Sony's E3 press conference is tomorrow but to tide you over until then, we've got a few new updates for you.

As reported by Variety's The Cut Scene , Gran Turismo 5 really won't be released this year, contrary to the high hopes of racing aficionados. There's also the mention that God of War III has "slipped" to 2010, but that's definitely not accurate. The last we heard, the game was set for a March 2010 release, with only the scant possibility that it may launch in January. Any talk about it coming out in 2009 is strictly based on speculation and wishful thinking. The blog also states that Microsoft will have a big musical-oriented surprise at their conference today, and Joystiq has confirmed that the upcoming exclusive PS3 DLC for Batman: Arkham Asylum – where you can play as The Joker – will be free . Just as a reminder, the game was initially scheduled to release later this month but has now been delayed until August 25. We have several great titles to keep us occupied until then, though. For instance, you can have a ton of fun with the highly addictive inFamous ; it's one of 2009's must-plays.

We're counting the hours to Sony's conference tomorrow – 11 a.m. PST, 2 p.m. EST – and you can be sure that we'll bring you the news as it happens .

That's an understatement.

The big musical surprise MS had was an onstage appearance by the last remaining live Beatles (Paul and Ringo). No music though, just some air guitar. Apparently the big surprise is that one Beatles track (All You Need is Love) will be exclusive to XBL.

Whoopti-doo…

[No offense to Microsoft, but in all honesty, I can say that a Singstar version with 20 queen tracks for me to sing along with, which includes the music videos of the tracks, is about 100 times more attractive than a Beatles air-guitar game. So, in that spirit, I ask, was this really your big surprise? Really? I mean, Really!?]

Now Tony Hawk is showing us the ropes on a Skate controller….yay.

Next up, Modern Warfare 2 – not really my cup of tea, so yay, I think.

Two map packs for XBL, no indication of exclusivity – yet…

Oh, now they have some SquEnix t…folks on to talk about FFXIII. Oh, they're so excited to be showing it running on a 360 – let's hope the GPU doesn't implode onstage….I guess MS will go on and on about this since they were first to show the game at this year's E3 …blah..blah..blah…

Hideo Kojima got in stagte at the Microsoft conference at E3 some time ago. He announced that a new Metal Gear Solid game is in the works, and that it's called Metal Gear Solid Rising. It will be available for the Xbox 360, meaning that Sony will no longer have it as an exclusive.

I guess that the Beatles will be there (the remains).

After some lack luster Xbox exclusive news, MS has got to the point of announcing Forza 3. They're calling it the definitive racing game of this generation. Piffle, GT5 Prolog currently holds that title and it's a bloody demo. Come on Polyphony and Sony, get your collective act together and get GT5 done. Show these folks what a definitive racing game actually looks like.

Watching the microsoft conference live, Left 4 dead 2, crackdown 2 and forza 3 have been announced.

GT5 really does have some competition…

GT5Prologue You mean, GT5 hasn't yet been given a date, and based on past performanec will actually meet the definition of the term 'definitive game'. Forza 3 may well be a great game, however previous iterations of Forza have, IMHO, not exceeded GT4. So how can Forza3 be said to be definitive when it's not clear whether it can even exceed GT4, never mid GT5?

OMG not Kojima…I am now hanging myself.

They've got a FULL BODY CAPTURE motion control thing…Sony need to pull out something special to beat this stuff.

So, Alan Wait (oops – Wake), Halo Reach, ODST, Forz3, Left 4 Dead Again (sorry I meant 2), Splinter Cell, Crackdown, Joyride and Shadow Complex?

That's the stellar – exclusive – line up?

Now they're talking about piping SkyTV through XBL in the UK. I guess they needed something to challenge PlayTV there. If it doesn't have a cost advantage, I don't see many people being willing to tie up their Internet connection with a live TV feed on a video Game console with all the reliability of an old Yugo or Lada.

Gosh, mind blowing stuff there from Microsoft. I guess we'd better look out for the sting at the end of the presentation eh?

Uh-oh, here it comes, Kojima just took the stage. MGS on 360 incoming!

Metal Gear Rising – on 360 – in development now.

Supposedly something completely new in Metal Geat. Kojima says "But, I didn't say anything about Solid Snake"… Konami, when is your press conference?

Looks like 360 owners will finally get a Metal Gear game, just not MGS4, and not for a while.

Oh, now it's motion controllers, no it sounds like it's a motion tracking system through a camera. Wait, doesn't PSEye already do this…?

Hey Guys,

Hey Highlander, just curious, I know you're into the tech side of things, so are you right there at E3????

