To get you all caught up, Warner Bros. rescued Midway (or, to be more specific, parts of Midway), which meant that several splinter studios were still left dangling.
One of them was Midway Newcastle, a developer that still needs a buyer…and they must be a bit desperate, considering they'll be forced to close down entirely in less than two weeks. Therefore, in what seems to be an attempt to spur things along, Midway Newcastle has revealed Necessary Force , a new IP that has been labeled as a "gritty detective drama." You can view the trailer at the game's official site, and we have to admit, it looks intriguing. But is it intriguing enough to entice one of the big boys to snap up Newcastle and the project, all in one fell swoop? Or are we looking at another title that simply won't make it to the production phase? The problem with that video is there is no gameplay to be seen, so it's difficult to estimate how far along Necessary Force is in the development process. Obviously, whoever might be interested in the purchase will want to know the specifics, and that's when it's do-or-die time for Midway Newcastle. Cross your fingers!
We'll let you know what happens. Hopefully, some good-sized company will pick up the estranged studio, and Necessary Force will be designated a "go project." At that point, we're certain we'll see all sorts of info and details.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that Midway was rescued by Warner Bros. As a game design student and Chicagoan, I feel the need to whip myself with a wet noodle. 40 lashes ought to do it…
let me help with those lashes
*girly giggle*
They didn't save Midway Newcastle.
I feel very disappointed with this, MN is the only game development studio around here. It's about a ten minute walk from home!
ha, ive got lionhead, littlebigplanet people (cant remember the name) and criterion all within a few miles

Very jealous!
this game looks like it could have some potential. maybe sony should try to make this ps3 exclusive
I would buy it. It looks pretty smooth, and Iloves the flashes of a different view when he punches someone.
Also the blood splatter looks like it has a good physics engine in the background.
I don't think that was gameplay.
Not a bad trailer, looks intriguing. Would like to see some gameplay.
After viewing the "trailer" all I've got to say is, "See you later Newcastle."
made me laugh
but seriously, looks quite good, little bit like max payne mixed with driver and infamous (saving parts of the city that become good again)
only thing i don't like is that new york is getting boring now
It reminded me of an old PC game called Blade Runner.. gritty and dirty and full of questionable characters.
I would imagine though, that to be picked up it would have to be near completed and near perfect otherwise in this climate of intense competition what distributor will risk their money?
It looks very interesting. I'd buy it.

i'd buy it also
I'm beginning to get very picky with my video game purchases. It's gotta have a proven track record (example need for speed series, call of duty or Battlefield serieses) or it's gotta have good reviews (like um here), or it's gotta have a good demo. So far, a trailer is not enough for me. Not saying I wouldn't buy it, but I need more info before making that decision.
The trailer is pretty good, I like the art style of the game but like Hawkeye said trailers aren't enough to sell a game.
Not enough to sell it to a gamer so it's sure as heck not enough to sell it to a buyer of companies.
Reminds me of FInal FIght!!!
If this is a Beat 'em Up then I'm definitely interested!
Love the environments, they look very rough and engaging.
NOw give us 15 thugs at a time (and make it co-op) and then we're talking!
Beating up criminals alone = fun
Beating up criminals with 2 or more friends = epic!
hmmm, they are from newcastle…im just kidding, looks really good
I'd buy it!
Looking real good so far, & love the concept.
I hope someone buys them so this one won't become just another vaporware too.
Two weeks?! Nice knowing you Newcastle.
Talk about too little too late.
Wait a second. Does this mean no more Mortal Kombat… at all?
::sigh:: No….this is a separate division.
Seems like this will join the ranks of Duke Nukem: Forever, Star Wars: Battlefront 3, and Indiana Jones.
Looked like a good idea through. Has potential but I'll get my "dark cop" kicks off the new Max Payne.
BTW, the new Gameinformer has details about it. Anybody read it?
Battlefront3 is still coming…just you wait and see.
Yeah, I've seen the pics and read the article on MaxPayne3. IMO it pisses me off, I loved the first 2 and I don't like the setting or what they've done with him.
No, but if I get a chance, going to read it sometime this week.
Hmmmm, the good, the bad or the ugly?????
