It seems to be getting lost in the 2009 hype that includes names like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Modern Warfare 2 , but you can bet that fighting fans have it atop their priority list.

It's Tekken 6 , and Namco Bandai has released the fact sheet, which includes all sorts of interesting little factoids. Firstly, it talks about the game's fantastic HD graphics (which we don't doubt), then we get information on the game's massive roster. No less than 40 fighters will be featured, and that includes 34 favorites (Jin, Heihachi, Kazuya, Paul, etc.) and 6 all new faces to spice things up. Perhaps most interesting is the mention of a new Game Mode called "Scenario Campaign Mode," which lets one or two players jump into online co-op campaigns. Then you've got all the new customization options, destructible environments, and online competitive battles, so all of this should translate to the best Tekken installment yet! Of course, the primary requirement is gameplay, but we get the feeling that Namco has enough experience with this series to make this new entry rock solid. And despite all the other fighting franchises that have made an impact over the years, the true-blue Tekken fans rarely stray. There's a definite enduring audience.

It will arrive this fall for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and let's not forget it will also go portable on the PSP. As if that handheld even needs another "AAA" title at this point.

The PSP has really been unleashed this year, I will probably get it for that.I don't think I need the console version since the impressions of the game so far have been that is Tekken 5 in HD I still hope this turns out great.I would really like the psp version to come to psn for easy use.

I think that you'll find thats actually all thoughs anime/manga fighters 😉

Anyway Tekken has always been traditional since i started playing games, though i have to be honest there hasnt been a good new addition to the cast since Tekken 3!

Im also annoyed about Tekken 5 how they incorperated juggling into it and now you can bouncethem off the ground to mix with that it does sound ify.

I'm also hugely against them putting weapons in, thats not what Tekken is about sure the Odd one or two may have them like Yoshimitsu, but Tekken isnt Soul Calibur.

The Tekken Force Mode does look impressive though and i'll always take up the chance to batter people with Heihachi 😀

You'll never get 15-20 hit combos in SF or Virtua Fighter

SF…. was that a joke?

As for Virtua Fighter i cant understand how that game has its popular status. I found it horrificaly bland.

Nope, rarely can you pull off 15 hit combos in SF

Now, if you're talking 'bout the Marve VS Capcom games, that's a different story.

…. Well i have on SFIV, Pretty much any special attack gaurentees you that.

SFIV was great though, its kept me going for T6

There's a difference between getting caught with a Super and inputting infinite juggling combos.

Two juggle combos in Tekken = death (depending on the character).

It will take a whole lot more than that in SFIV.

The real difference also lies in that in Tekken you can enter a single punch and from that do a 15-20 hit combo. When in SF you need to be able to get your opponent with a Super/Ultra. Most of which don't deal 15 hits.

Sooooo…

Vivi_Gamer
Vivi_Gamer

I dunno, If you get a Super and Ultra combo in one match you've pretty much won…

Not at high level play

Vivi_Gamer

Its got nothing to do with the players, its the developers that made it that way.

Scarecrow
Scarecrow

I'll repeat myself, if you get someone with an Ultra the match is not guaranteed.

The other person can still get you with his/her Ultra.

Sooooo…

The difference still remains that in Tekken you get punched once and you're bound to a juggle combo.

I'd find that more annoying than pulling off a Super or Ultra(both which take technical skills to pull off)

In Tekken all you need to do is dial a combo

Well i spose on Tekken you cant get killed just by juggling, just as on SFIV, if anything it takes more skill than SFIV's specials,i never do it though, its not my style. I'm a brawler, though i do like to kick a man while hes down lol.

SFIV's juggling is NOTHING compared to Tekken's

aaronisbla

i dont know scarecrow, sounds like you just suck at the game.

Juggles are a part of the game, but high level play for this game, if all you are focusing on is getting that juggle off, you gonna get smashed

Not a big fan of SF4, Sf3 third strike was the best one

Oyashiro

I agree with Crow on this one. It is widely known that Tekken has a broken juggling system. The thing is that Tekken is known for that, they can't change it as it would make the game play wildly different. Tekken is in a nasty place, if they fix the juggling they would get a hailstorm of complaints from the fans.

aaronisbla
aaronisbla

So let me guess, the juggle system is more realistic and less broken on VF5? Give me a break, both have unrealistic juggling systems, especially VF, nothing like juggling someone when they are just centimeters off the ground. Tekken is the same way but it catches more flak for some odd reason.

Bottom line is just because you don't like the juggle system doesn't make it broken, just gotta man up and stop doing the most unsafe moves on block that gets you launched.

