Red Faction: Guerilla Demo Blasts Onto PSN, XBL Today

June is shaping up to be one hell of a month, and near the top of our most-anticipated list is Red Faction: Guerilla . The good news is you won't have to wait until the week before its release to get a taste!

Today, THQ and Volition have announced that the single-player demo for Guerilla is now available for free download on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace. Those of you who played the first title back in 2001 on the PS2 will remember the introduction of that innovative GeoMod technology. Well, it's back in next-gen form with the GeoMod 2.0 Destruction Engine, and you'll be able to test it out today if you simply jump online. Players will step into the shoes of freedom fighter Alec Mason, who's involved in a war with the oppressive Earth Defense Force for ultimate control of the red planet. Said Kevin Kraff, vice president of worldwide marketing for THQ:

"The press and consumer buzz for Red Faction: Guerrilla continues to build, as gamers prepare for a new standard in open-world, destruction-based game-play. The single-player demo will give consumers an exciting taste of what the full game will offer on June 2nd."

Red Faction: Guerilla does away with the first-person shooter format from previous installments and gives us a standard third-person action mechanic, but they also bring us a more freedom-oriented sandbox style. From what we've seen of the game so far, we can't help but be excited; if you haven't laid eyes on some gameplay videos, make sure to check out a few of the trailers we have in the PS3 Videos section.

Recently saw a trailer. I had no idea that this is what this game was. In any case… It has peaked my interest.

I heard that the game has maxed out the xbox 360 to its fullest capability. How much of the playstation 3's capabilities does the game use?

well if it maxed out the 360 then I'm guessing hmmm…

0.25% of the PS3s processing power

Why would you say 12.5%? The 360 does have 3 cores that run the same speed as that of the PS3's seven cores…

P.S. not praising XBOX, just putting out facts. there are other factors to consider than what I said.

12.5%? Are you sure?

Good work on the info there and welcome back B Dukat. I watched the trailer last night and was impressed. Not a big fan of THQ though, so it will be nice to test this one out.

Finally I'll find out if the environment is destructable as the first game, or if they just added destructable objects to an indistructable environment like the second game.

Hell if they keep the rail gun I'll probably be happy.

According to THQ, EVERYTHING is destructable.

they lied then?, in this demo the enviroment is not destructive, only the structures are fully destructable, maybe in full game.

I really liked Red Faction on the PS2, but I'm kinda skeptical about Guerilla. The demo should give me a good perspective though. I'm really hoping that it will be good…

I played the demo by signing up to MYTHQ and I found the small bit of gameplay they give very open ended and addictive.

Played the demo and it was just O.K.

Some things I liked and some I didn't. Red Faction Guerilla reminds me of Fracture with destruction.

Maybe it will draw the younger crowd that didn't play the original greatness of Red Faction on the PS2.

I thought the demo was just OK, too. I LOVE the first two games on the PS2 but this is a disappointment for me. After years of waiting for Red Faction to return, all I get is a third-person GTA-in-space with dimmed-down GeoMod technology. Red Faction was once, in my opinion, the best first-person series out there. Good job on f'ing up another property, THQ!

No love for TPS. Everything has to be FPS these days…Kind of like how everything in Hollywood has to be sex and gore. Whatever…

The demo was ok but I prefered the FPS view point of RF 1 and 2. Shame there isn't a camera option.
