Okay, no more speculation or rumors: Codemasters has officially confirmed the release date for the long-awaited Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising .
It could very well be the most realistic military experience you'll ever have, and the promising title will launch on October 6 in North America and a few days later in EPAC territories (October 9 in the UK). To celebrate the announcement, Codemasters has released a special "Armoury" video at the official website for the game. You will see a massively intense battle with a special Javelin anti-tank weapon, and you should know that vehicles will also play a major role in Dragon Rising . Sure, you can expect jeeps and tanks, but did you also realize that you'll be stepping into the AH1Z Super Cobra attack helicopter and the AAVP7A1 amphibious assault vehicle? Also, you should be aware that Codemasters has been calling this a "sandbox shooter," in that you will have more freedom that you might initially anticipate. Your objectives can be completed in a variety of ways, and you can approach them from almost any tactical direction. This makes us think the game will be like an extremely simulated version of Mercenaries , only with military teamwork. And if you're into franchises like Rainbow Six , you'll definitely want to sign up for the Operation Flashpoint army.
The good news is that this date is early enough so it won't butt heads with the massive blockbusters of November, so Codemasters has the right idea. Why challenge the big boys when you don't need to?

This is the game I am waiting for…
i loved the 2 rainbow games on ps3 so ill def be getting this!!
I loved the first 3 and I'm definitely buying this one as well.
Rainbow Six Vegas in and open environment…sign me up. I can't wait to play through this one. Let's hope for 10+ hours of single player gameplay.
It'll be interesting how it compares to ARMA2. Not decided whether to get this on console or PC yet.
I sure hope they don't dumb it down for the run and gunner kids.
If it's anything like the original OFP it really shouldn't be compared to rainbow. Maybe closer to GRAW if anything.
From what I have read, the player can choose how "sim" the game is..
If done right, it could be perfect.
