Retail Prices For Band Hero, DJ Hero, Tony Hawk: Ride

Quick, hide your wallets! Lock up your checkbooks! Shove any loose cash under the mattress and put an elephant on it! …the pricing for this year's round of music-based games has been released.

According to GameSpot , both GameStop and Amazon have listed the prices for Activision's lineup of blockbuster music titles for 2009, and that consists of Guitar Hero 5 , DJ Hero , and Band Hero . The full set for DJ Hero will run you $119.99, and it will include that nifty turntable peripheral and be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PS2 (the latter version will cost $99.99). Guitar Hero 5 will cost what Guitar Hero: World Tour cost last year, but the price of the new Band Hero kit (including guitar, drum kit, and microphone) will be $10 more; it clocks in at $199.99. As a nice little addition, Activision will also release Tony Hawk: Ride and a Collectors Edition of Modern Warfare 2 this year. Ride boasts that innovative skateboard peripheral and will retail for $119.99 and the special edition of Infinity Ward's hotly anticipated sequel will hold a $79.99 price tag. We're still not entirely sure what we're getting for our extra $20, but we assume that details are imminent. Okay, who needs to take out a second mortgage on their home?

Of course, when it comes to fans of the aforementioned franchises, each and every year's sales numbers prove one thing: money is clearly no object. Don't blame Activision for taking advantage of that; it be called business .

Then you're calling capitalism "legalized robbery" and you should probably head for China.

nah, china is too far away ben! i don't need to move there as i guess half of the clothes i'm wearing right now were sown by some poor chinese kid working 16 hours a day for a couple of $$. not wanting to get into any debate here but certain lifestyles of the west leave me wondering…. *looks at fat bank directors who recieve fat bonuses for ruining my pension* – that for me is legalized robbery.

Capitalism isn't legalized robbery, just a mild form of slavery.

Maybe some forms of capitalism are mild slavery, but any other system is full on slavery. Live with it.

What gets me is that people balk at the $400 price tag on the PS3… but the very same people are entirely willing to spend $200+ for a set of cheaply made toy instruments they can only use with one single game until they are obsoleted by the next version of the game next year.

Seriously. I bought my PS3 when it was still $600, and it could have been double that price and still been one of the highest bang for buck purchases I've ever made. That machine does _a lot_ of stuff and keeps on providing the value year after year after year.

How long are those toy instruments going to keep you entertained? Heck, how long can you even use them before they break?

And everyone keeps whining that the PS3 really needs a price cut? What the heck purchase gets you more bang for buck than a PS3 at $400 already?

There is so much stuff people spend a lot more money on for a lot less pay off.

Foreal that's real talk right there some people are just confused, band hero is half the price of a ps3. The ps3 will be around for 10 plus years these games come out twice a year but they still think that $400 is too high lol.

Great point, SkantDragon. Those people always are willing to buy these Complete Band packages but not the PS3.

Of course, it's possible that you can use your old instruments and just buy the game.

Now a days you could probably find a good 0% 12+ month finance offer which makes it more affordable. I just don't see where something goes from 'ok' to 'too expensive' especially if you're comparing a game to a console.

The console is the better purchase/investment in the long haul as noted by others.

No SkantDragon, what's worse is that people want B/C back and still want a price drop 😛 You know it does come down in price again, it will most likely have 50% of the features removed. Hope you don't complain. I'm glad I saved up for a $600 system over a year ago. It's just sucky that it just now burnt out >< I'm still happy to pay $200 to get it fixed (when I can) rather than buy a new one without the features I want.

Not exactly. People that bought the 200 bundle are the rich ones that spent 400 on a PS3 already to play on. The ones that whine and complain about the price are the ones that couldn't afford neither.

You know, they say it costs Sony $440 to make a PS3. What people don't realize is that retailers want profits from consoles too. Sony probably sells them to retailers at no more than $300.

I'm done with the Hero games. Have been for a long time. I enjoy Rock Band much more plus they have better downloads and less releases (the Hero series has what, 6 different releases this year?). I've also been done with Tony Hawk games since the third game. They've gone downhill ever since and I'm not going to waste what will most likely be $140 Canadian on a fake skateboard and mediocre game. The only thing I'm interested in is the Modern Warfare 2 Collector's Edition because I LOVE the first game but then again, it all depends what the extras are. Activision is milking their loyalists for everything they have.

Well, exploitation is their policy.

Acitvision dropped Brutal Legend, and others, because "they [didn't] have the potential to be exploited every year."

I don't even want to think about all the money I've spent on Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Between the games, DLC, and the plethora of peripherals, it's got to be staggering.

But hey, I keep buying, so Activision keeps gouging. Good 'ol economics at work!

I tried playing the original Rock Band game about a year or so ago and just couldn't get a handle on it. Not sure what it is, but i definitely prefer the Guitar Hero games, especially World Tour. I was happy to pay $240 for my GH bundle. You only live once! Money isn't really as important as getting people together to play once in awhile 🙂 besides …I can't even think of what else I coulda spent that money on. Drugs? Fast food? Alcohol? I'll take my expensive games thankyou

I'll pass for the Hero titles, Ride sounds interesting, but I'd have to try it first. MW2 is where it's at… but why $20 more?

Actually, I'm looking forward to DJ Hero. I was n't at first, and I thought it was absolutely the WORST idea in gaming history ever, but after seeing how the game actually plays, I think that it's the only game out of that list I'm actually looking forward to(MW2 excluded because everyone's looking forward to that).

I am sure for some this will be fun, but really, I am just limiting my self to 2 or 3 AAA games for my system this year… only the very best that make sense to have in someones precious collection.

Q!

Well, at least with DJ Hero there's only one controller they can gouge you for in subsequent releases.

Hmm Band Hero… ahhh we already have that.. its called Rock Band. DJ Hero will suck and fail horribly. Nobody cares about another Tony Hawk game.. unless its in a wheelchair. (Tony Hawk's Retirement Pro Wheelchair..) Activision is so lame these days.
