Win a round?? Nah… then you pull it off and it's suddenly one of the best online experiences you've ever had.

Look me up if you change your mind. I'll be the guy with the shot gun.

I'll be there, I may complain about it, but if I paid for it, I'm gonna give it a whirl, one way or another….M4 > Shotgun!

i got nothing wrong with adding online elements to the game via DLC… to me, that's what the DLC should be about… what i do have a problem with is adding single player additions… for those unfortunate souls who don't have the internet, they miss out on the whole experience…

and if by chance you do have additional content to add to the single player expierence, take a page out of rockstar games' book and offer it FREE… midnight club los angeles added a whole new area to explore and race through for absolutely nothing…

i know my ideas won't happen anytime soon since there are a lot of greedy pubishers out there… take mM for instance… i don't want to pay $2 for an add-on that gives my sackboy another costume to wear… that should be free… does anyone else agree with me here? i might pay $5 for the metal gear add-on since it's something they came up with after the game released but, $2 for a costume?? come on man…

Agreed, on the single player additions should be free. They also ought to be packaged on any future greatest hit version of the game.

My pet peeve on PSN titles though is the situation where you download a title from the Store, install it, crank it up and the first thing it does is download a new patch as large as itself. Hello, can we please put the patched version in the store instead of requiring new customers for an old game to download one or more patches before they can play?

Online play is one of the best things to happen to the Uncharted franchise. Let's face it, ND has perfected the single player game. The graphics the story the fun? It's all there. Adding what seems to be some very promising online play, well, who's going to stand up against this onslaught of gaming goodness?

I'm getting Uncharted 2 and ANY dlc ND deems worthy to offer me.

i haven't heard one person say anything bad about the online beta they had going on a while back… it was fun, and a great addition to a stellar franchise… i mean, it's no cheap throw-in like so many predicted it would be… it's a full-fledged game in itself…

my only complaint is with the co-op mode… too many enemies… maybe there's some settings you can tweak when the official version releases but, it was complete mayhem, enemies from every direction, forcing you to not utilize the great cover system… i'll still play it if they don't allow you to change anything but man, it was tough…

i cant get into online MP.
ive sunk at least 20 hours in R2 MP and atleast another 12 in KZ2 and just cant get into them as much as SP.
its really frustrating.
MP is allways basicly who ever shoots first wins theres no skill involved unless you can aim for the head verry quickly which in most games takes 2 shots anyways.
one question.
are we going to be able to have 2 people playing on the 1 system for the online co-op.
like you could do in resistance 2?
offline co-op should be a standard by now, if not AT LEAST allow us to hook up several controllers to the online aspect.
you can have what 30 players in a online match in most games so why cant 2 or so of those be on the 1 system.
this is why insomniac are my favorite developers.
they ALLWAYS make sure there game is perfect and every single game they make has at least 1 feature there last game dident.
why KZ2 does not have the same online features as R2 ill never know especially since it was in dev time for twice as long.

DLC being announced before the game even launches. I know its not for single player (supposedly), but couldn't you at least put it into the game before it releases?

I mean, come on, you've got two months left with which to tinker around in the game; more than an excuse to put it in.

I love ND, and I love Uncharted, but I don't want to end up paying $6.00 for a map that should have been in the game at launch. I don't care who the hell you are, everyone wants to save money unless they're totally insane.
