Microsoft and Turn 10 are garnering a lot of attention – and catching a lot of flak – for promoting their upcoming simulation racer, Forza 3 , so heavily. We at PSXE already ripped 'em a new one (sorry, but richly deserved) when I called them out and Arnold stepped on heads with his follow-up editorial .
But now, according to HipHopGamer , EA is stepping up and proving to be equally confident in their promotion. As Arnold mentioned in his piece, EA's Need for Speed SHIFT is looking (and feeling) fantastic, and in all honesty, many industry insiders feel it holds more promise than Turn 10's effort. For the most part, EA isn't really into soapbox rants that are blatantly designed to question the quality of the competition's titles, but this statement was probably warranted:
"I’m very confident we have a better game than them to be honest. Talking to the press, looking at the nominations, that’s clear. So, I’m glad that they’re confident but I’m as confident as they are."
Apparently, these words were spoken by an EA representative in regards to SHIFT vs. Forza , and it's yet another testament to the fact that Turn 10 may want to quiet down and simply focus on the job at hand. It's not like we want any game to fail – especially when it falls into one of our favorite genres – but at this point, we wouldn't mind if Need for Speed: SHIFT really did put Forza 3 in its place. I mean, we all know that Gran Turismo 5 will do the job, but this would just happen earlier.
Related Game(s): Need for Speed SHIFT
Also didn't Arnold say that the people making Shift, well some of the anywayz, are the ones that make the uber Car Simulator for the PC?
Yeah, GTR2.
So then it'll be pretty realistic in some way, or are they going full out arcade with Shift?
They're going for realism.
But not as realistic as GT I'm assuming? hmm, well I might have to pick up Shift when it comes out then.
To be honest, I find it really hard to believe that ANY racer this day and age, is putting as much time into realism/attention to detail as the PD boys.
It's nice to see NFS, taking a look at a new slice of the racing genre. But, given the turnaround time in NFS games (they're usually pretty quick about their sequels…you know?) I can't imagine that they'd have nearly as much factory/certified car information as what PD's been doing for the past 3 or 4 years.
Not that I would object to it, I just don't think it'll be as detailed. But, still, as I said, glad too see their taking an interest AND putting pressure on Turn 10. Always healthy to have some competition!!!! (But still, GT5 is what I'm waiting for!).
Btw, what's this GTR2 game? Now that I've got a PC that can handle such things, I may just take a look at that.
Morne
Turn 10 called down the thunder, any embarrassments incurred are their own fault.
Indeed
Modnation will be better than Forza3
There I called it!
Split/Second will be better than Forza, and Split/Second is an arcade racer.
Anything is better than Forza3
Personally, all I need is GT5
For now I'll keep learning and perfecting GT5Prologue
If SHIFT completely owns Forza 3, it will become the premiere "weapon of choice" to use against xbots.
Ya but when it comes to promoting the product, Microsoft will stand by the side of Forza and Turn 10 as Turn 10 is Microsoft. They will not stand at all by Shift. They had very little to do with SimBins – Race Pro, which I must say blows Forza 2 right out of the water and out of the ballpark. Simbin are responsible for some of the best PC race simulators. They published GTR2.
Hope Shift is better. It looks amazing and is said to be a full Sim based game, whereas I feel Forza 3 will be 50% sim with 50% arcade added to it just like FM2. If that's the case FM3 will fail.
I seriously doubt most of you have ever even touched the Forza series. It may have tons of assist that you can turn on, but it is most certainly a sim when you turn them all off. The pure amount of information that each car is taking in while racing is insane. You can actually turn it on and see the data on the pressures being put on your vehicle and then use that data to customize your vehicle to run better on that track. That being said I think Forza 3 is going to put the pain on EA's game. Not only in sales, but in overall experience.
I miss the older NFS games. They just seemed to have more heart. My favorite has to be 2. They even had actual videos of the cars speeding through quiet countrysides. The McLaren F1………oooooohhhh yeaaaahhh!!!!!

