If you haven't gotten a close look at Final Fantasy XIII yet, you simply haven't looked. To catch up, you may watch a few of the videos we have, and there's also a long trailer available for download from the PlayStation Store.
But if you want more character and combat information, the latest issue of Jump magazine has you covered . The two characters who take the limelight in the article are Hope Estheim and Vanille; the former of which is seen during the introductory section of the game, and yes, he's in the demo, too. He uses a Boomerang as a weapon (kinda reminds us of Wakka's Blitzball weapon in FFX) and apparently, "holds a grudge against Snow for getting his mother involved in a major battle." We don't know quite as much about Vanille, who looks similar to Rikku, but we do know she'll use "a yo-yo type of weapon." We can't be sure what sort of special skills she has in battle, but you can bet that agility and dexterity will be a few of her strong suits. They also make mention of a new creature called a "Cie Corpse," which "can only be formed when an I'Cie fails at completing an objective in so much time" (whatever that means). We should also remind you once again that Lightning is the main character, and there are plenty of videos and trailers featuring the protagonist.
As more FFXIII details become available, we'll bring 'em to you ASAP. If we can't have the game this year in North America, at least we can read about it and drool.

this game will be sweet!!!
This game BETTER be sweet!.
I hope versus will be better. There I said it.
I'm so nervous about the release date for Versus. If it doesn't have a US release date withing 2010, I'll fall into a deep depression.
well i hope your ready to fall into depression 😛
I totaly agree with you dude the story looks more intresting as do the charecters i hope it is somthing like ffvii which is wat it seems like to me the nxt BIG final fantasy
Ever since news of FFIV, XIII has lost its flair to me. Doubtful, but any updates on IV?
IV or XIV?
Typo, my mistake… XIV.
Thanx.
I just hope the game doesn't lose its luster for being on both consoles and taking this extended amount of time.
I think it has, atleast in the playstation community. At sony e3 when final fantasy XIII was first mentioned no one cheered. But when other exclusives like mag, heavy rain, final fantasy XIV (console exclusive), and uncharted 2 were mentioned everyone cheered.
Even final fantasy VII got praised when it was announced to be available on psn.

I'm sure this game will rock but they are gettig lame with the names. Hope, lightening, snow etc. Meh.
I hope they can make Lightning an engaging female lead, I don't mind playing a female lead but to be honest I found Terra a little empty and Yuna was kind of an airhead. Gimme a female Squall type.
Yuna was sweet, innocent, adorable, loving… Sure, she didn't come off as "intelligent," but I don't think she came off as overly stupid either.

I'm not saying I didn't like her, I just hope this go round we get a deeper character. Lol, "I wanna go deeper in her."
I'm with you World. Come to think about it…Paine was like the only female character I think FF should have expanded on. She was like a female Squall. But FFX-2 was too light-hearted so no one noticed Paine's potential. I hope Lighting it cut from a similar mold as Paine.
I read in PlayStation The Official Magazine that you will only be in control of one character at any given time. It sounds to similar to The Last Remnant's battle system, which I find troublesome. If the battle system is like The Last Remnant I'll have one less game purchase and believe many others will too.

That was the Demo, Square has said in the full game you can control all the characters. I hope by this they didn't mean that you have to pick which one to control, some games shouldn't have AI for your friends or it should be optional like in Persona.
Actually, it was a live in game demo (the actual game) at Square Enix headquarters in Tokyo. So, I've sort of lost some confidence in FFXIII already. Also,I believe SE said it may change from the demo they released with the movie, but obviously it's going to be more like the demo than most people thought. Which really sucks ass!

You know who to blame for that.
The only next-gen console maker still using DVD9 and only has their 7 to 8 gigs to spare per disc?

I hate these characters (designs)
I just don't know what the hell they're thinking
Note: Not saying the game is/will be bad. Just hate the crap out of the character designs in this game, save for Lightning.
I'm going to be embarrassed for Square if the black dude turns out to be the stereotype he is shaping up as. See: any Disney animated character with a black voiceover. *shakes head*
I'll just wait till it's out and wait for you guys to tell me if it's good or or bad or what not.
First a bird in an afro and now a girl with a yo-yo? This is shaping up to be bizarro day at the school yard. I sure hope I can stomach this game after what XII put me through.
They've never let me down with a FF game in over 20 years. I don't see any reason to start doubting them now.
regardless, I will still pick up the game on day one and still think it will be the best JRPG this gen when it is released, along with v13
