When "the mask" appeared at Konami's Kojima Productions page before E3, everyone believed it had something to do with the master's new title. Well, it doesn't have anything to do with either Metal Gear Solid: Rising or Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker ; it's actually for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow !
We had heard the name "Lords of Shadow" before, but we had no idea it was tied to the long-running Castlevania franchise. Now, it has been revealed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, set to release some time next year. For the first screenshots and a brand new trailer, visit the link above and try your best not to unhinge your jaw; this appears to feature DMC or NG style action. Yes, the days of only two dimensions are long gone and while some purists would like to say that CV needed to stay with those two dimensions, we always have faith in Kojima Productions and Konami. We're not sure what sort of role Kojima will play in the design and production of this game, but we imagine he has his hands full with those aforementioned MGS titles. We have yet to see a really amazing 3D Castlevania installment so we're long overdue, but perhaps this is the generation that will allow the series to break through. Really, if they keep that traditional atmosphere and translate it to a 3D, God of War -like format, they really can't go wrong. And hey, we need more vampires in video games, damnit.
Anyway, now that it has been announced, we'll definitely track down as much info as we can. For now, be happy with the media at the official site; it looks very promising.
Related Game(s): Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Castlevania – Mourneblade – Stormbringer – gathering stormclouds on teaser site – YES! Called it.

OK, I know, the teaser storm clouds may not have been related to the mask…

I love the trailer for this game it looks like it's got a bit of Uncharted, Assassin's Creed and God of War all blended together with it's own special sauce…
Ah!
Yup looked like a Castlevania(but they never confirmed it).
Well should be pure ownage!
I have the 3D one for ps2, hopefully this one's ten time's better.
theres 2 on PS2, but Curse of Darkness was best.
I have never played a Castlevania game, but this looks really cool! Kind of GOW-like, which is always a good thing 🙂
You should download/buy Symphony of the Night on the PSN. It's a classic PSOne came, and it's 2D sidescroller, but it's well worth it. XD
SotN is my second-favorite game of all time behind FFT.
Hmm, I might just do that. I remember my friend playing it when the PSX was the hottest thing around, he really liked it. I was dreaming of having a rap career while playing Parappa the Rapper instead, lol (my first PSX game).
Yeah, the game has got to be in my top ten favorites. Up there with GOW, Gran Turismo, FFVII, Soul Reaver, DMC, MGS, and Soul Calibur
The Dracula X chronicles would be the best to pick up. comes with Dracula X and the sequal which is SotN.
Oh my god……..it's what I've wanted. Kojima's team got to pick up an existing IP!!!! I showed the trailer to my roommate and he said that he didn't even know what it was until he saw the title at the end of the trailer. This franchise may actually make it's first major console impact since PS1. This is exciting! The game looks like Devil of War 🙂
I'm really hoping for a Retro Studios quality transition this time around. Oh, anyone else bothered by Nintendo's destruction of the Metroid game style just to save face?
"And hey, we need more vampires in video games, damnit."
Darkwatch 2 maybe? (Please?)
I'd be down for that, loved Darkwatch.
@Kangasfwa,
Luv Darkwatch,
but I'm frigging stuck in that tall cave with the broken bridge way way up high.
I'm figuring that I've got to do some jumps to get up there, can't seem to get my jumps from place to place to get me more than 3/4 of the way up across from that #&^$%$&^% bridge, or from the ledge directly under it.
Can't wait to watch this title shape up, I've been down with Castlevania since the first one dropped on NES.
I just watched the trailer….wow…simply…wow!
Patrick Stewart FTW

When I found out patrick stewart was gay I almost cried, NOT CAPTAIN PICARD!
I guess that explains why he was married and had two kids. And why he's currently dating a younger woman.
Just saw the trailer and…Patrick Stewart?! I'm in!
Kingjames I love that avatar btw (quick side not for what its worth) where did that come from?
Ever since I met my first Belmont I was hooked to every installment of the Castlevania series, and whether it be whips, swords, guns, or magic im sure any fan will welcome the next vampire story with open arms!
According to one of the many gaming sites I was surfing through trying to check out all the E3 stuff(forget exactly which one though), an interview that Kojima just gave, he said that C:LOS is actually being developed by a Spanish company, "Mercurysteam" but with Kojima's guidance & his helping them along throughout the game.
So it should still be some awesome stuff!!!
AWESOME!!! Probably my favorite franchise of all time! Even the installments on the gameboy advance were awesome!
I miss a good 2-D Castlevania game. Guess I'll have to keep looking to the Game Boy for those. Perhaps this may be the first good 3-D iteration in the series. And it's nice to know that the movie was canceled. I really didn't want Hollywood to screw that one up too.
Now if they made an anime instead…..

I never played any of the castlevania games but there was a series of vampire books by Darren Shan called Darren Shan and one of them was
Darren Shan : Lord of the shadows. I know nothing to do with the game but it just reminded me of them because they are the best books ever… Awesome, best ending. A little of topic…
the only game i play of this was castlevania: circle of the moon which was a great game for the GBA so im going to check this one out when it comes out
Kojima will make this game better than boring Metal Gear PERIOD!
Metal Gear Period, eh? That's one stealth mission I'll stay away from.
This game looks so good. I am totally pumped up for this one. Kojima + Castlevania = totally awesome. 🙂
@ DVE SIXBURGH
Metal Gear Period
Wasn't that game a 1st gootchie shooter, where you shoot these little cotton missles out of plastic Applicators? And wasn't it was made by Kotex?
If so, then…NO, I can't say I remember it.
I think he's reffering to the one with DRAGONS.
Hmmm, Metal gear boring? Kids these days……… Anyway, Castlevania SOTN was and more than likely will be my hands down unbeatable fav of the the franchise.
they must be disgruntled xbots who's mad that 360 can't handle MGS4 so they bash it even though they have nothing to compete with it.
im excited about this. the one on ps3 weren't that bad i actually loved curse of darkness that was the closest to symphony of the night in a sense.
man oh man, and I though '09 was expensive…
I have no idea how I am going to afford all of the games I want for '10
GOW3
Heavy Rain
Brutal Legend
Castlevania Lords of Shadows
that new driving game that looks like LBP
FF versus
FF 13
FF 14
MAG
And more….
Gonna have to get a new mortage if this keeps up!
Im sorry but this is Castlevania about as much as DMC is, I didnt hear or see anything even relating to Castlevania, in that trailer. In fact this looks exactly the same as it did a year ago without the Castlevania logo slapped on it. No Belmonts, no Dracula, no Items or Item Crashes. Most importantly no Igarashi, how the heck do you make a Castlevania without the man who gave us Symphony of the Night?
Im curious how other SoTN fans feel about this, Ben?
Also the music for the trailer sucks something fierce, where is the beautiful and haunting music of Michiru Yamane? This may end up being a good 3D game but its no real Castlevania, not to me. Personally I hope this game like its spiritual predecessor (Castlevania on Dreamcast) just gets canceled.
Ok the first half of my dream has been realized, now if only Alucard will show his face again, I'll be in heaven.