nfs 3hot persuit and most wanted are my favorite NFS games.
If only EA hadn't used that douchebag for the SHIFT presentation at E3. The guy looked totally cooked… The Forza guys were all gung-ho, but the game didn't look as good as they were saying. More mouth than motor over there I'd say. As for me, I was the next Toca.
Like the pun about the mouth & motor.
lol. Did u think he was blazed? I'mma have to look at it again.
What I don't understand is that the Forza guys are saying our game is the best and the most realistic. That's fine, you expect to hear that from someone trying to sell you something. But in the same breath they talk up how you can rewind the race if you mess up and that there are driving aids that will brake for you.
That's rubbish, you can't talk yourself up as the best driving simulator and still have those sorts of things. If they try to make it more accessible while still giving a realistic experience to the car nuts then they'll end up having something that doesn't appeal to either group.
Rewind to replay is the biggest joke ever.
It's just an assist tool for the non-hardcore racing fans like myself
Yeah and me too… only I hate when the game plays for me.
Um…Didn't MS rant about the first FORZA about how good it was? And I believe the second one went directly in the trash…I don't see how the third iteration could be so much better
And FM3 made in a short span of just 2 years. And yet it is gonna be a GT killer. LMAO. Turn 10 must do some bad shrooms all day. That Dan Greenwalt didn't even look professional in his appearance or his attitude.
Hiphop gamer? really? Well if you vouch for him, then i will take his word.
I still think forza (ms' copy of GT)is a waste of time and not worth time on this site (but that's just me i guess!)
yea that's what the site's called. Catered to the ppl who love hip hop and games. Good idea.
Yeah, the HipHopGamer guy is really cool man!
^_^
i've been following his show for a while and in my opinion; he only looks for hits, saying whatever.his Credibility is like -100
As for coolness?!!! He reminds me of 50 cent; commercial hip hop

Nah…he isn't a bad guy..a bit cheesy but he says some good stuff. He is full of energy too. I don't mind him.
They lucky GT ain't coming out yet. Or else there wouldn't be any competition. Gran Turismo FTW 🙂
But I thought Forza 3 was going to be the definitive racing game of this generation?… So that was just more M$ hype? LOL
Does M$ have an inferiority complex? For awhile now their bark has been allot louder than their bite. Meanwhile Sony just lets their impressive lineup of exclusive games do all the talking…
I'm rooting (lulz) for SHIFT!
Forza still looks cartoony as Bugs Bunny.
And the Forza 3 will still have… wait for it:
Bar/graph indicators showing the car's Speed, Handling and maybe Acceleration etc.
That's a pretty stupid thing to do for a 'simulator'. I mean, seriously?
And in all seriousness I still play Gran Turismmo 4 and I believe it still kicks Forza 2's ass!!!
My neighbour has Forza 2 on Xbox 360.
NOTE: I'm not sure my Forza 3 info is correct, can anyone confirm it?
Sorry if I got the wrong details 😉
Okay so I just checked the conference vid for Forza 3 and it will have some awesome sounding things.
Like a video editor and the one thing that GT doesn't have and that's painting your car (NFS style).
Ya just sugar in the pot that's all that junk is. Video editor and painting isn't sim racing and you can see thats why they put it in. Too appeal with everyone. See the video where that tatoo artist was talking about Forza's car paint editor, and that other big guy that just uses Forza to paint and design cars and not race? That's turn 10's objective. Appeal to everyone. And that's not a bad thing, it's just bad when you're paint editor is more fun than the garbage arcadey physics in the racing side of the game. Now that's bad….

That's what impresses me with the team behind Gran Turismo. Kaznori Yamauchi isn't like Turn 10 and just interested in popping out a new game every 2 years. He's about quality, and being a perfectionist. That's why no racing game will stand up against the next iteration of GT5. A five year project with a absolutely quality oriented team, where quality comes over quanity of titles made in the shortest time span.