TheHighlander

Sadly not, I'm just a gaming & hardware geek watching on several sites and commenting here.

If I ever have time in my day job for a second day job, I'll have to do some classes to learn how to write properly. Then maybe I might be able to lay some professional claim to writing about games but for now I'll settle for amateur.

I've written articles for several tech and gaming news sites over the years, but apart from one particular stint I've always been an occasional contributor and regular reader.

But the counting on teaser site had not been stopped? Is it other MGS for PS3 only, becasue how I understand the main character is Raiden not a Gray Fox or Snake. Because on teaser was site was Gray Fox and Big Boss picture.
Ok I just saw a pic of This MGs Rising an on that pic is Gray Fox not a Raiden(he just colud not change his eye color nad lose one eye)

Dam Microsoft don't play around.I sweating cause they just made Live twice as strong as before and basically deleted the eye toy.Sony has show big big stuff top 360.

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

Excuse me? The Eyetoy already has motion sensing software available on PSN and has done so for more than 12 months, Microsoft is playing catch up. There is nothing here that is in any way revolutionary. As for their game line up, apart from the MGS title which will be exclusive to Xbox, there is really very little of any significance. Alan wait, Forza, Left 4 Dead Again, More Modern Warfare, I mean really what was there in this presentation that really lit the place up?

To me the tone was set with the Beatles appearance. Only two of the original 5 are still alive (sounds familiar to some Xbox 360 owners eh?) and they're just bringing the same old music – remastered. Just like the rest of the line up. It's ll been seen before, including the motion capturing camera.

I understand what you're saying but you have to admit that Microsoft set the bar high for both Nintendo and Sony. All this time Sony has been trying to match Live and but Microsoft just took another giant step.Maybe Sony will blow Microsoft out of the water,I guess tomorrow we will find out.

I may be wrong on this, but last time I checked a video game system was supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience with games that enclose you in an epic story. I don't wanna be talking to Milo about my problems when I have real friends/family to do that with. Also if I wanted to exercise I'd go lift some weights and actually gain muscle. And they showed off one BIG game, MGS…which they bought obviously. I really don't see why motion control needs to be so popular. Sony better show off all the top games. That's all I care about

I'm sure the MGS game is also coming to the PS3, no? Since it was announced on the PS3 Famitsu.

Was watching the games, thinking only Splinter Cell and Alan Wake would be the only things that would interest me. Now with 1080p downloads and Project Natal amongst other features, it seems Sony is going to have to (as per usual I might add) pull something extraordinary out of the bag 2morrow. Just when I thought Sony would have E3 this year. Granted, I have both consoles, but it would be nice for Sony to announce things on this scale for once instead of picking up the slack ūüôĀ

I must admit, the natal is high tech, but i can only see the wii games going to the 360. Its funny how Kojima corrected him and said not snake.

Anonymous

Let's not count Sony out, but that Natal technology is almost like unveiling a new console. It's hard for games to go up against that, no matter how awesome they are. M$ may have just struck the perfect combination between next-gen and Wii.

Karnel.. the kojima "correction" was massively scripted.

The saddest thing is that they clearly said the metal gear "Franchise" will now be on the 360.
Starting with this newly announced title

karneli lll
karneli lll

The way Kojima said it, its like "the 360 is getting a spin off coz my bosses got paid".I think it will be a ff XIII / FF versus XIII story, one for commercial purposes, the other for artistic purposes.

I bet Kojima feels like crap; from a 50 gig game to a 12+ gig game

I guess Kojima really didn't care much about making the most technically advanced games.

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

And how is it that this Press conference does anything that makes Sony likely to lose? Seriously, what earth shattering announcement was made?

The only 'surprise' is a Konami/Kojima MGS game on the 360. But considering that MGS4 was supposed to be the be all and end all for MGS, all I can say is…..so what. But, are you really saying that this one game combined with the rest of MS's presentation is stronger than just the confirmed line up from Sony et al? Kinda soon to declare a winner when Sony is still warming up in the bull pen.

karneli lll
karneli lll

Highlander, he means Sony have already won,its just up to them (Sony) to decide if they'll lose

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

@Karnelli – Indeed, I missed that sense in the original comment.

I guess I'm actually in the position of feeling that Microsoft really missed an opportunity here. to my eye the game lineup really isn't that good, and apart from an interesting applet to go with the motion tracking camera, everything else really felt like secondary applications, not core stuff.

There was only one 'surprise' in the game line up, and it was really to be expected and not really a big shocker in the end, apart from that I really find than on reflection I'm trying really hard, but failing to see Emperor Bill's new clothes, in fact, Bill is looking decidedly naked. Ew!
