Maybe this will put an end to the irritating saga. But then again, we still have this sneaking suspicion that not enough PlayStation 3 owners care .

First, there was no real confirmation one way or the other concerning Lost Planet 2 . Then, it was announced for the Xbox 360 with no mention of the PS3, thereby earning Capcom some jeers from the Sony crowd. Directly following this, the rumors began to spread that a PS3 version would also release, and the publisher didn't help matters by saying it was a "confusing" situation. Now, hopefully it's all over: according to GamingFront , the Official PlayStation Magazine has revealed the following:

"…Capcom has since confusingly refused to confirm on the record what Lost Planet 2 is coming out on. Whatever guy. We can tell you that it is definitely going to be released on PS3."

Okay, so can we stop this now? Or do we really have to wait until Capcom finally sends out the press release officially confirming it? We do understand the publisher's reluctance on this matter; while Lost Planet: Extreme Condition was a popular title on the Xbox 360, it didn't fare quite so well when it released a lot later on the PS3. From a purely business standpoint, we can indeed comprehend the conundrum, but at the same time, we'd just point to the increasing PS3 user base (nearing 23 million now) and go, "uh…what's the problem?"

Did enough PS3 owners actually buy enough copies of the first one for this to be worth it? I remember how the game got pretty lame reviews on the PS3 because by the time it got ported over, the mechanics felt old…Are there enough Sony users out there that are still interested in this? I've thought of picking this up, but only because I saw a used copy at EB Games for 20 bucks… But then I bought Oblivion GOTY edition for 30 instead..

Although I guess there is such a thing as second chances…maybe Capcom will get it right this time around…I may check this out, but not on launch day, I'll wait to see what Ben says about it first..lol

Not the most shocking news of all time. However, it's nice to have a confirmation for what we all knew.

For my 360 owning friends who were happy about this 'exclusive' they felt they had…

Whoops there goes an exclusive, whoops there goes an exclusive, whoops there goes an exclusive video game.

Apologies to all those rubber tree plants out thre who no doubt took great offense.

Great news… although still stinks about the climate changes.

MS probably has some marketing agreement to only announce the game for 360 until release day or a timed exclusive that also forces Capcom to stay quiet about other platforms.

Another thought, could also be the same sort of thing with Assassin's Creed. Ubisoft wanted to make it an exclusive to PS3 and tried selling it to Sony. While they were in talks, Ubisoft continued to advertise the game as a PS3 exclusive.

MS probably didn't want to pay for the exclusive, especially during a time when they are trying to save money (see Layoffs).

they tried that with RE5 and it still outsold the 360 version by about 200K. same with SF4. M$ is so pathetic it's not even funny.

I can definitely see a lot of PS3 owners not caring one way or the other.

I remember seeing ads for Lost Planet and it looked cool but… meh.

I'd get it but there's no point. I'd never play it. I loved the first one but only because I didn't have anything that good to play with. It's a whole different story now.

Sad thing is if this comes out at the same time as U2, it might take some of its sales. 🙁

I'm just awaiting confirmation of another PS3 game that was initially developed exclusively. *cough* Star Ocean *cough* You said it best, PS3's user base is growing and at nearly 23 million, makes you wonder what's the problem. My guess is that "confusion" translates to "MS is offering us a fat check and the (Capcom) president hasn't decided one way or another yet". Sure they can look back to LP1's sales and try to draw conclusion from that, but everyone and their mom played LP1 already. I'm sure they're just trying to weigh the benefits of multiplatform versus letting MS do some hefty advertisements for them.

With all the games due this year for PS3, LP2 wouldn't be severely missed. MS is hurting for quality releases, so I believe they do have a hand in this "confusion". Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing LP2 show up at a later date for PS3 a la Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2/Tales of Vesperia style. I'm a big fan of extra content/polish these days.

If the PS3 Lost Planet port wasn't so botched and inferior to its 360 counterpart, as well as coming in absurdly late to the console compared to its first release, then perhaps more PS3 fans would have been appreciative of the first game.

Capcom has no one to blame but itself for LP's general lack of success on the PS3.

Over the shoulder, yes like RE5. Just not the same style of gameplay. RE5 you cannot move and shoot at the same time. Lost Planet you can.

3rd party exclusives should be non-existent. It doesn't make sense financially for a game company to do that, especially when such said game company wants the business of both opposing consoles owners.

i think 3rd part exclusives are ok, look at MGS4. had kojima went with a mulitplatform version from the start, its very likely he would have been able to get close to his ideas and the PS3 version would have been gimped for the 360 version like so many other cross plat games. Now DLC is another thing. Seems to me it helps the dev more then MS or Sony to offer DLC equally to both platforms.

Most likley they dont want to confirm that there is a PS3 version because they might be working on a deal with MS on a timed exclusive maybe?

That or it could be some cause or stipulation regarding an arrangement with MS to avoid any and all comments of the existence of a PS3 version within some kind of time frame. Which would be pretty stupid anyway… Capcom have prided themselves as a multiplat developer, so we KNOW a PS3 version is in the works somewhere.

Look at what happened to Bioshock – Levine and co. repeatedly denied the existence of a PS3 version for a good 7 to 8 months before the official confirmation magically popped out of nowhere. It really just makes both publishers and developers look stupid, as well as insulting the intelligence of their fanbase.

I like what you said at the end there about these deals insulting our intelligence. Not that I'm a big fan of LP, but these deals have been so commonplace this gen, and the way they try to keep silent is insulting. Sure, I understand money is essentially the cornerstone of any business, and I'm all for that. But when developers act like no such version of another platform exists or is even considered, it just irks me a little. I remember reading Tri-Ace say a PS3 version of SO4 is not possible, but during a recent interview they said it's perfectly possible for PS3. And much like Tales of Vesperia, rumors surface and a "fake" PS3 scan shows up as well. One can say it's only speculation, but if this news and Tales of Vesperia are any indication then SO4 will be hitting the PS3 eventually. As these things happen more and more, all it's doing is upsetting gamers and leaving us up in the air with unsettling confusion. I hope 2010 is a better year and M$ will finally pump those billions into its own games, and stop trying to force gamers onto a console they can't trust. I'd respect them if they did so.

What a waste of time, I don't know why they spend the effort to hide it. The original isn't even out yet.

I guess the idea is to hide it so they clarify that ps3 version will be a port and the Xbox version will be superior. This way they don't contradict with their "goal" of being multi-platform.