Oyashiro
Oyashiro

I said nothing about VF, It would be nice if you didn't put word in my mouth. The VF series also has a pretty bad juggling system. The reason Tekken get more flak is because it is more widely known and popular then VF. It is also a little easier in Tekken to pull off combos do to its fighting system. It really wouldn't be a problem if when you hit the ground it gave a character a split second invulnerability to get away. But that is not the case. When you hit the ground you bounce and they can hit you again and continue the combo. Once your in the air, you can't do anything. And there are characters that have combos that can kill a person that was at full health.

You can actually win matches by juggling a character.

100+ combos was an exaggeration, to show you how absurd Tekken gets.

Vivi_Gamer

I agree Juggling has effected Tekken since 5. I hate it when the computer just knocks you in the air and finishes you. My favourite is Tekken 3.

bearbobby

Sounds like an exaggeration, to show us how absurd you get.

Tekken is fantastic, and can be a very tactical fighter for those will a few rules-between-friends and some honor. 🙂

For instance, I wouldn't kick somebody while they were on the ground more than once, and I wouldn't keep attacking them as they stood up either.

I try to make my matches look like fights out of a kung-fu movie, I try to have some flair and dramatic moments. My combos don't usually go more than 5 or so hits in a row. I'm not a fan of juggling either, but please have more respect for the King!

aaronisbla
aaronisbla

@bearbobby, i understand the rules between friends but with rules like that in place, it doesn't force you to get better. Some characters are extremely good at keeping a person guessing on how or when to get up or else they might fall for whats referred to as a tech trap.

When friends drop man made rules ( like no grabbing for instance ) it forces you to to learn your opponent better, forces you to start recognizing which grabs he is doing and breaking said grabs.

I always liked tekken, deep character plots, attractove character designs, nice realism with a great touch of insanity, characters had depth and a story I could sink my teeth into not like most fighters plus you have to seperate street fighter from tekken both come from a different chapter in fighting history so comparisons are pointless. Me personally I've bought every fighting game ever (I own a rumble fish 2 arcade machine lol) and I love watching a devs take on the genre no matter how bad.

I saw this demoed at E3 and it looks pretty badass but fighting games kinda lose their funfactor quickly, so if I get it it will be later and for cheap. 40 characters is sweet but nowadays you just HAVE to have a character creator to keep things interesting.

aaronisbla

@WEME: well it does have a character editor, but i think its better this way than on soul calibur 4, this way the hitboxes for your characters aren't screwed up.

On SC4 for instance, Talim is a small girl and her combos work for her. Make a created character for her and some of the same combos miss all the time due to the fact that she is smaller than the smallest created character.

Tekken is about spacing and mind games, more so than juggles if you ask me, if the hitboxes arent on point due to created characters it could make things unbalanced.

If you need a good example of hitbox range issues, use Mokujin when he is fighting as Jack 5 or even as eddy gordo, his range is nerfed to hell, it would be the same way with created characters.

Plus from the looks of it and from playing 6, quite a few of the 40 characters are playable, there isnt too many throw away characters like on Marvel vs Capcom 2

WorldEndsWithMe
WorldEndsWithMe

Well this IS supposed to be a next gen experience, why not just fix the hit box problems.

aaronisbla
aaronisbla

because giving a created character the same range as someone smaller/larger than them because they use the same range isnt a magical fix for the problem. Its not a next gen thing either nor is it a hit box problem

Why not give each created character it's proper range? It doesn't have to sync up with an existing fighter.

aaronisbla
aaronisbla

Thats the thing that makes certain moves and grapples change properties, they do give them the proper range.

For a game like Tekken 6, that could be game breaking imo, wouldnt want to fight some one using Steve's boxing style and speed but with the range of Jack 6, the results would be bad imo

My current stand on the fighting game genre is that im afraid it may die soon if something doesn't change, they haven't drawn a big enough crowd in a game informer about 4 months ago they claim about 6% of gamers are into games and still play them because of fighters. C'mon people where's your fighting spirit!

Vivi_Gamer

I dont think it is a dying genre (Look at platfromer games!) Street Fighter IV was fantastic, i'm hoping this while even excell that.

If street fighter were enough to get every developer in the market to make better fighters then I would have more hope, don't get me wrong im am a huge fighter myself (not that im aany good lol) and I hate how bad it was for a while almost a year of crap fighters and hopefully tekken 6 street fighter 4 king of fighters 12 and blazblue…wait a minute lol fighters are coming back. Lmao had to stop and think for a sec.

Virtua fighter is good but its just way to generic for me, slow gameplay heavy characters and almost no story. The visuals great and the fact that it has depth in terms of moves is great but it just doesn't have the makings of a fighter that takes you by the balls and throws you onto the battlefield (no fighter is a joke each has its own outstanding qualities don't be such a kermudgin)
