If you're anxiously awaiting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and you'd like a little treat to tide you over, log on to the PlayStation Store or Xbox Live Marketplace today and check out Battlefield 1943 .
It's a downloadable-only shooter that has already received solid reviews, but if you're a tad stingy and require more proof of the game's entertainment value, feel free to download the free demo. Once finished, you'll likely want the full version, which will only cost you either $14.99 on the PSN or 1200 Microsoft Points on the XBLM. Two new modes are included in Battlefield 1943 , and up to 24 players will be able to compete in four new maps: Wake Island, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Coral Sea. Inspired by the critically acclaimed Battlefield 1942 , these maps have been revamped using the DICE Frostbite engine and they will let you experiment with all sorts of weapons and vehicles. In the demo, you will be able to examine the full scope of the game's arsenal and vehicle availability as you peruse Wake Island, and you can choose to fight on either the US or Japanese side. Said Producer Gordon Van Dyke:
"We are excited to witness the intense battles that are going to take place on these tropical Pacific Theatre maps, ripping them to shreds and leaving nothing but debris behind. Reliving these classic maps with the DICE Frostbite engine's destruction capabilities and full FPS gameplay ups the ante on what can be done in downloadable games. We're proud to be able to provide this experience to shooter fans for just $15."
You may be surprised at what you'll get for such a reasonable price, and with most of the year's biggest titles still a few months away, Battlefield 1943 might be a fantastic option. Stay tuned for a review; we'll get to it ASAP.

Nice! Picking this up today! Can't wait for BBC 2 but in the mean time this will do. Still play BBC everyday(trying to get 10,000 kills trophie)
it hasn't updated for me either 🙁
Dice sent me the email on this game yesterday, and from watching all the trailers, this is gonna be one hell of a game.
There's 5 awesomee trailers for it, 1 game trailer, and another one each for the 4 different maps, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, & Wake Island, & the Coral Sea.

One very important FYI though….
The 4th map is "CORAL SEA", which won't unlock until there has been "43 million community kills".
So certainly some to shoot for, huh?
Also, the "kill" count timer for it won't start till tomorrow, on FRIDAY 8/10/09.
All the info about unlocking the Coral Sea map can be found here

OOPS on the date typo,
I meant to post above that the "Kill" counter unlocks on "SEVEN"/10/09, not 8/10/09
That's tomorrow, Friday!
This looks very good.
Just a side note, you can get Battlefield Bad Company for 15.99usd on amazon. You should see what you get for that!
its only on the EU psn atm.
Is this better than Bad Company? I recently bought Bad Company. Meh…
love bad company.. you no like? thats a shame.
Bad Company had great sound. But the lack of a side arm, the clunky controls and the massive screen tearing ruined it for me.
Again with the screen tearing. It's 15 dollars! Pretty great game for what you pay.
"Meh"? You need to play on son. This game is brilliant. Takes some getting used to, but man, I'm tellin ya, it's Battlefield!
Enough stated.
love flying!!! im a freaking ACE man!!!!!
This it why DICE is gonna be around for a LLLOOOONNNNNGGGG time. We are witnessing the birth a great game developer.
its just superb… and may I add that for me its lag free.
yes, you may add that.
Frostbite engine= how other FPS games should be by now
Yeah, Battlefield: Bad Company was a great surprise whenb it came out! The Dice Frostbite Engine is very good. Can't wait to check out Battlefield 1943!!
Based on the demo, an excellent pick up for only 15 bucks.
Only problem is the flying. Does not feel natural at all.
Why did DICE not offer customize options on the control settings??
hawgwash!!! i love flying!!
