inFamous is right around the corner and there's a very good possibility that Sucker Punch is already working on Sly Cooper 4 . But as an independent developer, what keeps them loyal to Sony?
In this generation, most every design team that isn't associated directly with one of the major console manufacturers has gone multiplatform. This is simply due to the increased cost of creating a game for the next-gen consoles; a multiplat title reaches far more potential buyers, plain and simple. But Sucker Punch sticks with Sony for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons is something we've been saying since the PlayStation 3 launched: that if a team focuses entirely on the PS3, they can take advantage of its power and potential without worrying about gimping it for the Xbox 360. There's a reason why the PS3 exclusives have shined recently… In a recent D+PAD interview , Sucker Punch Co-Founder Bruce Oberg said:
"We love Sony. They've given us the freedom and resources to create a line of very special titles, from the Sly Cooper series to inFamous. And the PlayStation 3 is an incredible machine. By focusing on one platform, we've been able to squeeze performance out of our engine and deliver really special experiences to PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 owners."
You should definitely check out the rest of that interview, too, as you learn a lot about the magic behind the scenes. inFamous is gaining a heck of a lot steam as we head towards the May 26 launch, and early feedback has been stellar. This could be the game to beat until fall, so maybe it's time to scrape together the bucks! Anyway, it's good to see a developer like Sucker Punch that remains content making games for the PlayStation line of products.

Unnecessary.
Can we say we don't like the Xbox 360? Or is that unacceptable too?

Just because someone has a preference, does not make them a fanboy. The only people that are completely indifferent and have no preferences on anything can only be found in the ground… at a cemetery…
But when you start to "Love" and "Hate" a corporation that doesn't even know you exist, then you are a Fanboy.

Say whatever you want, provided it relates to the article and isn't just random bashing of a company. It's that simple.
Thrill kill, you can hate what they do, but you shouldn't hate the people. After all, we're all human.
What did this article have to do with Microsoft? Nothing. It was about the PS3.
soo.. back on topic..
I don't necessarily hate the Xbox (I wouldn't buy one though)…but I do hate microsoft…They are such an impersonal company…plus, they have have stuck us with windows for so long I can't help but feel that there could be something better, but have fun implementing it…windows is a monopoly. There are some silly problems with windows that shouldn't exist.
I don't hate the 360. I do however hate the Wii, but that's a whole other explanation altogether.
I do hate Microsoft's business practices. The fact that they only have 3 first party studio's vs Sony's 122, means that Microsoft resorts to exclusive DLC and timed exclusives in order to try and compete. M$ would be doing there fans right, by investing in some first party studios and new IPs, instead of delaying PS3 versions of multiplatform releases.
@ Migabyte – Don't blame Microsoft for your inability to learn new technology. There are a plethora of other OS' out there, that aren't Windows. Linux, Unix, Mac, etc… They're all options that you could choose, versus Windows. Fact is, software developement companies, go with Windows primarily, as Windows is utilized by 90% of the world. In fact, blame the world, Microsoft doesn't make you buy Windows. They simply put it out there.
That having been said, I've had my share of problems with the Windows OS…but as I said, I urge you to check out your alternatives and tell me if they're easier to use. I'm betting not.

I don't hate any system,am rather hating this gen, quality games are taking tooooooooo long!
Ok. Then it's perfectly fine if I say " Haha, noone ever says the Xbox 360 is an incredible machine" ? That is kinda related to this topic. 😛

@ MornelitheVT
I'm really not loosing any sleep over the problems I have with windows, and the fact that windows is the standard makes it easier for me. I know about the alternatives, but there isn't reason enough for me to make the leap. I just hate seeing monopolies like that squash the little guy, it's not good for the consumer. It's honestly not really all their fault, but there is no one else to blame really, I suppose I could blame the world as you suggest……but I already blame it for enough things, giving it a pass this time. I'm sure windows is the easiest to use as you say (although mac isn't bad, I just own a PC). But it wouldn't be that way if there was any money in developing something better (no one is sitting at home thinking, lets launch a billion dollar company to compete with windows, sorry, you will loose). It's like firefox, I use it, but it isn't so much better than IE, but it's free, I think it could be better if there was a market for it. They are stifling progress, on many fronts, with windows.
….disagree with that.

I think that the 360 is a excellent machine but I cannot stand Microsoft or Nintendo.I have had many microsoft products that have fail me that I don't want anything to do with them.I personally think they should get out of the gaming industry and some how sell the xbox brand to a real console company which deserves another chance("SEGA"4EVER).
@ Migabyte – I think the biggest problem isn't necessarily that MS stomps on the little guy (Don't get me wrong, I know they do). But that the world refuses to explore different avenues. That's not just the common joe, that's software developers as well. Yes, you could go Mac, if you were completely 100% retarded. Yes, MacOS is usable, for certain, but, Apple's manufacturing process/hardware offering is plainly put, vastly over-priced, and vastly under-performing, additionally, it's filled with shoddy garbage. (Note that the avg PC lifespan is at least 3-5 years longer than the lifespan of an avg Mac).
As for Linux/Unix, check them out sometime, they're not as user friendly (Specifically lacking a real GUI). But, they definitely work well, plus they support a 128-bit Kernel now (I believe). Whereas, Windows is still stuck @ 64-bit (Vista).
That having been said, I also own a PC, something I built myself, and I did so with the design of being able to run Vista-64, for DX10.1 games. And, boy howdy, do those games kick ass. (Crysis, Crysis:Warhead, Stalker: Clear Skies, Company of Heroes etc…).
It's unfortunate, but there's really no alternative until developers and the consumer, start to broaden their horizons. Until then, Windows really isn't that bad, sure Vista had a prety rocky launch, but, honestly, having used it the past 5 months…it works pretty well for me.

