We'll be 100% honest with you, because we're men at PSXE and we can admit when we're wrong: we didn't think inFamous would be the smash success it has turned out to be. But everyone, myself included, has really responded.
According to some numbers by VGChartz and the NPD, as summarized at PS3Center , it turns out that Sucker Punch's excellent new IP has made a huge impact on the sales charts. In its first week of availability, the game managed to sell around 176,000 copies, which easily eclipses that of LittleBigPlanet (110,000) and MotorStorm (107,000). Bear in mind, though, that we're talking about IPs so games with a number in their titles don't count. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots , for example, sold over 400,000 copies in its first week, and this year's Killzone 2 (and last year's Resistance 2) topped 300,000. But even so, inFamous has indeed made a tremendous impact and Sony should be satisfied with the early results. Although we can always scream about quality over quantity, sales numbers are the ultimate reward for a designer's hard work, and in this case, it's well deserved. There are a few titles on that list that we believe should've fared better, but have no fear, something like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is recognized everywhere as a class-A game.
But really, I don't wanna write about it any more. I'm on the second island, I've achieved Hero status, and the Warren is 60% complete. More missions to do…more missions…must go…

cant say that I will be buying it. I got the demo but it wasn't for me.
The demo really doesn't do it justice
I'd say rent it, then put judgement

I didn't try the demo but the game is definitely addicting as Ben says.
The game is a little repetative with side missions but what game isn't? I bought this game based mostly on the hype, which I don't normally do the only one I can think of being GTA IV but unlike the former… this one turned out to be a good buy well worth the money.
If you are unsure definitely rent it… or buy it used at gamestop and return it within 7 days to get credit back to buy another game.
Thank you. You're the only person in this world that agrees with me.
U should play the full version…
Yeah, I wasn't thrilled with the demo either, but I bought it anyway to get into the U2 beta. I'm glad I did. This game really is addicting.
Something about zipping across power lines, hovering through the sky when you're off the power line, doing a thunder drop and then blasting everyone away with grenades just never gets old. I skipped the demo, and besides some of the robotic talking animations, I LOVE the game. If not buying, at least rent.
I'm glad to hear it's doing well, they deserve to rake in some cash for this game. I'm on the last mission before I turn into a bad guy for a second run through.
How's it doing against Prototype? (Not that a multiplat is really a fair comparison)
Yeah……..and where's the prototype review? I'm sure it's coming, right?
don't know but I know Prototype is reviewed as a good game that could've been great. The graphics are sub-par. The city design blah. And the "pop-in" is so bad it effects the gameplay.
Sad, really. I really wanted this game to prove my doubts wrong.
I bought infamous, rented prototype and I thought prototype is in some ways half the game infamous is-because prototype only lets you be the evil bastard (more of an anti-hero), while infamous gives you a choice. That is a gross generalization, and maybe partly colored by the fact that I played infamous first, but I thought infamous was more fun. Now, I don't hate prototype, because it is addictive (I played non-stop for 4 hours yesterday-till 5am) – it's definitely worth a look, but the sub-par graphics, learning curve, confusing and weird controller mapping for some combos and the fact that you're actively encouraged to kill innocent bystander to get health and escape the military (I prefer the hero's path in a game :D) make me give it a lower grade than infamous.

I just got this game, Prototype and Red Faction: Guerilla at target buy 2 get 1 deal. And I bought Wolfenstien 3D off the PSN. I'm gonna have my hands full.
Dammit, I wish Id have known that was going on. I want red faction but don't have the cash right now.
hey ben, wanna rerate(is that a word?) infamous & give it one more review point to bring it up from 8.9 to 9.0?
I think it deserves to be up there with the elite boys like kz2,gta4 & mgs4!
My bro lent me infamous last weekend,i cleared the scum from the first island and a bit of the 2nd before i had to give it back 🙁
I love that game and i'm having withdrawal symptoms,need…..more……infam….ous urgh!!

Ouch, that sucks. It's like getting a puppy only to have it taken away three days later.
a puppy that shoots lightning!
like a puppy you adopt, bring home, craps all in your house and on your belongings, then escapes and runs away =D wait..no…that doesn't work here xD
inFAMOUS really has been one of the games i have enjoyed the most on the PS3. I actually bought a used copy from EBgames. worth the 63$ or 70$ for retail.
And the DEMO although it really didnt tell you how to play all that well i even found it to be a lot of fun and found myself beating it more than once.
I am really happy for the great developers at Sucker Punch. They created a fun and addicting game and deserve all of the cred in the world. They deserve some vacation and time so they can feel rested and ready for some Sly cooper 4(hopefully).
Wait till the ending, it's pure win. After beating it on good, i rushed back in for my helping of evil with a side of hard and it was definitely a challenge. Well worth the price:)
Hah, love what a little marketing can do eh, I have seen commercials non-stop for this and now hopefully Sony will start doing some bigger marketing schemes 😛
I know, I thought I was in the twilight zone seeing all these commercials for a PS3 game.
inFamous is such a solid IP. I really am impressed with the interaction between the people just walking around and the main charter. I usually don't care for most sandbox games , but Sucker Punch has something special on their hands. I totally get sucked in for long gaming session every time I start to play this. Congrats to Sucker Punch, because it was well earned!

