Perhaps everyone could've predicted the outcome of our latest poll, but we had to give other classic titles a chance against the almighty Final Fantasy VII , didn't we?
Not surprisingly, FFVII won by a landslide in our latest poll asking the readers to name their favorite RPG. Again, we apologize if your favorite wasn't on the list, but the most impartial way of constructing such a selection was to pick those that simply boasted the highest overall review average. Final Fantasy X put in a fine showing for second place, though, and in an extra surprise, Fallout 3 was a very close third. This only continues to prove our theory that the latest titles have more of an impact on our memories; we get the feeling that titles like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VIII might top Fallout 3 if we ran the same exact poll again in five years… But anyway, it shouldn't really come as any surprise that FFVII remains the favorite of the majority, and this should further prove that a remake would be an exceedingly good idea. Square-Enix could really rake in the bucks with such a project, despite the obvious – and totally depressing – fact that they have absolutely no intention to do so.
But this got us to thinking: next to FFVII, what's the FF you would most want to see remade in a spiffy next-gen format? We'll go as far as Final Fantasy X just because we can certainly conceive of a flashier presentation and even clearer and more defined character models. Wouldn't it be nice to see Lulu in HD in all her curvaceous glory? Then again, maybe we just need to leave the sprites of FFVI behind forever and watch the madness of Kefka play out before our eyes in a way we could never have imagined back in the early '90s. We'll be interested to see which gets your vote…
Why so little love for Chrono Trigger. ;~;
It's just not as popular. It's not like it isn't a good game 🙂
I attribute it to a the avg. age of gamers that frequent this site. I'm of course assuming.
I voted for chrono trigger and it is in my opinion the most classic RPG of all time, and it is a "text-book" RPG to tell what an ultimate RPG should play like

I voted for Chrono as well, to this date is my favorite RPG.
Playing FF7 now and I must say it will be a tie. There is something about the first RPG you ever completed…
Loved Chrono from the beginning, hope they release it for the PSPN and I will buy just to play it again.
I loved Chrono Trigger. But I think Final Fantasy VII sticks out more, being the 1st 3D RPG of it's kind. I hope SquareEnix does the right thong and gets the DragonQuest VIII team together and remakes Chrono Trigger.
I voted for CT, it was the rpg that was my gateway drug, lol. Been playing rpgs ever since.
What did you really expect Ben? I've been playing through the PSN version (not like it's different) and I've made it to the Gold Saucer with an almost perfect playthrough so far. I'm sure that'll change when it gets to Emerald and Ruby. God I hate Ruby. After that, it's Lost Odyssey all the way. Scouts' honor Ben.
if let me pick the best RPG this gen (meaning PS3, Xbox360 and Wii) then I will without hesitate pick Lost Odyssey. Nothing compare to its beautifully and sadly written dreams and the music and the epic feeling delivered by the game.
Is a sin to die and never enjoy this masterpiece. I haven't touch my ps3 since I bought it for the psp.
How is Fallout 3 coming in 3rd an "extra surprise?" That game is fantastic. If it had a better story line you'd have seen it at number two.
And no we wouldn't forget about it in 5 years because there'll be a sequel every year from now 'til then.
Well the Fallout faithful bash it for not being a true Fallout game and RPG fan's bash it for not being a true RPG.
Just cant wait for the DLC!
Is it just me, or did this recently made poll not have FF7 as an answer…they're getting hard now yay =P
Well, not that I'm angry though. I'll always love voting in polls!!

The article puts FFVII aside because it's just plain obvious it will win.
FFVI remake would be nice. The opening tune is so memorable. 😛
Aaaand, I'll repeat myself again: any "first" posts will always be deleted, and so will any replies to such posts.

Amazing that you still have to throw peeps over your lap! WHAAACK!
Can we have other genre polls too?
YUNA Wins 🙁
Hell yeah!
It's not in THIS poll, now is it?
*Just clicked* HEY! What was the exlusive you knew about that we didnt!?
Sorry, can't reveal it for a while. 🙁
Lol I asked about this a few weeks ago and was told pretty much the same thing, "not for a while."
After all this you do realise it is gonna be something of an anti-climax they are doing The Doors Guitar Hero or something like that for the PS3 exclusive haha
*low grumbling noises* I was expecting it at E3 lol.
In my book it's FFX/X-2, FFXII, FFVIII, FFIX, and FVII
^In that order respectively.
I love the combination of FFX and X-2. I'm so glad Square continued the storyline after X because it really needed closure IMO.
Agreed, Vertigo. 🙂

