Lest we forget, the Ratchet and Clank series remains one of the most popular and critically acclaimed video game franchises of all time. The last iteration, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction , was yet another fantastic effort by Insomniac, and we expect nothing less than excellence from the new installment, A Crack in Time .

You'll want to tune into the latest Full Moon Show podcast , which is both interesting and enlightening. Best of all, we get a fresh update on the team's progress, and as it turns out, A Crack in Time is closing in on the alpha stage of development and yes, it will be on display at E3 next week. The level they'll show off will be Krell Canyon, and apparently, internal play testing has already begun, so everything appears to be moving forward smoothly and quickly. As for other intriguing details, we urge you to listen to the entire podcast, but let's just say that this game will eclipse Tools of Destruction in terms of both size and diversity. Not surprisingly, the team is working on new gadgets for Ratchet to have at his disposal (they always do!), and the world ought to be bigger and more beautiful than ever before. It's yet another PlayStation 3 exclusive that is almost guaranteed to deliver the goods in spades, and if you've ever played an R&C adventure before, you're accustomed to wonderfully polished and endlessly entertaining quests. We can't wait to see that Krell Canyon level and as the year rolls onwards, we certainly expect more info and media to flow outwards from Insomniac.

They're one of our favorite developers, in truth. Honestly, if we only were able to play the R&C and Resistance franchises from here until the end of our days, it wouldn't be such a huge travesty.

Bigger and more beautiful is always a plus.I shouldn't expect too much of the E3 footage since it's Beta footage; at least it will show the fans what's to come.

I played Tools Of Destruction 3 times. I'll be getting this one without the need for review scores to help me decide. RAC:TOD was my first game for ps3 and it made my jaw drop to see it in hd.

It took me three times through to collect the holoplans. I had to look at a walkthrough to get the last one. I will definitely play through again even after a new one comes out.

Holy cow I just listened to it for 1 hour.

They're still funny as always 😉 and there's [SPOILER] three Brian/Bryan's lol.

(And for the people who won't listen to it for long)
They also mention that in the demo the players will be able to use a really cool gadget.. that you may have noticed it being used in the teaser. Easy guess.
If it's what I think it is, then the demo will rock the Dragon!

I love Ratchet and Clank, despite each instalment being very similar to play, its just so fun, the story is so good and the gadgets are such a blast to use, the series will just never get old

I love ratchet and clank but I much prefered the jak and dexter series, until that stupid racing one, which i suppose they didnt get much return on. Then the psp one… geez. Wonder do they have any plans for j&D on ps3?

I was a huge fan of the first Jak game. It's easily on par with the best R&C games but I thought they lost their magic with Jak 2. There was just something about that one that turned me off. But, its been long enough now that I think they could pull of a new game with some success. If they do, we all win!

This new Ratchet title is at the top of my autumn list, along with Uncharted 2 and GT5 (should it deign to make an appearance).

For anyone who's not yet played a R&C game. Do yourself a big, big favor and find a PS2. Then borrow/buy the four PS2 (actually there's a 5th one now) Ratchet and Clank games and play them through.

Sometimes I think people want more story and adventure from R&C than it should/could give. It's a 3D action/platformer, not an action RPG. However they humor and story in each has always been good. What the games lack in depth of story they make up for with humor. But I have to say that R&C games (except for Deadlocked) have generally featured more story than many action/adventures. With the huge arsenal of gadgets and weapons plus armor and upgrades, the game allows you to customize your play almost as much as an RPG

I've thought about getting the old ones. I've only ever played R&C ToD. I'm buying ACIT and Uncharted 2 right away – there's no way I'm waiting til Christmas this time!

R&C Up Your Arsenal is probably the most fun of the games on PS2, Going Commando is probably second best (IMHO) followed by the original and finally Deadlocked. I'm not sure where Size Matters would belong on PS2 – I've only played the PSP version.

For the PS2 titles I would say you only need to play Ratchet & Clank and Going Commando. The first because it's a classic, and the second because it was the best in the series till Tools of Destruction.

I lost so many hours to the very first R&C game when it came out. I played it over and over again, though I never did get all the skill points.

Of course, you should play all of them (except the PSP-to-PS2 port of Size Matters), but those are the two to play if you can't get 'em all.

I think that up your arsenal was and still is the best. Then going commando and then deadlock probally because of the weapon customation. I didn't like ToD so much but probally because i new when it was coming out and i already new half of the guns before it came out

They really better bring something 'Fresh". RAC going commando was so much fun, but from there I have been getting more and more bored. I barley even played any of the third, only the demo of deadlocked and never played the psp ones. I played TOD and finished it, but I won't ever play it again. It's getting tired, maybe they should add more shooting with an OTS camera..

I think you're completely wrong. R&C is first and foremost a platforming game. Deadlocked was more of a third person action game and it really didn't do as well as any of the others. So going to more shooting with an OTS 3rd person view just doesn't work.

Deadlocked was still a lot of fun, just not as much as others.

alright these are the best games pf the ps2 era: Sly 1-3, Jak 2 and 3, And of course ratchet and clank. I'm sure this new one will be good just because insomniac is making it.
