Playable Joker Having Impact On PS3 Version Pre-Orders

If you've been following along – and you should be, like a good, loyal little reader – you know that the PlayStation 3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum boasts an awesome exclusive gift: the ability to play as the Joker in the special Challenge maps. And you know what? It's making a difference already.

As Everyday PlayStation points out, this announcement has made a significant impact on pre-orders at Amazon.com. Although the game is coming for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, the PS3 version sits at #192 on their list while the 360 version is way down at #632. The promising title is scheduled to release on June 23 and it appears as if most gamers are definitely "in the know;" we've always said that fans of this particular entertainment industry are typically very well informed, and this proves that theory. It proves it even further by taking the user base discrepancy between the PS3 and 360 into account, as the 360 still leads by approximately 6 million units. On top of which, nobody is saying the PS3 version is significantly better for some reason; like most all multiplatform games these days, all three versions ought to be virtually identical. Therefore, in looking at those pre-order numbers, we can only come to one logical conclusion: this PS3 exclusive extra is having a definite impact! Don't you want to play as one of the most notorious and recognizable villains in comic history?

It'd be interesting to see what the GameStop pre-orders look like, too, but for now, we consider this sufficient evidence. For some reason, Eidos has worked out this deal with Sony (we don't hear about any special extra for 360 owners), and it appears to be worth the effort.

Wow, I had no idea it would have this level of impact. But that's great news for Sony. I expect some of the new exclusives like Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and GT5 to get even more units sold.

Since this article was posted, the ranks have changed. The PS3 version has dropped to #222 and the 360 version has moved up to #539. What I find interesting is that the collector's editions of both are almost even with the regular editions. #255 and #585 respectively. Even more interesting is that Ghostbusters is more anticipated on the Xbox side than Batman is at #439.

The main reason why I am getting this game is because the voice of one of my favorite cartoon series is coming back to do Batman so it has to be hot.

Kevin Conroy is great as Batman, but he can't hold a candle to Mark Hamills' Joker.

When I saw the gameplay of this my jaw seriously dropped to my keyboard. I wasn't expecting the game to be that interactive. For some reason I made a pre-judgement that it won't be good at all. But oh boy that bit of gameplay shown truly told me to wake the f**k up. As for the Joker being playable on the PS3 version………awesome….plain awesome.

Oh and about the picture. WHAT THE FUCK IS BRUCE WAYNE ON?!?!?! LOOK AT THE F*ING ARM HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!! FOR GOD'S SAKE THAT'S WORST THAT CHRIS REDFIELD FROM RE5!!!!!

I guess commenting on a gaming site is easier than informing oneself about the game you're commenting on.

Exclusive DLC is really shit.

I feel sorry for all the xbox people who were looking forward to it.

Not all people who buy that console are dickheads, although explaining that to some of the really really super smart people here would be a bit difficult.

I dont like that Fallout 3 or GTA IV has exclusive DLC.

I think stinks.

Agreed, Games should sell on there own merits and by peoples relative preference of system. Not just because one will be supported more then the other.

Even though DLC for consoles is fairly new, exclusive DLC needs to go the way of the dinosaurs.

I will just say that money talks, and it's about time PS3 got something to shove crap into the other consoles face. Not to say that DLC isn't bad, but come the hell on, just look how much exclusive crap Fallout 3 has for the 360. Needless to say I feel a bit jipped with my PS3 purchase of that same game. Oh well though.

I agree. Honestly I could care less about this game, it does look good but I don't have an interest in comic books. As much as I hated M$ getting exclusive DLC for Fallout 3, I hate it just as much as Sony getting it as well.

Where does it say in the post anything about exclusive DLC? The exclusives could be available in the disc.

it's still very much the same..Whatever it ends up being, it's still exclusive and I don't like it.

I agree with RoyBrown on this one. I really think exclusive DLC sucks. If a game is multi-platform then it should have the same content available on platforms. I know I didn't like when when Microsoft got exclusive DLC for Fallout 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Tomb Raider. I guess this is one possible perk of having a former Sony employee running the show at Atari.

Exclusive DLC fails, give me Fallout 3's DLC instead.

I was going to disagree with the exclusive dlc comments, but I think maybe you're right. The PS3 shouldn't have exclusive dlc, it should have exclusive content. Why do I have to download anything? Devs should have stuck that exclusive content on the larger disc!

Still debating with this game, i think i'll be waiting see what it's like. My friend just pre-ordered it not to long ago i told him about the joker and he said that will be awesome. I'm still looking into Ghostbusters 🙂

If us PS3 owners get Joker…what does the 360 or PC versions get??? The Penguin? The Riddler? Croc? Scarecrow? None of those guys compare!!! Btw I played the demo at my store…pretty badass! Could be the first Batman game to truly be good!

I dont think so. PS3 games and consoles have always been selling better on amazon. I think its because that Xbox owners are 12 year olds. They are bought by moms that dont know how to shop around online. PS3 owners are Mid 20s. They buy their own consoles. They have their own credit cards to shop in amazon and compare prices.

I think walmart, will have more sales in xbox version.
