Ah, remember the good ol' days of the Jaguar? …okay, so the days for Atari's ill-fated console weren't all "good," but who can forget playing Alien vs. Predator at about 2 a.m. with all the lights off?

Since that time, we've had several new iterations in the long-running series, and the next is scheduled to arrive some time next year. It's Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator , and European gaming site Gamefront has discovered some new details. First of all, you will have the option to fight as either Alien, Predator or human Marine (something we've done before). Secondly and not surprisingly, each of these classes will have "specific skills and types of attack," and thirdly, the story apparently takes place 30 years after the movie "Aliens." The Aliens can be "played anywhere" and of course, they've got that deadly acid, while the Predator has his repertoire of futuristic and brutal weapons, including the infrared gun on his shoulder and the blades on his hands. The Marine gets a Pulse Rifle and grenades (to start), and must battle both foreign lifeforms in the game, so it might prove to be the most challenging class. We're certainly hoping for a decent balance, though. This is one game that has immense potential based on the premise and concept alone, and provided Rebellion brings us a solid gameplay mechanic and an appropriately freaky atmosphere, we should get a worthy action title.

Aliens vs. Predator is set to release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010 and we'll have more information for you as it becomes available.

If it's anything like the PC games then I'll definitely be picking this up.

I got AvP with my Jaguar and loved it to death. It was worth owning the system for that. Of course now we have the AvP curse from the films so I hope that won't affect this.

AvP on the Jaguar was quite the interesting title. It might seem kinda lame looking back to some people, but at the time, it was a pretty creepy/scary game (if you played in the dark like in the semi-amusing ad for it). It's cool to see the same developer is still doing it too. Can we just get an IRON SOLDIER 4 from Eclipse? 😉

A next gen Iron Soldier could be epic, I never got to play the one on PS1 but I had 1 and 2 on Jag

I have never really heard of the AVP for the Jaguar, but I have much love for AVP2 on pc and its expansion. That game is one of the best FPS I have ever played. And today there is still no FPS that offers a similar experiance to playing as the alien.

Agreed. AvP2 was awesome. AvP1 was even epic. If they don't screw this up, it's a must buy for me. On PC though, unless there is keyboard/mouse functionality for the PS3 version, which I doubt there will be…

Also on a side note, does anyone know if Rebellion took up the effects of Star Wars Battlefront 3? I heard after FreeRadical had it, LucasArts pulled the project from them and gave it to Rebellion, right? I don't know, I just want my Star Wars Battlefront 3, best star war games i've played, other than rogue squadron on n64 and one other one, not sure the name atm, lol

As far as I know, Rebellion still has it. And some footage and character images have been leaked. Go here for the images:

Also mention of a possible Dark Obi-Wan storyline. Could be interesting.

And Tie-Fighter still rates as my highest Star Wars game. 🙂

I didn't mind the Aliens Vs Predator films but you cant beat the original Alien and Aliens The Directors Cut. 3 and 4 were a bit hit and miss. Again Predator 1 brilliant, Predator 2 was not as good but it kept the hint at Aliens Vs Predator as one of the skulls in the background was of an Alien so we knew it was coming. 🙂