I'm surprised at how many people are voting for X for a remake. We're only one generation removed from the original game. I think there is far more to be done in favor of the PS1/SN FF games. I would be in favor of an X remake 10 years from now but there are plenty of other FF games with far more outdated graphics and lack of storytelling design that could benefit from a remake.
As much as I like FFVI, FFVIII would be a better remake.
That game's a classic!
Best FF out of the ps1 era.
Remake of Rinoa and Squall will be awesome, so as all the GFs in the FF8, just imagine the jaw-dropping summoning of Odin, Diablo, Ifrit, Shiva etc with 1080P on PS3.
Next pick will be FF4, greatest story of all. really want to see a this gen Cecil and Rosa.
Followed by FFX and FF9. Cuz their graphics are already pretty good, so to me, less desiring, altho it will still be nice.
FF5 is the only final fantasy I have yet to play, so no idea on that.
Why no love for VI?
ff6 is solid on SNES, but somehow i hv no desire to see a remake, it is good just as is in SNES form. lol just my opinion tho
my favorite ff in order..
(ps1 ff days) FFIX, FFVIII, FFVII (playing my second playthrough on ps3 ff7)
(ps2) FFX2, FFX and FFXIII
my first love rpg (Chrono Cross^^)
chrono cross is awesome. great music, very fascinating story and vibrant color world, one of the best RPG in PSX era.
Of course FFVI ! What are you guys talking about ? Name one FF game other than FFVI which has more than 20 something playable characters with awesome and engaging story, soundtrack and the most amazing villain in FF universe ever, KEFKA ! Not many villain get a chance to rearrange the face of the planet ( Somehow the heroes always able to stop them, but not KEFKA, no sir ). Can you imagine what good voice acting of Kefka gonna be like ? Joker, anyone ? That villain scare the crap outta me. Why so serious ?
what about fallout 3?
thats the only rpg i can actualy sit down and play.
all the others bore the shit out of me, cant wait till the DLC comes out.
and i wish they would put the cheats into the ps3 copy, i FINALY found the MIRV and cant use it because nukes are impossiable to find and extremly expensive to buy.
there was so much wrong with that sentence…Idk where to start.
I still see the 3 PS1 FF titles being pure perfection, though nowadays i tend to include FFX aswell, if i get my ps3 sorted out that'll be the first game i play again.
as for the new pull i'd say either 5 or 6. 8,9,10 are just fine the way they are. 4 has already been remade for the DS. I think FF5 should because other than FF3 it was the least played/know FF game, & when FF3 was remade it did it alot of good.
As for FF6, I think it would just be very good to see it revamped, it was a great game and i think it deserves it.
I think a lot of people can relate to the underlying theme of FFVII which is, rich vs. poor, have vs. have nots. That alone can make you love the game.
No it's not. It's about good vs evil. The class warefare was only a small part of it. It was more about the struggle for power and finding ones self. The "haves and have nots" part of it was abandoned before the 1st half of disc one was over.
@ last the best ffviii (imo ofcorse) will win a poll
but if ffvi won i would be happy 2
and i hope to god that squenix checks ur site ben cause if they decided to remake or hell even put the original ffviii on the psn
i would be hella happy
i never knew the end of ffx-2 cause i wasn't really bothered to finish it cause it was hella lame.
1-ffviii
2-ffx
3-ffvi
and ps. word of the day is hella .lol
never really finish a FF game or any RPG vigea game since im not a RPG fan but im starting to get hook to the the style right now im playing the legend of the dragoon(disk2) the Ill head to FF tactics, then Vagrant Story, and lastly FFX-2 thats all my rpg games

I hope square enix will do a remake and hopefully if they're decent enough will make it exclusive to playstation 3.

'Final Fantasy VI' is still the best in the series, in my opinion. But I would much rather see 'IV' or 'V' get remade, as those are the only ones on the poll that I don't really care to go back to due to nearly everything feeling so dated.
You wouldn't rather see FFVI in 3d with PS3-graphics, voiceovers, cutscenes, etc? I think it would be epic to hear Edgar or Terra speak out loud. So far, we've only heard freaking Setzer of all people acting like a dufus in Kingdom Hearts 2. He still cracked me up, though, calling Roxas "Rucksack." 😀
Does Terra speak out loud in Dissidia? I'd love to know.
-Arvis
I want 10 to be remade as its my fav outta all of em 🙂
Please stop the RPG/FF polls I know you are big fans, but I can't stand FF anymore.
Get over it. You sound like a narcisist.