I own it, t I fully support games of this type. I just hope next time Sony doesn't rush this game because there are a few glitches in the game and the graphics could have been a little more refined.
…wah?
Use your whoosh noises King James!
WHOOOSHH!!!!
I could honestly tell you that I haven't played a open world game to date that didn't have glitches. So far the game that I have played this gen with the most glitches was GTAIV but it's understandable for these type of games. So I don't really know the purpose of your whining.
I found a couple, but thought they were hilarious and wouldn't change the experience I had with them.
You know what I'm talking about King.
I know that Sucker Punch did take the time to refine and touch-up the game 4-5 months ago. I know Arnold (or maybe Ben) pointed that the controls and the visuals needed it when they did the preview. Which did get addressed. I know that sandbox games have small bug/glitches and not the best graphics.
I guess that theres a glitch or sum'en that annoys you to the point that you had to knock the game. What was it? Either that or you're a natural skeptic/pessimist and nic-pick at everything.
You're not talking about the climbing mechanic? And how it seems like Cole sticks to ANYTHING at times, are u?

No no, I'm not that type of person! Believe me when FF comes out I will praise it as if it's my son playing some sport (I don't have a son).
In terms of Infamous several times I got stuck on the corner of buildings and once I fell through the ground. On top of that was the pop in. I know these aren't big issues but when I find out from several sources that Sony rushed the game by a couple months I tend to believe a few of these complaints could have been addressed. They didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the game but still it is a minor gripe.

i havent agreed with Vertigo much but i have noticed the bugs as well. Sometimes youll get stuck inside a building then the game will toss you out. Its weird. But their minor and far and in between. it didnt hurt my experiece with the game at all.
Yes, I've also noticed bugs, particularly some clipping issues between characters and environments. Citizens dropping to their knees in despair, but their head goes straight through a railing/wall. I've also had buildings clip when I'm climbing and try to look at the reaper blasting me from behind.
…that didn't come out right.
@vertigo
Haven't gotten stuck in a building or underground yet. Although I do remember GTA4 having similar glitches. Maybe they'll fix it with a patch, hopefully.
I've had the game hang on me about 7 times till now (I'm in the last island now) – had to reboot my ps3 to fix it. I've also seen all the weird graphical glitches mentioned here. It was annoying but overall still didn't detract from the fun I was having.
Glad to see that the game is doing pretty good already. I just can't stop playing it myself. I'm a little stuck though cause I'm only 2 quests from beating it on my good guy play through and I have 4 shards to go. I really have enjoyed it and I'm definately going to play through at least one more time. I just don't want to have to find them all again.
Just beat the game with full Hero karma (amazing ending; the sequel cannot come sooner). Cant wait to replay with Infamous intentions.
PS: Did anyone see the new EA sports commercial during The NBA Finals? I was amazed they used the PS3 to help promote their new titles. Thats what real marketing is.
I was too busy yelling at Gasol. I really don't like him.
I noticed that too. And thats the same one they showed at EA's E3 conference. I didn't know that they would actually air it on the NBA Finals though. THAT IS MARKETING!
I was kinda getting annoyed by all those random Xbox controllers in commercials, TV shows, movies, etc.
I would always ask, "Where's the PS3 controller?"
I was considering buying this game earlier this week, but I ended up getting Assassin's Creed instead. I think the $29.99 Greatest Hits price was what swayed me, but I'll probably end up buying inFamous here before too long anyways.
U just wasted $30 there, buddy. Thank Ubisoft for fooling you.
Like me no when the game starts to get repetitive and boring.

AC is one of the most overrated games this generation IMO. I played it for 3 hours and never played it again. Thank god it was my friends copy.
I have to agree. AC is quite lame. I couldnt quite get why they chose a lame "hip-hop" character design for what ever his name was when he wasnt traveling in time. lol AC sucks.
AC is one of the best games of 2007. Don't listen to the haters. Great reviews and great sales = great game. Take inFamous for example.
actually it got mixed reviews and the pop in is horrible.
AC was overrated, true. But only because it was hyped as the "first true next-gen experience."
Still a great game, just overhyped.
I'm just glad that I bought one of the 176,000 copies sold in 1st week.
