Madden NFL 10 is undeniably the biggest release of August, and although it's not a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Sony may have big plans for its launch…
Previously, we had heard a rumor that Sony might drop the price of the PS3 in accordance with this year's Madden mania, but now, that rumor has been tweaked: according to the latest Listen UP podcast, David Ellis says the much-debated PS3 Slim will hit store shelves alongside Madden NFL 10 . To be more specific, the two will actually come bundled together; feel free to download 1Up's podcast at NextGen News , and you will hear this claim at the 01:26:14 mark:
"It’s gonna be in August. Everything I’ve heard says it’s coming in August, it’s tied with Madden."
Sony is planning a massive 3-hour press conference for GamesCom on August 18 and Madden drops on August 14, and as further evidence, Ellis says this can be connected to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick's threat. Kotick said unless Sony dropped the price of the PS3, his company may be forced to stop supporting the system (a whole lot of hot air, as analysts have already said), but apparently, this is because the PS3 Slim will be tied to an EA game and not an Activision title. We're not sure how much water this theory holds, but it's possible. The more we hear about the PS3 Slim, the more inevitable its eventual existence seems to become…
But bundled with Madden NFL 10 ? We wouldn't have expected that.
Related Game(s): Madden NFL 10
That would be a cool bundle. Madden 10 looks amazing, but I think that the biggest release of August is Batman Arkham Asylum.
yeah if it comes with a (even small) price drop this would be the console to play madden on.
"Fat" chance.
i don't really like football, so no madden for me.
Totally agree. I'm ready for the next NHL game.
This truly is the smartest move to make, they can basically push the new asthetic look through really quickly this way. Plus the Madden fanatics will eat this up if its accompanied by a price drop. Very nice move for Sony.
PS3 is bundled with FIFA 09 that is not a PS3 exclusive so why Madden NFL 10 is a big surprise?!?
Microsoft has been bundling multi-platform games like its exclusive to themselves. Its not a surprise.
Sony really needs a bundle that appeals to the US. This would really do it. There's no reasons for anyone to not buy it.
Besides being packaged with Madden.

Hmmmm… Could it be that Sony will do a relaunch of the PS3 with the Slim model in the US, with a more US centric focus in order to drive that market more? They're selling pretty well at Home and elsewhere, but the US has been really sluggish for the PS3.
If Sony is making an internal shift and focusing on this issue, then a relaunch event with a Madden 2010 bundle would make a lot of sense in NA. Especially as this Madden really looks like the first version on the PS3 that can rightly claim to be as good as the one on the PS2.
I still have my reservations though. Unless Sony is taking a more US-centric turn, I don't see the PS3 slim launching little more than a month before the TGS, when the TGS is a ready made event for a re-launch since the gaming media will be there in force.
Of course, there's nothing to say that Sony couldn't pre-announce a Madden Bundle and then reveal at the TGS that it's a Slim PS3 bundle…
Good point. I'm sure for other regions they would include Fifa or some other popular title.
It would be great, I just hope that they are smart enough to include TWO controllers…
Madden is rarely played alone.
Madden does support free online play. Although nice thought, days of 2 controllers being included in a console purchase are long gone.
I doubt it. Since when do we trust 1up for anything?
Isn't this rumor like 2 months old? I know I read this on another site quite some time ago.
One problem with the rumor…a majority of console players aren't into sports games, so why bundle a game most buyers don't really want?
No, it's not the same. It was previously rumored that the PS3 would get a $100 price cut to coincide with Madden's launch. The rumor had nothing to do with the launch of the Slim PS3.
Madden is one of the better selling games each year, especially in the US. If you're trying to sell more units in the US, it does make some sense.
Oh, heres a link for the PSX story about the price drop rumor.

If the Madden bundle is so,
then Sony would do well to do a 2nd bundle with a different genre of game for those who'd rather not play any sports games like me.
Best Buy has a PS3 bundle with MGS4 and Killzone 2 for the same price PS3's are sold for now(I bought it).
Wouldn't a slim PS3 be released in Japan first and then moved over to the NA market? Some clown over at 1up thinks because PSP came bundled with a Madden that the PS3 slim will do the same? Maybe in a couple of years, but not now.
They'd be better off bundling Assassin's Creed 2.

im kinda done with Madden but itd be a cool bundle.
I just seen the halftime show and other features on IGN, and this change my mind about getting Madden 10 cause it was so poorly done and it is going to repeat itself every time. NFL 2k5 still remains the best football game in history PERIOD until Madden figures out how to come close to it lol!
Just can't see them bundling a PS3 with a sports game but hey U never know.
If sony does a bundle again they should do it with the remake of ff7
then sony will make alot of sells
but since they probably won't it isn't going to happen
btw my dad thinks the ff13 is just a bunch of pictures and they're not actually going to make another ff
Aw man! This is too early! I was expecting the slimmer, cheaper, backward compatible PS3 to be bundled with the GOD of War III. Anyways, lets see.
