Sony Trademarks Starhawk

Starhawk? Yeah, seems like an awkward name to trademark, but considering that Dylan Jobe recently formed a studio of his own (Lightbox) and announced that he's working on a sci-fi space shooter, this is possibly it. I, personally, can think of a better name…it starts with "Colony" and ends with "Wars", oh yeah, you know it. Do the right thing Sony, twist Jobe's arm (if he is the one behind the title) into renaming it to Colony Wars.

In any case, the trademark was made only five days ago on April 9th, so whatever this game is, it's probably still really early in development. Or, perhaps the folks at Sony just settled on a name now. In any case, we know absolutely nothing about this game, besides the logical assumption that this is the next step in the Warhawk franchise.

Hopefully the game is further in development than we think and that Sony shows it off this coming E3. Stay posted, folks.

OK, a Space shooter? Excellent, I am so there. Now, if only the gaming gods would smile upon PS3 and deliver a PS3 re-envisioning of the absolute, bar none, best 3D Space shooter/trader ever – Elite.

Considering that the original game ran fully 3D wireframe graphics with hidden line removal, running with a real time 3D radar screen synced with the game play all on a 2MHz 8-bit computer with 32KB of RAM most of which was devoted to the screen leaving about 14KB for the actual game….a PS3 version of Elite ought to be unbeatable.

The next best since then was Privateer II from Sierra. Haven't seen a decent space shooter since then.

Which would be why they cost less.

I'll take a look if it looks like Warhawk but has a story and single player and the multiplayer elements a merely an add-on.

meh, see how this progresses.
I liked warhawk except for the fact that the server is full of wankers. Haven't played for a while but last time a guy on my team just spent his time taking out his own team mates. the last straw was when i jumped onto the back of a jeep and he drove it off a cliff with both of us in it. yeah, had enough after that.

Ya, I can never hear what anyone is saying on warhawk, it just sounds like static and some muffled words….why is that? It's annoying.

I love warhawk, the gameplay is deep and the vehicles and ground troops are very balanced, as well as the weapons. Although there is a lot of wierd people in that game, I went into a server where 6 guys were having jeep races around the desert map, they kept telling me to get in a jeep and wait at the red flag. I try to stick with the ranked servers.

I'd love to see some sort of sequel. Would it be too much to ask for a campaign?

Warhawk was an excellent game that gave me some of my most memorable gaming moments, but putting it in space seems like it would cancel out the ground game entirely. I mean my favorit part of the game was doing stuff like packing a jeep and getting chased by jets or trying to snipe people from across the map using the tank. It would be hard to put that in space.

Starhawk: A kid-friendly platformer starring everybody's favorite super hero Starhawk! Starhawk is the last surviving member of his species of sentient birds. He came to this planet in order to start his life anew, but upon seeing the beauty our world has to offer he has vowed to defend it and everything on it.

You heard it here first.

Um….that sounds awfully like the tale of a Lombax…perhaps….a bit….vaguely speaking….in an ambiguous way…slightly at any rate….maybe?

hmmm i agree with BTNWarrior, the jeeps and everything were really good and it could just become another star wars battlefront 2 haha. Also, i don't mind it not having a campaign, they've bought patches out for extra things, and like games like socom aren't cheap, just cause they are online only.

They should do what the developers for COD did: keep their original title. They cant throw away a good trademark name- "Warhawk.

Don't know what Starhawk is, but an Elite or Privateer kinda game would be awesome.

@Arnold,

I mentioned the name Colony Wars as a title in the original article on Jobe. Great minds and all!

I loved Colony Wars and its sequels. Actually, I pretty much dug any game made by Psygnosis. Seeing as how Sony has kept Wipeout alive, maybe Sony should revisit more of Psygnosis'/Studio Liverpool's titles: Krzay Ivan, G Police, Colony Wars, ODT, Rollcage, Destruction Derby, etc…

Give us something like Elite and there will be a lot of happy gamers out there.

Why is it no one has made an updated Elite yet anyway?

The original game authors, Ian Bell and David Braben had a major falling out way back. Frontier : Elite II was the result of Braben continuing to work on Elite. There was even a sequel to that (both PC games), both released in the 90's.

Elite 4 (the sequel to Frontier was effectively Elite 3) is supposedly going to release multi-platform on consoles. Here's a link

Starhawk= Warhawk + a Deathstar (including a trench-flying level!) It might be cool, you could see the Deathstar in the sky on other levels. Or maybe adding small, handheld, mini-NUKES…kinda like "Starship Troopers"! (Ewok-grenades?)

I would be all over a new Colony Wars game, that was one of my favs from the PS1 era. Today's graphics and tight controls would make it a blast to play, hopefully they couple that with a killer story and characters you'd give your virtual life to protect. Hell yeah!

lol, Earth is going down, long live the Resistance!