Waaaaay off-topic. You two can stop now.
We did…about 2 and a half hours ago, according to timestamps. Besides…the </mini-thread> was obviously closing the loop.

i hate microsoft too.
i hope they are working on an inFAMOUS 2 cuz they got a hit with this game
Infamous 1 hasn't even come out yet.
i think i like sly cooper more tho
Judging by what I have heard from people when it comes to the inFAMOUS demo, and now IGN's review, this game looks another amazing exclusive.
I know I am buying it day one.
wait, there's a demo? did I miss that one?! *runs out of the home office to check the PSN*
*comes back to office with head hanging low* Nope, no demo. Only several videos and a theme.
He is talking about the early access preorder demo. It will go public like 5 or so days before the game is released.
ahh good to know, thanks
Its funny how all the independent developers say just how great the PS3 is to work with, yet all the non-independent devs just whine about how difficult it is to make a game. Take some notes ppl.
I need to hurry and beat GFII before this comes in my mail box 🙂
If only game companies are like that *looks at square enix*.

im not a fanboy, but i 2 h8 microsft 4 wat their doing with ff13 and all of the dlc. unexperianced led them 2 rush the 360 out before sony, now their paying 4 it (rrod) 🙂
I KNOW ITS OFF TOPIC, BUT I HAD 2 SAY THAT 🙂
IGN's review is in! They gave infamous a 9.2 Not too shabby at all. I was a little bit on the fence about it, but it looks like I'll have to pick it up after all.
Sucker Punch, Insomnia, Naughty Dog.
Three names to know and love. Independent developers who work closely with Sony and produce truly kick ass games exclusively for the PlayStation range. These are the kinds of developers who need to be supported, and their relationships with Sony need to be fostered, nurtured and treasured.
It's heartening to hear about this kind of loyalty. It does make you wonder why it is that Sony can keep such developers as this loyal while Microsoft loses formerly exclusive devs such as Bungie. Could it be that Sony really does work with and take care of it's friends, and Microsoft does not?
Indeed my man. Indeed.
what is bungie doing that is not only on 360?
@Sticklife
I never said that Bungie weren't still producing for the 360 and/or PC (which technically makes them multi-platform) However they were part of the Microsoft family, but have since broken ties with Microsoft. It wouldn't be an awful big surprise if something non-Halo emerged from Bungie in due course – including a PS3 version.
oh okay.
@ TheHighlander
Naughty Dog is a first party sony studio
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naughty_Dog
It's true that going multiplatform does give a bigger potential market but at the same time, the quality of the end product may be reduced because of the accommodations to make all versions relatively similar. It seems Sucker Punch doesn't want to sacrifice quality for quantity which is good because games are best remembered for how good they are and not how many systems they were on.
If only more developers would follow suit 😛
May be? I'd actually go one step further and say that, any multiplatform game is going to suck, compared to an exclusive. Whether it's a PS3 or 360 or PC exclusive. It doesn't matter. The PS3 has potential in areas the 360/PC do not, the 360 has potential in areas that the PC/PS3 do not, and the PC has vast potential in many…many areas that the consoles do not.
Thus, is capitolism. Rather than actually develope their dream…they simply develope a half-assed shadow of said dream, force feed it to us, and expect to reap the rewards. Personally, it's satisfying seeing gaming studios TANK for their shitty IP.
Yeah, chalk it up to 'developers are in it to make money'…but there comes a point when the dream SHOULD exceed that. Sadly, it doesn't, and many many multiplatform games suck because of it.

"The PlayStation 3 Is An Incredible Machine" – Sucker Punch
This is fact.
True dat
What else is new I think we all know PS3 is the greatest system ever made, I'm glad to be a PS3 owner I get to play all the best games of this gen, Thank you sucker punch for making another AAA exclusive
Ok,my comment was referring to the article when you wrote about the gimping of games due to the xbox. I did't say i hated people…i do hate microsoft's antics..and i should hate sony too for laying off my father after 22 years of employment just so they wouldnt have to pay retirement benifits, but they did bring the PS along which has brought me great memories..we bought our first PS from a SONY store at the plant. great times. i am not a fan boy Oyashiro, i grew up playing Atari,Nintendo,Sega,PS. It just bugs me that Microsoft ruins other peoples enjoyment just to get ahead in business…
now if only more of my friends would realize this.
Thank you for the link to the interview. I'm a huge Sucker Punch Productions' fanboy and I love their Sly Cooper games (no surprise since I use a Sly avatar whenever I can). inFamous is my most eagerly awaited game of 2009 and I can't wait to play the demo and pick up my retail copy.
Is good to know that Sony still has some loyal developers in their corner.I really do hope that they are working on a new Sly Cooper which would make me a even happier gamer;in the mean time I will be looking forward to inFamous.
Good on Sucker Punch…Infamous is a sure buy for me but I'm glad the early word of mouth has been excellent which will convince the fence sitters.. I do hope SP gets good sales and financial accolades for this superb looking title…Now give me some Sly 4 goodness baby 😀
Well ya know, it's no surprise the amateurs hate on PS3 when true tech professionals unwilling to take shortcuts love the machine and see it for what it's worth. Let's face it, the 360 is just easier to work with because it's just a stripped down PC and lazy companies like Valve like to slack off, let others do ports, and ignore a massive base just to make things a little easier on themselves instead of focusing on making the best game possible.
Sucker Punch has got class baby.
I think this shows that sucker punch cares more about making a great game than how much money it can make by going multi platform. we need more of that.
I just went and paid for my preorder for Infamous. I like their attitude toward Sony.