Who knows whether GT6 will come out on PS3 or will be spearheaded for PS4? It is quite likely just as the PS3 came out 6 years after PS2, PS4 may follow that same pattern.
Knowing that 360 is gonna throw another console at the masses in probably another 2 yrs time, makes sense for Sony to ship PS4 shortly after. After all the PS2 is still doing well and coming close to the 10 yr lifecycle as promised. PS3 will have it's 10 yr plan as well while the PS4 is out.
IF Polyphony Digital spent 5 years on GT5 (receiving their PS3 development kits a few years before the PS3 shipped), it makes sense that work in a couple of years time or less could start on GT6 for PS4.
That's why I love GT and PD so much more than any Forza game. They put out a near perfect product by taking there time. Turn 10 takes a measly 2 years and say they have the best product that is gonna own everybody. What a joke.
Notice all the PS3 quality exclusives are more than 2 yr projects where as all the big game franchises for 360 take no more than 2 yrs to develop (I.E. Gears 2, Forza 3, Halo ODST, etc)? Think Alan Wake is the longest developed title and it doesn't look any better than any stellar PS3 exclusive.
The SHIFT trailer was impressive. I don't recall seeing any footage of Forza 3 so I'm not making a judgment.
I hope Shift runs right over top of T10.
(To quote Hendrix's, "Crosstown Traffic")……
"Tire tracks,
all across your back,
I can see you "HAD" your fun…..
Agreed Forza blows, Shift will be superior

[OFF-TOPIC] – I don't know where to put it
Hey Ben and/or Arnold. Can you guys give your opinion on this:
Do you think the physics for Forza 3 will better than GT5 and SHIFT?
And what do you think the physics for Forza 2 compare (to something like GT5:P)?
I see a lot of people commenting on YouTube and other sites saying that GT is just pretty graphics and Forza has the better racing sim physics.
did you check out those links in the first paragraph, that should set you straight on the matter my man.
If a Need for Speed franchise does become a better game then Forza 3…Then there is something seriously wrong with Forza. No offense to EA but the latest installments of NFS haven't really been that great or on par to compete with games like Forza and GT. If NFS's first "real" attempt at a simulation comes out of the box and beats Forza's 3rd attempt, then there is no way that Forza will compare to GT5.
In all honesty, I would like to see NFS return to it's routes with arcade racers. The best games they ever made were the Hot Pursuits and Most Wanted. I'd like to see them again.
Most Wanted was def their best game post PSone
Need for Speed: SHIFT is being produced by the people that made GTR2 so this isn't their first entry into the sim world. They've got history and that is why so many people, myself included, are excited about this release. I've already pre-ordered it and cannot wait to get my hands on it!
You got it Ch1nook. NFS whaaat? They've been limping out of the gates these past few years. I thought the NFS franchise would be shut down for how rotten the sales have been. They come out with something better than Forza 3 and I'll be giggling like a school girl stuffed with brownies. Can't wait to see what happens.
I prefer midnight club than NFS though. 🙁 And GT over Forza!
i wouldnt have a problem with the way MS promotes their products if they could do it with out trying to tell us how terrible Sony is.
So basically, they are trying to say that it's going to be even better than GT5?
here are the bast racers in order:
1. GT
2. MotorStorm
3. NFS
4. Ridge Racer
5. Everything else
6. Forza
😀
All of you fanboys are dumb and annoying. How in the hell are you going to hate of Forza 3 when even the beloved GT5 creators were impressed by the game. Forza 3 will have better graphics (the cars already have more polygons than GT5 does) and better physics. Don't believe me here is a link, http://www.gamersreports.com/news/11022/polyphony-digital-devs-check-out-forza-3-at-e3/
that link told me nothing. Have you played Forza3 yet? No? Thats what I thought. When Forza3 and GT5 both come out THEN we can make an assesment. But if Prologue is any indication, then I am confident in GT.
"Forza 3 will have better graphics (the cars already have more polygons than GT5 does"
Lies. Anybody who knows anything about the games in question will know that this isn't true.
