You know, there's a whole lot of money flowing through the video game industry these days. You probably already knew that, but were you aware of the numbers…?
According to a recent report by Global Industry Analysts , the worldwide software market will be worth nearly $92 billion by 2015. Interestingly enough, while the US and Europe account for more than half of the total game sales, it's the Asia-Pacific's growing market that will take the industry to heightened levels of revenue. As for the current recession, the report issues the following statement:
"While traditional consoles & PC games plummet slightly, due to global recession and products maturation, online and wireless gaming will continue to expand and offer opportunities for a large number of publishers, developers, and investors."
They also say the industry is "cyclical," which of course means there are periods of great profitability and periods of relative staleness. Listed in the report as major contributors to the expected $92 billion business are publishers Activision Blizzard, Capcom, Electronic Arts, SCEA, Square-Enix, and Sega. This assembly of powerful corporations hardly surprises us, but to see us hit that lofty number in only six years time…? Well, just keep buying games and perhaps it's more than likely.
Thats a lotta money. I couldnt spend that much in my lifetime …. or can i?
not unless your name is Bernard Madoff
Bernard Madoff lol good one.
Gee that's a big number. Then again World of WarCrack has goodness knows how many millions addicted and paying for their addiction on a monthly basis.
How much is Hollywood worth on a global basis each year? Why is it that games are still looked down upon? Hmmm….
Games are king, no doubt. I wonder how long it will take before they actually become mainstream though. Even though games outdo movies, movies and music are still the only thing talked about on entertainment programs. The thing is, gaming is hardly for children anymore, I mean they are included but most gamers are older now. When am I gonna turn on Entertainment Tonight and see an expose on which suit is being a dck and who has defected to the enemy camp in the ongoing console wars?
Maybe not as long as one would think with these numbers…
I'm wondering what the figures are on Porn. What?
What is it now and why is 92 billion significant as oppossed to 90 or 91.5
money money money money….. MONEY!!!!!!!
ya'll know what that's from 🙂

The console market isn't plummetting as result of the recession, its plummetting because its something that have been going on for years. If anything both the console and PC market are due to experience the very same economic turmoil that the arcade industry experienced years ago.
It being been going progressively for years and the recession is only making more real now.
@WorldEndsWithMe
Videogames already ARE mainstream. In fact its been mainstream ever since the 80's and I should know because I lived through that era.

They were popular yes but I would say they were part of the subculture rather then mainstream.
