The infuriating process continues: someone says something to ignite more controversy and speculation, and within a few days, we find evidence that puts a major crimp in any optimistic theory.
As most fans know, Square-Enix has worked on and produced several installments in what they call the "Final Fantasy VII Compilation" series, and it has included titles like Dirge of Cerberus for the PS2, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PSP, and the film, "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children." Hence, one would assume that if a next-gen remake of FFVII was indeed in the works, it would fall under that "Compilation" umbrella. Unfortunately, as European gaming site PS3Life.nl reports, Square-Enix says the Blu-Ray release of "Advent Children" marks the end of any new entries "for now." At a special screening last weekend for the movie – which released in BD format on April 16 in Japan – producer Shinji Hashimoto said it was the last Compilation installment…at least for the time being. He wouldn't rule out anything in the future, but just don't expect anything any time soon. Returning to what Yoshinori Kitase said, about how a FFVII remake would certainly require "a lot of thought and work," it seems that such a project would take quite a while…and they likely haven't started it yet. And let's face it: they may never.
And so, another minor blip in the ongoing saga has once again resulted in a flatline; a long, drawn-out, "beeeeep," if you will. Perhaps it's just time to pull the plug, although we've said that before…
Thank you, if anything they should re-do FFVI instead.
Anyway just release XIII and get going with XIV
I second that, VI was the first that I played and finished, good memories with that one.
Locke will always remain one of the coolest hero's of the FF franchise.
tied with Cecil.
If they were smart they would make a remake of FFVII multiplatform as well as releasing the originals on the western PSNs.
But I suppose this is Square-Enix we are talking about…
someone came into Gamestop the a few days ago and asked me when the "new" ff7 was coming out. I had to crush his dreams.
poor fellow.
"for now"=Remake for PS4!!!! no? Darnit.
JP store got the FFVII up on release day of the BD over there
I'm sort of glad actually…all great stories…must come to an end. And Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children was a pretty awesome end IMO. I liked it…even if I have never played FFVII before…(god was I such a moronic 7 year old kid during my PSX days). But so far I've watched Advent Children, played Crisis Core…and haven't gotten to FFVII or Dirge of Cerberus. Once I get my PSP back and get FFVII from the Japan PSN store…oh boy will that be fun!
Play VII, pass on Dirge.
Anyone know where I can get a look at the Versus gameplay footage?
There is no game play footage per say, at least not of the battles and what not. If you seen that scene where Noctis and the Stella are just talking, it also had a big Amano painting. That was the in game engine and models.
Thanks homeslice.
Square hates money.
And I hate Square.
I disagree – they are milking the series for everything they can get. (Figurines, movies, spin-offs, prequels, etc)
A remake is coming, question is when and whether it will be this generation. My guess is probably next-gen.
I was playing the original again a few days ago and must say a remake cannot be identical. They will have to change up some dialog to meet today's standards. A graphical update of the original alone will not do it justice. It needs more than that.
I would be fine with this, but SE cant end there, because of the secret ending of FFVII:DoC, we now need something after that. if they end it after that i'll be happy.
I'm a huge fan of FFVII, but a remake?
You got to remember a remake could turn out badly, would you really want a classic ruined?
Agreed. I want the remake, but we need 2.
A graphical update only released on PSN. Then a full remake (hollywood style) done for retail release.
A remake of FF7 could happen, cause a remake brings nothing new to the Compilation.
But if someone hoped for something like FF7-2 than i would worry.
Latly SE sucked so much, they fucked up with
there fans, the fans that suported this A$$holes.
oh shut up, FFVII: Crisis Core was brilliant, and Dissidia looks great , Lost Odyssey was good to, also along with the FFXIII Trilogy which looks amazing, so stop slaging off SE because its a cool thing for 'modern ignorant gamers' to do
I've said it before and I'll say it again now — Squeenix WILL make a FF VII remake. Bet on it. It's just likely to take a little longer than we'd like. My guess is we're still at least two-three years away.
You know if you do a play on numbers for FF XIV, it could turn out to be FF VII-2, Cuase 14 divide by 2 is 7!
ummm, good job little buddy.
…………….
FFXIII is freakin awesome. When it releases here in the states, we'll all forget about VII!!
Advent Children: Complete is sooooo much better than the DVD release! Scenes have been added, and details enhanced! THE BEST CGI movie I've ever seen! Truely 1080p!
Advent Children is probably one of the worst 3d movies I've seen. I was really dissapointed in the sheer silliness of the whole ordeal. The main character villians I felt should have been in a drag parade and cloud was a girly mess.
I really enjoyed ff7, but I'm beginning to think that my love of it was just from that nostalgic gaming time way back when. It's still a great game but I'm starting to feel many of us are pushing for a remake based on the nostalgia factor.
